Most Helpful Positive Review First at home color- was so nervous. WORKED GREAT!
This was my first at home color. I have been battling with grays but wasn't happy with different stylist coloring jobs or price for not matching my color. I was so nervous to color myself but wanted to give it a shot and so happy I did. I have light brown hair and it's currently balayaged so I was nervous how the color would match up. I picked the 5.0 dark brown because I didn't want any red tint which is what I've been getting at the salon. It worked perfectly and to be honest I was so nervous it would be disastrous. I would recommend this to anyone with dark hair! And two applications!
Most Helpful Critical Review Not for Blondes
Oh dear, this was bad. First off I'll say that this product is probably a good buy for brunettes, unfortunately I'm a blonde. My colorist was unable to reschedule my appointment due to a work schedule change, so I purchased the blonde shade of DP hue (it said blonde, and had a pleasantly yellow color on the box so I was sure it would turn my roots blonde). Nope. I ended up with two inches of dark brown roots against the rest of my light blonde hair. Hideous. Much darker than my own new growth that I was hoping to cover up. I have since tried to "fix" it with other products, and well, let's just say I'm avoiding mirrors these days. I feel it's my duty to warn that next gal out there thinking this would be a good option if she's in a pinch and can't get to her colorist for a while.

I left this on for an hour and fifteen minutes. Covered my grays and my left my hair soft and shiny where applied. A bit pricey but compared to drug store brands I am pleased with the results!
Would never buy again - doesn't work on covering the gray
Sengli from New Jersey
Did not work even after I left it on longer as recommended. Not worth the money.
Luvshopping from Southern California
This is a great easy touch up while salons are still closed. I leave it on for an hour and it lasts for about 4 weeks... Highly recommend!
Amy from DFW
I use the dark brown and it blends amazingly. I do leave it on longer due to stubborn grays. I love the fact there are two applications in the box.
How I Survived Quarantine
StacyOL from Weston, WI
My sister is an Aveda stylist- I showed her ingredients and she said this is the best you can get for a DIY kit. You do have to leave it on at least 45 minutes. This saves me a trip to the salon every 6 weeks- now I can extend my color out to at least 10. Love ALL dpHue products!
Not a fan
CJ from Chicago
Doesn't cover up gray well. Made my hair look brassy.
Jenn from NJ
Never colored my hair on my own but after all salons closed my gray roots were insane. Easy to apply I know I have stubborn gray so i left it on a little longer and it turned out amazing. I was shocked! This will hold me over until the salons open back up.
Nothing great or fancy about it - just the packaging
Scorpi11 from South USA
Bought this to try between salon visits. I liked that it has two applications in the box. This root color made my hair frizzy like the all over color drug store box color. It's been about a week and it's starting to fade even though I left it on for a little over 45 minutes. I got the medium brown and it is a true medium brown. Other reviews said if you have medium brown hair, get dark blonde root color as this brand is too dark. I did not experience that. The color did look yellow/orange on my roots at first which made me panic and check the name of the color on the box and the product twice, but eventually, I could see it turning to medium brown. I was not impressed with this product at all for the price. It's overpriced as you're paying for the packaging also.
It does have low odor.
Doesn't Cover Greys
DolceVitaKitten from San Diego
I applied this product per instructions and left it on for 50 minutes. I am starting to get greys and don't have a lot of them and what I do have are always easy to cover up. Not with this product. Did absolutely NOTHING. Very disappointing. As for the color, my roots are a level 4 and I used the medium brown, didn't see it do anything to my existing root color (no hot roots) so that was good.
Won't buy again
Boots from Lansing MI
I've tried this brand twice and have not had success. My hair is med/dark brown and my roots are quite gray. The first time I left the color on the suggested amount of time and the gray coverage was so-so at best. Decided to give it one more try with the added time for stubborn grays and it still had a very distinct root line and just looked like brownish gray, not brown. Won't buy again.
Holly from Chicago
A little pricier than other brands but it comes with two applications and application brush etc so it's totally worth it! No harsh smell. Easy to apply and doesn't drip like some I've used in the past. Will buy again.
Best home color kit I have ever used!
Keri O from Kansas City
With the lockdown, my greys were out of control! Broke down and ordered this kit not expecting a lot. LOVED my results. I may even use this when Salina are open again for root touch ups between colors.
I love this hair coloring!

This touch up kit sucks.
Trish from Connecticut
I rarely do a negative review, but this root touch up kit is over priced and did NOT cover my greys. I have done my roots with other products, but thought I'd try a better quality product. There's supposed to be two applications in this box, but I have a lot of hair, so I used both. No problem. I left product on my hair for an hour, it should have processed. It did not cover my stubborn part line or temple grey whatsoever. I then purchased a highly pigmented permanent color and toner for half the price and greys are covered.
Not sure I would buy this again
Sally from st joseph mo
I thought I liked this at first. There two applications in the box and you really need to use both at the same time, one is barely enough. The color looked good but within a few days the gray was showing and I do not have much gray. Maybe had I used both applications and left it on longer but not sure.
Great at home root touch up
Spectacles from Frisco, TX
Bought this product to touch up my roots. For me gray hair is not an issue, I was simply trying to cover my darker roots. It helped! Lightened my roots to create a softer root color while I wait to get my highlights.
Good Results and Super Easy
Real NJ Houswife from South Jersey
Bought this to help bridge the gap while salon is closed during COVID. Never used at home root touch up prior. This was amazingly easy to apply and covered all of those pesky grays especially around the hair/bang area. I wasn't sure what color to buy -went with Med Brown. I have naturally dark brown hair with golden blonde highlites. It worked well, though I may try a shade lighter next time. I only was able to buy what was available. Bottom line, great product!
I would definitely use this again

I have extremely hard to cover grey and this is one of the few products that works. I am so glad to have found this!
So far so good
Jess from Memphis
Used the dark brown and has been a life saver! Super easy! Left on for 60 minutes for stubborn grays and got the job done. Will probably start doing this to stretch appointments.
Absolutely love it
Julie from Wisconsin
I used this to only cover the gray hairs. I had about a half inch of growth and it covered it up very nice and it blended in with the other color great. I would definitely recommend that you keep it on longer than 45 minutes if you have very coarse gray hair.
Easy to use
Lisa from Omaha
I used it on my hairline and other areas where greys are popping up. It covers those strands well. It is labeled as a "medium brown" but it's darker. I woukd use it again.
Great when can't get roots done with stylist
Ultajunkie from Seattle, WA
After reading other reviews I decided to purchase the dark blonde to match my roots to a level 7n as recommended by my stylist during the mandatory stay home advisory. The color matched perfectly to my existing base color and was easy to use and follow instructions. I mixed up my color as instructed and started at my roots and then around my face. There was plenty of product left that I was able to do my entire head of roots with a little help from my kids to do the back of my head. The kit has enough product to do two touch ups, so I have enough to get me through another missed appointment next month if needed. Will purchase again if I'm ever in a pinch and can't get in to see my stylist.
The Worst- Do not buy this!
Laura from Ohio
This is the worst hair color product I've ever used and I've tried a lot of them through the years. First, unless you have short hair, one treatment is not enough. They provide two treatments, but you should know this. I have some gray hair mixed in, so I left the product on for 60 minutes. Within a couple days, most of the product washed out, even though I use color-safe, gentle products. And, it's expensive for something that does not work. If you want tried and true, Clairol always works and lasts, plus it's very reasonably priced.
Cruelty Free terrific product
Deb from Chattanooga
Very happy to find an easy to use cruelty free product. All I needed was a touch up and this kit comes with two touch up applications. Perfect. My hair looks very healthy and color matched perfectly. Will buy again
