Buyer beware - it's nothing close to the original
I discovered this powder by fluke during my trip to Ulta yesterday. Was actually going in to try and snag one of the last original formula powders I could before 2.0 came out. Unfortunately, I was too little, too late. Since this was already on the shelves, though, I figured I'd give it a try. ...

Comments about NC40
I've been using this powder, shade NC43, for about 20 years. I have absolutely loved the coverage and how it made my skin look. I have very dark circles and this powder covered them really well. It's really the only makeup I've ever worn, lol. And now this new formula has devastated me. I don't understand why the same colors weren't recreated with the new formula. What was the reason 😭? NC40 is not the same as NC43 at all. I literally look ridiculous when I put it on. Out of desperation I ordered NC44 from ulta via doordash to try and mix the colors so that I could go to work and not look like a clown. It helped, but it's definitely not the same. I'm actually devastated that I have to try and find a new makeup brand. I'll never understand why you all did this.
New Formula Failure
As with many others, I've been using this foundation for over a decade. When I re-ordered about a month ago, I was hoping that just the shades/numbers had changed. Nope. It all changed. First off, the shade that MAC recommended for me was off in a bad way. But mostly, the consistency of the foundation is different, and the coverage is not the same. For full coverage, it takes a lot more and it also seems like there's just less product overall. The powder seems more dry and powdery. I'm not any kind of makeup expert, so it's hard for me to explain, which is why I don't normally write reviews for makeup. However, I felt obligated to write a review because I loved this foundation, and used it for over a decade. Fortunately, I saved many of my old mostly used MAC compacts (with the old formula), so I'm going to be living off those until I can find a new foundation. Bad move, MAC. You're losing a lot of loyal customers.
If it ain't broke…
WHY did they decide to change the formula when there was nothing wrong with the original? I've tried two different shades because my original was NC40 and I've been unable to find anything that matches close to that not even the current NC40. When applying this foundation, it's like weird and chalky. It also settled into my skin weird, exposing every single pore and blemish on my face. I'm really sad that I'll have to find a new powder foundation. The original was so much better. MAC really messed up with this one.
New studio fix powder and foundation is a FAIL

Not happy with the new formulation . Looking outside of MAC for a dupe of the OG .

I love this new formulation of the powder. I have oily skin and wear makeup every day- and this powder has the most lovely blurring and softening effect while still delivering coverage and smoothing my pores. It manages my oil well but does not dry my skin out, and doesn't cling to dry patches. I will soon be purchasing it for a third time since the reformulation- that's how much I love and use it!
