- Step 1: To create the best blank canvas for your color, we recommend that you first lighten your hair with our easy-to-use GDY Lightening Kit. This is because our semi- permanent dye shows up best on level 9 or 10 light blonde hair. You can use DYEposit in Platinum to pre-tone the hair to remove any yellow tones.
- Step 2: Squeeze your color into the GDY Biodegradable Tool Kit. Remember: wear gloves to prevent staining on your hands.
- Step 3: Do a strand test on a piece of hair in the lower back portion of your head before applying the color all over your hair to ensure you love the look!
- Step 4: Divide your hair into 4 equal sections and apply dye directly onto dry hair. Make sure the color is fully saturated throughout each section by applying a dollop of color for every two inch portion of your hair. Gently emulsify/massage into the hair to ensure coverage.
- Step 5: Let the color sit on your hair for at least 30 minutes.
- Step 6: Rinse very well with cool water only. If desired, use Color Kind Wash and Rinse to remove any residual dye. Shampoo and conditioner are not required, however.
- Step 7: Style your freshly dyed locks just the way you like.

Please bring more GDY to Ulta!
I absolutely adore Good Dye Young and it's my go to for colorful hair. I just wish more shades were available along with the hair care products (I love the scrub)! I must say though if you're having issues with longevity then I would recommend looking into hair care tips for direct semi permanent dy...

Inconsistent Application | Out in 1 Wash
Envious of the reviewer who said theirs wouldn't wash out - mine did after 1 wash (Matrix color safe shampoo) T_T after also applying unevenly on my hair (waited required duration - 35 - 40 mins) ✊ the uneven part wasn't too big of a deal - looked cute it if would have stayed put, albeit weird since...

Stuck to everything except my hair :)
This stuff stained my shower, my nails, my hairline, my scalp. Didn't do anything to my hair except leave a tiny bit of pinkish tint to it. I'll be going back to Arctic Fox

i LOVE this dye! the box says to leave in for 30 minutes, but i do it for an hour or longer and it lasts so long! i get lots of compliments. i've even washed my hair about 8 times since i've colored it AND IT'S STILL VIBRANT. i guess it can be annoying if you're not a person that's commited to your decisions! (;
Would buy again

It has a nice smell but when you apply it, it hardens the hair and made me think it was about to fry my hair. But once I washed it, my hair felt nice and soft. You definitely have to have platinum hair for you to get that vibrant color because my hair had a little orange in it and it didn't show thru. But I would buy again.
color bleeds but i find it worth it
i've been using the shade riot for about 3 years now. i looove how bright it is (i bleach my roots every few months) and how it doubles as a hair mask, which helps a lot after a bleach. now this product bleeds after every shower for like a week no matter how long you rinse, but i have dark towels and love the color and conditioning qualities too much to ever give it up. highly recommend if you're committed to colored hair
Did not like result
I was super excited to get Rock Lobster to do red dye on myself. It came out in a color I liked, however it made my hair feel very waxy afterwards, like I just put wax in it. I tried to do red highlights in my light brown hair but it just looked like I tried to dye my whole head and missed a lot of hair. That might be user error, but I don't think I would buy this again.

- Q
Will it cover grey?
- Asked by MizzDomina
- Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand EngageThanks for reaching out. Some semi-perm our colors may add a tint to grey hair, but for the most part semi-permanent dye does not cover grey hair because cuticles tend to be closed. Semi-permanent dye molecules are larger and will sit on the outer portion of the cuticle if not pre-lightened, resulting in a less vibrant color. The farther the dye is pushed into the cuticle, the more vibrancy and longevity it will have. Pre-Lightening natural or virgin hair before a Good Dye Young application allows the cuticle to open so the dye molecules soak into the hair better. We understand that pre-lightening might not be your preference. If that’s the case, we recommend colors like Ex-Girl, Narwhal, PPL Eater, Dream Big, and All In This Together on your virgin grey hair for a less-vibrant final result. Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
How many bottles would I need for my full head?
- Asked by gabby
- Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand EngageHi! If you plan on dyeing your full head, the number of tubes you'll need depends on the length, thickness and texture of your hair. The average hair length will most likely need 2 bottles of dye for their hair. If your hair is longer or thicker than average, you would then adjust accordingly. Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
How would I take care of it on my hair I have very curly hair and I still want to know if I can use it on my hair without causing any bad damage.
- Asked by emmy
- Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand EngageGood Dye Young Semi-Permanent color does not use any harsh chemicals like hydrogen peroxide or ammonia to change your hair color. It acts as a stain, taking the scariness and damage out of dying your hair. Our semi-permanent color is safe for your curls. We do have recommended starting levels for each shade, so you can find a shade that can work over your current level. If you are considering lightening your hair, some lightening products can dry out your hair depending on the hair's health when you start the lightening process. Our Lightening Kit it formulated with conditioning ingredients like Aloe Vera, Coconut Oil, and Soy Protein that help keep hair feeling soft, strong, and nourished. To maintain your vibrant color, re-apply the color every 10-20 washes, and use cool water and heat protection for the most vibrant results. Was this answer helpful to you
