Item 2562934
Because everyone's hair is different, do the strand test and see the result of the color before full application. A patch test is also recommended to confirm you're not allergic.
Step 1: Shampoo and dry hair thoroughly. Do NOT use conditioner.
Step 2: Use coconut oil (or petroleum jelly) around hairline and on ears to prevent staining of the skin (optional).
Step 3: Remove bottle cap and inner seal.
Step 4: Wear protective gloves for application and pour desired amount into bowl.
Step 5: Apply color evenly with color brush. Begin at the root of the hair and work it evenly through to the ends. Start nape of the neck and work upwards through the head and be sure to completely saturate the hair shaft.
Step 6: Place a plastic cap over the hair and leave color on for at least 1/2 hour or more. Arctic Fox hair color will NOT damage your hair and has added conditioner, so leaving it on for longer will not hurt a thing.
Step 7: Rinse hair in tepid water thoroughly, until the water runs clear. For the first rinse, do not rinse hair while showering! Best bet is to rinse in the kitchen sink with cold water.
To prevent color bleeding make sure hair is completely dry before sleeping.

- Q
Does the dye damage my hair or hair color
- Asked by lexy
- Official Answer By Arctic Fox - Brand EngageHello! All Arctic Fox colors are semi-permanent direct dyes, meaning they do not contain any of the harsh chemicals often found in permanent oxidative dyes such as peroxide, ammonia, or PPD. It's more like conditioner with a high concentration of pigment, so it is very gentle and actually quite moisturizing for the hair when it's in! Because it is so gentle, you can reapply the color as often as you'd like - there's no time limit to wait in between applications 😊Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
how long does the dye usually last?
- Asked by chloe
- Official Answer By Arctic Fox - Brand EngageGreat question! How long the color lasts depends on many factors such as the specific color you are using, the level of the hair underneath, the porosity of your hair and your personal haircare regimen, but on average the color can last between 4-8 weeks for the majority of our customers with pre-lightened hair, and closer to just 2-4 weeks on unbleached hair. We have formulated our color to be one of the longest-lasting semi-permanents available, but for the best results, you will have to take care of your color. Here are some tips that might help with the longevity: Shampoo in cold water (as cold as you can stand it) Use AF sulfate-free, color-safe shampoo and conditioner Use AF dry shampoo in between washes (frequent shampooing will fade the color) Stay away from alcohol-based styling products (they are drying and will fade the color) Avoid high heat styling Know that if you go swimming your hair color may be stripped almost immediately, especially in chlorinated water Add in a bit of color to your shampoo and/or conditioner to keep your color fresher longer! - Q
does the black dye leave a gray after effect once faded?
- Asked by Arctic Guru
- Official Answer By Arctic Fox - Brand EngageHello! Transylvania is a rich, jet-black shade with cool blue undertones. Due to the strong blue tones used to create this shade, it can show up more green-toned on certain bases. It may fade to a greenish grey color as the dye washes out of your hair. If you choose to do a quick color removal, we would suggest a color remover made for semi-permanent dyes. Something like Joico Color Eraser works well, for example 💗 These products do have a lightening effect on the hair, though, so if your hair is damaged it may be more damaging, or if you want to avoid lightening your hair this would not be the best choice. Also, if you do end up going with a color remover, just be sure to confirm that the product is for the type of dye you used and works on the color you wish to remove. Some color removers specify that they do not work on reds, purples, or blues. Transylvania is a blue-black, so you do want something general or geared towards blue/green removal! Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
Do i need to mix this with any sort of developer? I'm new to the semi-permanent colors and how they work…
- Asked by Kate
- Official Answer By Arctic Fox - Brand EngageThanks for asking! No developer needed! All Arctic Fox colors are semi-permanent direct dyes, so they do not use developer or peroxide to work and should also never be mixed with any as this would result in a patchy and/or faded result. If the hair needs to be lightened in order for the color to turn out vibrantly, this must be done prior to applying the dye. But the dye itself is ready to use straight out of the bottle! 😊Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
Will this color work on gray hair that is silver?
- Asked by JoJo
- Official Answer By Arctic Fox - Brand EngageIt can be hard to say for sure since unbleached and/or gray/silver hair can vary a lot in how well it takes color, but in general, if you stick with darker and more highly pigmented colors you should get at least a tint of color to gray hair! The best colors would be these here: https://arcticfoxhaircolor.com/collections/best-colors-for-unbleached-hair 😊Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
Will it bleed onto pillowcases? If so, will it wash out easily?
- Asked by JoJo
- Official Answer By Arctic Fox - Brand EngageThanks for checking. Some of the more pigmented colors can bleed onto pillowcases. Being a semi-permanent though, it should wash out although it may take a few washings. We would suggest blotting the stain with a stain remover, rubbing alcohol or a solution of dish soap and hydrogen peroxide. For white pillowcases, a bleach soak can be effective. Always wash in cold water after treating and air dry to see if the stain is gone before repeating the process. Was this answer helpful to you
- Q
Do I need to bleach my hair first?
- Asked by Bilebill
- Official Answer By Arctic Fox - Brand EngageThanks for asking! Some of the colors - especially the pastel colors - do require lightening first. You can check our website for the specific color you are interested in. The description should tell you if that particular color would do better on lighter hair. And we always suggest to test on a strand first to see how the color takes since every hair base is different. Was this answer helpful to you

The best I've found so far
I have been using arctic fox for almost a year now. I have used to it maintain my hair in various shades of blue, purple, pink, and turquoise. I switched over from overtone because it was staining my hair, esp the dark blue. Arctic fox does not do this, but it also needs to be refreshed a bit more...

VIRGIN BLONDES - AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE !!!!
This product was an absolute nightmare ! Used this on my VIRGIN, all natural & very healthy dark ash blonde hair, from mid length to ends for a cool ombré effect. The color never washed out and it's been 8 months. I've tried multiple chelating shampoos, dandruff shampoo, the vitamin c treatment, etc...

I love the color its so vibrant
Works so well!
I've been using this dye in the shade Wrath for over a year & I love it. It is so easy to use & pigmented enough that I don't have to bleach my already dark hair to get the red wine shade I want. I get compliments all the time on my color & it's so nice to be able to say I do it myself. Plus it saves me tons of money! My hair always feels so conditioned after & it smells better than most other hair dyes I've used. Only con is that it stains the heck out of my white bathtub. Worth it though!
LOVEE💗💗💗💗
Hair Type Wavy Hair
This product is sooooo good the formula is amazing the results are stunning the only downside is it stained my bathroom but that was prob my fault but LOVE LOVE LOVE💗💗💗 the shade I used is "wrath"

Did notning to my hair money wasted!!!!
Do your research
I have to leave a second review to educate people that have left low reviews because they don't understand this product. Semi permanent hair dye will absolutely stain your hair. Do not expect this to wash out conpletely. On the other hand, it does not contain bleach so it will not show up on dark hair and will fade as you wash it. Semi permanent hair dye is basically very strong food coloring and so that is how it behaves on hair. I am shocked that people put things on their hair without doing a basic level of reseach about the product they are using and the outcome they are hoping for!
