Item 2562928
Because everyone's hair is different, do the strand test and see the result of the color before full application. A patch test is also recommended to confirm you're not allergic.
Step 1: Shampoo and dry hair thoroughly. Do NOT use conditioner.
Step 2: Use coconut oil (or petroleum jelly) around hairline and on ears to prevent staining of the skin (optional).
Step 3: Remove bottle cap and inner seal.
Step 4: Wear protective gloves for application and pour desired amount into bowl.
Step 5: Apply color evenly with color brush. Begin at the root of the hair and work it evenly through to the ends. Start nape of the neck and work upwards through the head and be sure to completely saturate the hair shaft.
Step 6: Place a plastic cap over the hair and leave color on for at least 1/2 hour or more. Arctic Fox hair color will NOT damage your hair and has added conditioner, so leaving it on for longer will not hurt a thing.
Step 7: Rinse hair in tepid water thoroughly, until the water runs clear. For the first rinse, do not rinse hair while showering! Best bet is to rinse in the kitchen sink with cold water.
To prevent color bleeding make sure hair is completely dry before sleeping.

Do i need to mix this with any sort of developer? I'm new to the semi-permanent colors and how they work…
- Asked by Kate
- Official Answer By Arctic Fox - Brand EngageThanks for asking! No developer needed! All Arctic Fox colors are semi-permanent direct dyes, so they do not use developer or peroxide to work and should also never be mixed with any as this would result in a patchy and/or faded result. If the hair needs to be lightened in order for the color to turn out vibrantly, this must be done prior to applying the dye. But the dye itself is ready to use straight out of the bottle! 😊Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
Will this color work on gray hair that is silver?
- Asked by JoJo
- Official Answer By Arctic Fox - Brand EngageIt can be hard to say for sure since unbleached and/or gray/silver hair can vary a lot in how well it takes color, but in general, if you stick with darker and more highly pigmented colors you should get at least a tint of color to gray hair! The best colors would be these here: https://arcticfoxhaircolor.com/collections/best-colors-for-unbleached-hair 😊Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
Will it bleed onto pillowcases? If so, will it wash out easily?
- Asked by JoJo
- Official Answer By Arctic Fox - Brand EngageThanks for checking. Some of the more pigmented colors can bleed onto pillowcases. Being a semi-permanent though, it should wash out although it may take a few washings. We would suggest blotting the stain with a stain remover, rubbing alcohol or a solution of dish soap and hydrogen peroxide. For white pillowcases, a bleach soak can be effective. Always wash in cold water after treating and air dry to see if the stain is gone before repeating the process. Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
Do I need to bleach my hair first?
- Asked by Bilebill
- Official Answer By Arctic Fox - Brand EngageThanks for asking! Some of the colors - especially the pastel colors - do require lightening first. You can check our website for the specific color you are interested in. The description should tell you if that particular color would do better on lighter hair. And we always suggest to test on a strand first to see how the color takes since every hair base is different. Was this answer helpful to you

The best I've found so far
I have been using arctic fox for almost a year now. I have used to it maintain my hair in various shades of blue, purple, pink, and turquoise. I switched over from overtone because it was staining my hair, esp the dark blue. Arctic fox does not do this, but it also needs to be refreshed a bit more...

VIRGIN BLONDES - AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE !!!!
This product was an absolute nightmare ! Used this on my VIRGIN, all natural & very healthy dark ash blonde hair, from mid length to ends for a cool ombré effect. The color never washed out and it's been 8 months. I've tried multiple chelating shampoos, dandruff shampoo, the vitamin c treatment, etc...

Love the brand, works great for my Locs
Hair Type Very Curly Hair
So I've used about 4 different bottles of this brand (Frosé, Purple AF, Aquamarine, & Poseidon) and I loved all the colors. Smells good, didn't damage my locs, & stains a bit but washes off. I mixed Aqua & Poseidon and it came out lovely :)

Warning for Blondes!
Hair Type Straight Hair
If you have blonde hair I would NOT recommend this!! My teen daughter used it and it's been very blue for four months. She wants it out and we have tried everything, even going to the salon 2 times and using color stripper. Beware!!!
THE BEST I have ever used.
Hair Type Wavy Hair
I am genuinely shocked at how low the rating for this hair dye is. I have been using this brand for over 10 years, and I have tried many other colorful hair color brands. None of them come close to the lasting power of Arctic Fox. Every color is incredibly vibrant and lasts for MONTHS. And, the dye smells amazing (like grape). Plus, it is vegan, and they donate some of their profits to prevent animal cruelty. I love everything about this brand, and I was so glad to see that Ulta carries them now!

Love love love this color!
Hair Type Straight Hair
My hair stylist got me hooked on this product! I get so many compliments on the Purple AF color in my hair. My hair is black so I do have to bleach out my color in order for the purple to be seen..But it smells amazing and is easy to use!
Permanent on everything but your hair ..
Hair Type Wavy Hair
Arctic Fox? More like Arctic Flop 🤡. I don't know who's hyping this like it's the second coming of hair dye, but let me tell you right now. this is NOT for anyone who wants serious, stay-put color. This is for the girlies who wanna stain their soul and everything they touch except their actual hair 💀. I used Transylvania and baby… why did it smell like COW POOP? 🐄💨 No joke. My bathroom smelled like a haunted petting zoo. And the bleeding?? I swear I could just blink too hard and dye would appear on the ceiling. It stained my tub, my sink, my towels, my skin, my ancestors. You'll need bleach, prayer, and a power washer just to get your bathroom back 😭🧼🚿. The kicker? It's near permanent on every surface except your hair 😭. The color faded faster than my will to live on a Monday. After two washes it looked like I dyed my hair with despair and regret. I've tried other Arctic Fox shades too (because yes I gave it multiple chances, I'm a forgiving queen 🥲) and every single one bled like it was being exorcised. Cute in the bottle, a nightmare in real life. Unless you're doing a one-day cosplay or tryna look like you made out with a squid 🐙, RUN. Switched to Clairol permanent and suddenly my hair is rich, dark, sexy, and actually stays on my head?? Imagine that 😭🫶. Arctic Fox is overhyped AF. If you want temporary cosplay clown, sure 🙃. But if you want real, lasting color? Go be a grown woman and get yourself some permanent dye 🧚♀️✨.
