Find Your Perfect Hair Shade

A few tips to help you color with total confidence:

Skin Allergy Test - Madison Reed always recommends you do a sensitivity test before coloring your hair. At least 48 hours beforehand, mix 1 part Radiant Cream Color (a small squeeze) with 1.5 parts Conditioning Color Activator (a few drops). Use a cotton swab to apply a quarter-sized amount to a small patch of skin behind your ear or inside your elbow. Keep dry. Wait 48 hours. If there is no sign of change to the area, then you're ready to color. Always consult your physician if you have questions or concerns. If you've had a sensitivity to hair color in the past, you may be more likely to have a reaction.

Please see the instructions included in your Radiant Hair Color kit for the best application to achieve your desired results.

Tips and tricks from the experts - Wear a shirt or smock that buttons or zips up the front to make cleanup easy. Begin with dry, unwashed hair. The day after your last shampoo is best for coloring. Make sure hair is free of styling products as they coat hair and may block the color.

Total Color Processing Time = 35 minutes (or 45 minutes for maximum gray coverage)

Precautions: Everyone is different, and all permanent hair color contains ingredients which can cause an allergic reaction, which in rare cases, can be severe. Therefore, you must follow the precautions listed on the included instructions.

Madison Reed Color Products Really Work!

By Jean C

from PRESCOTT, AZ

Comments about Madison Reed Radiant Hair Color Kit:

I have spent years having my hair colored in salons. The time and money spent over 3+ decades prior to finding Madison Reed color is crazy!!! I even spent a little over 6 months trying to decide if I really could get a great hair color at home with MR products. My hair color and the condition of my hair is fabulous, and no more wasted time and money as these products work! I am so thankful for Madison Reed.

Amazing color!

By Adriana D

from MIAMI, FL

Comments about Madison Reed Radiant Hair Color Kit:

Perfect shade to blend my roots with my highlights. I used the Miele gloss and it toned down the yellow/brassiness in my bleached highlights. With the Tuscany Brown dye and the Miele gloss, my hair is now blended into a nice light golden brown with dimension.

  • Q:

I use a 9N blonde by Loreal Excellence crème. Does this product have a similar color? AND is it neutral and not brassy or red?

      A:

      Hello,

If you use a 9N shade currently the I would suggest our Pisa Blonde 9NA. This color is cooler in tone and helps to control brassiness. To ensure this is a great fit for you, you can take our Color Quiz here,

      https://www.madison-reed.com/color-advisor-ulta

We would also recommend doing a strand test to check out your new color before coloring all over. There are strand test instructions in every Radiant Cream Color Kit!

      Hi Ronnie!

Madison Reed offers the shade 9NA - Pisa Blonde in stores, which sounds like it would be a good match in our line! To ensure you can achieve this shade you can take our color quiz here,

      https://www.madison-reed.com/color-advisor-ulta

We would also recommend performing a strand test once you have your chosen shade, this way you can see your result before applying all over. Instructions for a strand test are included in every Madison Reed Kit.

      Hi Michelle!

You can absolutely mix shades! Just a note, Madison Reed Radiant Cream Color is formulated with a 20 volume activator, and like most permanent hair color lines, cannot lift previously colored hair to a lighter shade. Our formula is able to lighten up to two shades on natural, uncolored hair. I would recommend doing a strand test with your mixture to ensure you receive the result you're looking to achieve!

      Happy Coloring!

      I hope this helps!

I am a natural red head but i have dyed my hair for years to make it a darker auburn. I haven't colored my hair since about Feb but i am looking to color it again. Since it has been so long in between color, should whats left in my hair effect the new color? I have always been afraid of at home color because it has never worked well for me

      Hello,

Great Question! Normally if using a permanent color and waiting awhile in between applications it can be hard to match that color after so much time has passed. Luckily we have an amazing tool called our Color Advisor to see what you are able to achieve with our color line. You can find the quiz here,

      https://www.madison-reed.com/color-advisor-ulta

We would also recommend doing a strand test to check out your new color before coloring all over. There are strand test instructions in every Radiant Cream Color Kit!

  • Q:

I have my hair highlighted the old-fashioned way at my salon -- she pulls my hair through a frosting cap. I want to do the same thing at home and use the Madison Reed platinum color. Is the material packaged so that I can use it again at a later date when I repeat the process? (My hair is graying but naturally dingy-looking.)
Asked on 5/21/2018 by TeriGodMother from Houston, TX

    • Brand Expert

      A:

      Hi Teri!

Madison Reed is formulated to be gentle and nourishing while keeping your hair's natural integrity in mind. Our formula is able to lighten up to two shades on natural, uncolored hair.

It sounds like your stylist has been using a product that is stronger than what Madison Reed can achieve to give you a platinum look. If you would like to see how light you are able to go with Madison Reed please take our Color Advisor Quiz, https://www.madison-reed.com/color-advisor-ulta

I would also like to mention that Madison Reed is an all over single-process color, although we offer multidimensional color it is an all over global shade. Sometimes in order to transition to an all over color from highlights, you will need to go to a professional colorist for the best results (unless you are looking to go darker).

If you are looking to divide your kit into two, simply mix half of the color with a half of the developer in a separate bowl, seal and store away the rest of the unmixed color.

      I hope this helps!

      Hi Linda!

You will find the shade names with the associated level (so for you Level 6) on each box at Ulta or online right underneath the Madison Reed title.

If you would like to further explore what tones we offer with each Level 6 shade I would suggest taking our Color Advisor Quiz!

Yes, you can put half of the color and half of the activator in a nonmetallic bowl, mix and apply with a brush. As long as the tops are tightly secured on the remaining, unmixed color tube and activator bottle, they can be saved up to 12 months for later use.

I have long hair, will I need to order 2 boxes?
This is a great product! I have been dying my hair for 40 years and nothing comes close to this product!!
Asked on 5/4/2018 by Nana from Corinth, MS

    1 answer

    • Brand Expert

      A:

      Hi Nana!

Excited to hear you like our products! Every Madison Reed Color Kit comes with about 4OZ of color per box once mixed. If your hair is extra long or thick, one tube of our regular color might not be enough. Since you mentioned you have long hair I would recommend getting two boxes! You'll definitely want to ensure you have enough product for complete saturation.
