[I received this product in exchange for my honest review] Dior Sauvage Extrait completely caught me off guard. This doesn't s.ell like a typical designer fragrance - instead, it feels like something you'd expect from a luxury niche house such as Amouage or other Middle Eastern inspired fragrance br...ands. The composition is dominated by smoky incense, dark oud woods, earthy vetiver, and rich cedar creating an incredibly bold scent with commanding projection, impressive longevity, and undeniable presence. A subtle, sparkling citrus opening provides a brief moment of freshness before fading almost instantly, like embers disappearing from a flame. This is unmistakably a fall and winter fragrance, best reserved for evenings, formal occasions, or moments when you genuinely want to stand out. It is not designed to be an everyday signature scent - it's a statement piece that demands attention. What surprised me most is how different it feels from the rest of the Sauvage lineup. While previous Sauvage releases lean towards mass appeal and easy daily wear, Extrait ventures into much more daring territory. If you found Sauvage Elixer too intense, you'll likely find Extrait overwhelming. It's significantly more potent, more complex, and much less versatile. This isn't a fragrance that aims to please everyone - it confidently goes in its own direction. The scent profile is distinctively masculine, with virtually no sweetness or freshness after the brief opening fades. Smoky incense, cedar, oud, and vetiver remain at the forefront throughout the wear. It feels vest suited for someone with confidence and a bold personality, because this fragrance naturally commands attention. Wearing it requires restraint and the right occasion. Performance is exceptional. Just a few sprays easily last 10+ hours with strong projection for much of the wear. Because of its intensity, I wouldn't recommend it for the office, warm weather, or close-quarter environments. In those situations, the Extrait will easily become overpowering.Another Sauvage would be better suited for those situations. Overall, Dior has created a masterfully blended, incredibly high-quality fragrance. While it's artistry is undeniable, it's limited versatility means it won't be for everyone. Those with smaller fragrance collections or those seeking daily wear scent may find it difficult to justify. However, collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate bold, niche-inspired compositions will likely admire what Dior and Francis Kurkdjian has accomplished here. If you're looking for a fragrance that quietly blends into the background, this isn't it. Dior Sauvage Extrait announces your arrival before you even enter the room. It's loud, bold, luxurious, and unapologetically daring. Wear it thoughtfully - and wear it confidentially.
