What is the difference between cologne and perfume for men?
The words cologne and perfume are often used interchangeably in casual conversation, but they technically refer to different fragrance concentrations. Eau de cologne (EDC) has the lightest concentration, usually 2 to 4 percent fragrance oil, and tends to be fresher and more casual. Eau de toilette (EDT), at 5 to 15 percent, is the most common format for men's fragrance and offers a balance of freshness and staying power. Eau de parfum (EDP) is more concentrated, at 15 to 20 percent, and lasts longer on skin. All three formats are available in the Men's Fragrance collection at Ulta.
What men's cologne scents are best for everyday wear?
For everyday wear, fresh and clean scents tend to be the most versatile. Fresh fragrances often feature notes like citrus, green tea, aquatic accords, and light woods. They are generally appropriate for work and social settings and work well across seasons.
What men's fragrances are best for formal occasions or evenings?
Warm and spicy fragrances and woody and earthy scents are strong choices for evenings and formal settings. These tend to feature base notes like amber, oud, sandalwood, vetiver, and leather that project well and create a stronger presence.
How long does men's cologne last?
Longevity depends on the concentration. Eau de cologne typically lasts two to four hours. Eau de toilette usually lasts four to six hours. Eau de parfum can last six to eight hours or longer. Applying to moisturized skin and focusing on pulse points, such as the neck, wrists, and chest, helps extend wear time. Reapplying a lighter formula midday is common for all-day coverage.
