I have naturally very curly coarse/dry hair. I've tried tons of different products over the years as most of us curly girlies have! I used DevaCurl Light Defining gel for YEARS, took a break, also realized there was wheat in it at the time… etc. Started using this gel a few years ago and it has been my go to ever since. It's super cheap esp in comparison to other curly brands- but don't let that fool you into its quality. Much better than some super expensive brands that I have tried over the years. The only con is there are times that it has made my hair just a little bit too crunchy- but obviously it's trial and error with any product that you use. I would also advise to make sure your hair is soaking wet when you put it in, or else, you will end up with stringy crunchy pieces on the top layer of your hair. (we do not want to bring back the yellow or blue LA Looks brand gel persona people! LOL) But if that does happen on mistake, using some oil to break, the cast definitely helps. The other thing I've noticed is if you diffuse too much with this gel in your hair, it can also create a sticky-ish top layer resulting in almost a hairspray feel. So bottom line, amazing hold for days, don't use too much, and apply on soaking wet hair.

I love this product! It is one of the only gels that actually holds/molds my very thick 4B/4C hair. I live in extreme humid Houston and this product passed the humidity test!! I use this when smoothing by hair out for a bun or to add hold on my curl definition. The only downside is it is drying so I have to add an additional product for moisture.
Terrible on my 3c Hair

I've been on the hunt for a hard hold gel that creates a good cast after my old standby changed their formula. I tried the medium hold not your mother's gel and didn't hate it but didn't feel like it was a strong enough cast to prevent friz on my 3C hair. So I tried this hard hold version and I can truly say this is the worst product I have ever used. It was sticky, and instantly made my hair tangly and dry. It took forever to dry and my hair was brittle and tangled from day one. I literally had to wash it out after a day it was so bad! Might be better for thicker or lower porosity hair, or if you regularly diffuse, but on my air dried hair it was truly the worst. The hunt for reasonably priced gel continues!
