The Not Your Mother's Hard Hold gel was my absolute holy grail product for my fine, wavy hair. I ordered this Flash Freeze gel thinking it was the same product -- it is NOT, and I'm very upset Not Your Mother's has discontinued their Hard Hold gel in favor of this inferior product. I gave it a good try for several months, and while it does hold my waves, it comes at a cost of dandruff-looking flakes and scalp irritation that I'm not willing to pay. That "same great formula" note in the product photos is a COMPLETE LIE. I don't mind a packaging or a name change, but the formula is absolutely not the same. Why in the world is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate an ingredient in a product meant to be left on the hair for an extended period of time? (It's not listed on this page, so perhaps they've reformulated this product again, but it is definitely listed on the bottle I received several months ago.) Citronellol, Limonene, and Linalool are also common irritants that this product has added, and my hair and scalp don't agree with them. The Hard Hold gel worked flawlessly without all of these irritants. so I don't see the point of them being in here. Why change what isn't broken???? I used to trust Not Your Mother's as a brand, but not anymore. If anyone in charge of product development at Not Your Mother's happens to read this, please bring back the Hard Hold gel *in its original formulation* and I'll sing your praises forever. Until then, I'm heartbroken that I have to search for a new holy grail gel after the years I already spent searching for the Hard Hold gel.
New formula is not it!

I used the Hard Hold gel on my wavy/curly hair for 3+ years. I loved it for the great cast and I only needed to use a little for great results. Last time I ordered, I received one bottle of the Hard Hold and one bottle of the Flash Freeze because they were reformulating it and the sku had not changed. This week I had multiple bad wash days in a row, with really stringy and frizzy hair. The only thing that changed in my routine was that my Hard Hold bottle ran out and I started on the Flash Freeze bottle. I'm disappointed that I need to find something new. I recommended the previous formulation to all my curly friends!

My new holy grail product! My hair has been so dry and frizzy in the humidity. With this, my curls/waves last for at least a day, and my hair stays so healthy and hydrated until my next wash.

I am quite pleased with this product for my curly hair. I was searching for definition and strong hold, and it truly provided the cast I desired, which I then followed up with oil to break the cast.

This gel is terrible. It does not go onto your hair smoothly, it leaves your hair clumpy even if you comb it in. My hair felt sticky and got tangled within minutes. I had to wash my hair with shampoo twice to get the gel out.
