Step 1: To create the best blank canvas for your color, we recommend that you first, lighten your hair with our easy-to-use GDY Lightening Kit. This is because our semi-permanent dye shows up best on level 9 or 10 light blonde hair. You can use DYEposit in Platinum to pre-tone the hair to remove any yellow tones.
Step 2: Squeeze your color into the GDY Biodegradable Tool Kit. Remember: wear gloves to prevent staining on your hands.
Step 3: Do a strand test on a piece of hair in the lower back portion of your head before applying the color all over your hair to ensure you love the look!
Step 4: Divide your hair into 4 equal sections and apply dye directly onto dry hair. Make sure the color is fully saturated throughout each section by applying a dollop of color for every two inch portion of your hair. Gently emulsify/massage into the hair to ensure coverage.
Step 5: Let the color sit on your hair for at least 30 minutes.
Step 6: Rinse very well with cool water only. If desired, use Color Kind Wash and Rinse to remove any residual dye. Shampoo and conditioner are not required, however.
Step 7: Style your freshly dyed locks just the way you like.

Will this show up on virgin dark brown hair?
- Asked by JN
- Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand EngageThanks for reaching out. Our dyes will be most vibrant on pre-lightened hair. If you're looking for a hint of color over a Dark Brown Level-5 natural hair, Dream Big or Blue Ruin will give you a dark blue/blue-green tint. Was this answer helpful to you

hi!! i'm a dancer, and i'm planning on purchasing this dye in "all in this together". i have dark brown hair, and i will not be lightening it so i can get a dark- burgundy look. how long will this last in my hair? along with this, how many washes will it take to get out? do i need certain products? tysmmmm
- Asked by aylaaaa!
- Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand EngageThanks for reaching out. All In This Together will be perfect for a subtle dark burgundy over dark brown level 5 hair. The color can last up to 24 washes. If you are looking to fade the color faster, you can try using an anti-dandruff, deep cleansing, or clarifying shampoo to help remove the color. Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
Will this work on gray hair?
- Asked by Em
- Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand EngageThank you for asking about coverage with gray hair. If you’re looking for a vibrant pop of color, it’s important to know that Gray hair can be stubborn about holding onto pigments in dyes. A few of our more pigmented shades can add a light tint to your hair. Shades like Ex-Girl (pink), Rock Lobster (red) or All In This Together (burgundy) may deposit enough color onto the hair. And as always, it's best to perform a strand test to see how the color will deposit onto your hair. If you’d like to use another shade of ours, we suggest pre-lightening your hair with our Lightening Kit before dyeing your hair. Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
Do I have to lighten my hair before I use this product? I have dark brown hair.
- Asked by Slugger
- Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand EngageWe recommend applying GDY's Semi-Permanent Hair Dye to pre-lightened hair for the best and most vivid results. The lightening process helps to open the hair cuticle, so it is ready to take the pigments used in semi-perms. For Peach Fuzz, we do recommend pre-lightening to a Level 9 or 10 for the truest results. We know pre-lightening isn't for everyone, and we recommend some of our higher pigmented shades like Dream Big (navy), All In This Together (Burgundy), PPL Eater (purple) to help give a tint to your hair. Was this answer helpful to you

I have green hair and want to go teal. WIll this color work?
- Asked by monkmonk
- Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand EngageHi, thanks for reaching out. If your hair is faded green, you can easily go over it with our teal, Narwhal. This shade is highly pigmented, and has a blue-green base. As Narwhal fades, it may look a little more green-teal since your base is green. happy Dyeing! Was this answer helpful to you

Please bring more GDY to Ulta!
I absolutely adore Good Dye Young and it's my go to for colorful hair. I just wish more shades were available along with the hair care products (I love the scrub)! I must say though if you're having issues with longevity then I would recommend looking into hair care tips for direct semi permanent dy...

I was so happy to try pink puff, it was a lot more orange toned than a powder pink, think PEACH-y. My hair is lightened to platinum and for some reason, you could see brassy tones (maybe the orange-y tone brought that out). It faded out super quick within the first wash (used all color-safe products...

Will never not use GDY
Hair Type Wavy Hair
WOW! This is the best semi perm i have ever used. I used All in This Together, and the color was warm and rich magenta. Looked amazing. The texture of this product makes for it so easy to apply, and the scent is heavenly. Cant recommend enough. If you want the most gorgous, vibrant hair use GDY.
Hot pink color
I used this on my daughter, who has naturally dark blondish hair with some natural highlights . Left it on 30 minutes. We did not use bleach beforehand. It looked nice! But disapeared after the first wash. For that reason, we will try a different brand next time
Works well....almost too well
If you bleach your hair before putting on this dye, it works great and has decent staying power if you use the right kind of shampoo and conditioner that's specifically for colored hair. The biggest downside for me was trying to get the color out so I could put a different color in my hair! Even bleaching and using color puller wouldn't get all of it out. I tried dyeing my hair black and the GDY colors still came back, it's impossible to get this dye out of my hair.
Perfect copper for fall
Hair Type Wavy Hair
I've been using this dye for a while now, tried Toxicity for first time, and WOW! it's such a pretty copper. Loving it for the fall with my natural roots.
Bang for your buck!
I've tried different types of hair dye brands here at Ulta that have ranged from $20-50! This one definitely does the job, is super pigmented and longlasting. I can go more than two weeks without refreshing so it lasts me a month! *I have thick hair* Only thing is, it does stain! So be careful when rinsing out! *Also dry your hair after you shower so it doesnt stain clothes, pillows, or etc!*
