Most Helpful Positive Review Loved it I used it for the first time and only left it on for about a minute, and it didn't work. The next day I left it on for 10 and followed with a deep conditioner and noticed a huge difference. All of the brassiness in my hair was gone, my hair was shiny, and i look like a natural dirty blonde. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because the directions say to rinse immediately, but then the product doesn't work. Leave it in depending on how brassy your hair is (mine was very brassy), you just kind of have to find what works for your hair. It never turned my hair purple, so i think that leaving it in for longer really can't hurt it as long as you follow with deep conditioner, because it does dry hair out like many purple shampoos.
Most Helpful Critical Review It smells nice. I loved Drybar's "The Chaser" Shine Cream so I thought I would try this as my first purple shampoo. My hair although lightened seemed pretty healthy so I didn't dilute. After rinsing I realized my hair felt really hard and brittle so I attempted to add some Kenra's Snail Cream (which did nothing to help as far as I can tell) to my hair and my blonde started breaking off, which got worse when I gently tried to comb it through. The next day I let some AG Restore conditioner sit on my head in the shower and added the shine cream afterwards in an amount which previously left my hair looking OVER-conditioned but now my hair looks dry and frizzy as heck and my ends are wrecked. I will be returning this Blonde Ale and I should add it turned my cuticles faintly purple but my hair still has the same pale orange pieces, now they're just dried out and breaking off. Next time I'll just go to my hair stylist to tone my hair. :(

I typically use the L'anza silver shampoo, but my Ulta was out. I needed purple shampoo ASAP so I thought I would try this one. I love the dry shampoo from Dry Bar so I didnt think I would hate this product. It made my hair so dry, dull, and more brassy than when I started. Having just dyed my hair a light ashy blonde, this product will come nowhere near my new hair. I immediately noticed my hair become more toned the second I started using my beloved L'anza shampoo again. Go for that one instead.
SUPER DRYING, my hair felt damaged from one use 1

SUPER DRYING, my hair felt damaged from one use. This product is too expensive to be this terrible for your hair.
Worked very well on my daughter hair 5

Works very good cancelled out the brassyness/gold tones however I'm sure there are shampoos less expensive that work as great just read the ingredients and compare
My new favorite product! 5

Love this stuff! I don't write reviews but this product deserves it. My hair is so soft and healthy looking after just one wash! The price is steep.... I wish someone would make an amazing shampoo at a price people could actually afford.
My Favourite Purple Shampoo 5
AnnieGee from California
Hands down the best purple shampoo I have used...so far. Colour deposit is very rich which I love. No drying out of my hair whatsoever that is typical of a lot of purple shampoos available. My hair is very silky and soft afterwards. The smell is lovely.

I bought this when I freshened up my blonde last time. It is okay, but I almost feel like it leaves a film on my hair. I am also using the conditioner and I definitely feel like my hair is dry, possibly drier than before I used it. I don't mind the smell, but it also doesn't smell like roses.
Horrible smell 2
Tomate87 from Vancouver,BC
Some wrote a review about wet dog smell. I agree, it seemed ok in the shower but once my hair dried I noticed the shampoo's smell was unpleasant and I could smell it all day. I used the conditioner too. My hair were dry like hay and I never had dry or oily hair before. It did dona good job with my hair color.
Favorite purple shampoo 5
Tor from Omaha Ne
It leaves my hair feeling smooth, smelling good, and It keeps the toner in my hair lasting longer without leaving a purple tint to my hair. If anything, if I use it too much, it will just have a slight light pink color to my hair for a couple days before washing it with normal shampoo. But the color is faint and it actually kinda cute lol
NOPE 2

I just wasn't buying it, it's mediocre at best. The knock off Generic Brand from Sally's is $10 and you get the economic sized bottle instead.
LOVE THIS 5
Kaylynnrae97 from Bend, OR
This shampoo is dark purple and works well to fight brass tones in hair. In my hair I noticed a difference after the first use. The smell is pleasant, slightly minty which is nice. Will definitely buy again and would recommend to everyone with blonde hair!
Not just for blondes! 5
Cindydee from Florida
I bought this on the recommendation of the very helpful sales staff for my gray hair. This brightened it up without drying it out (like the other products seem to do). LOVE it!

I can't say enough good things about this shampoo and conditioner!! It truly brightens your hair and makes it look freshly done! I always use a moisturizing shampoo as well, so if you feel like your hair is dry after use, I recommend a moisturizing shampoo to use after. I would give this 10 stars if I could!
Drying and Dangerous 3
Ashley from Bloomington Indiana
I have been using purple shampoos and conditioner's for a while. I love the dry shampoo by this company. However the purple shampoo and conditioner sucks. It dried my already dry hair out. It also put a nasty film over my hair weighing it down. I agree with the other reviewers about the smell. It's not a pleasant one. Another thing is it puts a thick film over the bottom of the shower. Makes it slippery and dangerous. I slipped as a result. Will not buy it again.
Brightens blonde, at a price 2
coco from Atlanta
Pros: this in conjunction with the conditioner does make blonde hair look brighter and more vibrant, especially when it is starting to fade. Since I read reviews about it being drying, I used it with Olaplex. It didn't turn my platinum hair purple, and it definitely isn't strong like Fanola No Yellow, so you don't have to leave it in before rinsing.
Cons: it smells like dog shampoo and makes your hair so greasy. I did not experience the tangles or dryness since I did use it with Olaplex, but I could not get past how greasy it looked and felt after use.
I will keep looking for the perfect blonde shampoo, but the brightening payoff with this one is up there.
smells like wet dog 3
v95 from nunya
am I the only one who thinks this or did I get an old bottle? it literally smells like wet dog, not as bad in the bottle but after I use it my hair smells disgusting. its strong in my hair too, lingers, and other people notice. I've never had this problem with any hair product ever before. it also is just a horrible product. does not tone my hair, dries and tangles it like NOTHING else, way worse than SLS containing shampoos even tho its sulfate free yet somehow at the same time ALSO does not clean or lather hardly at all, leaves my hair super flat and greasy. my hair doesnt even get greasy on it's own. I can go a week without washing it and it's never greasy. only a bad product can make it greasy. the conditioner is just as bad. same issues with the smell, makes the tangles somehow even worse (took me an hour to comb after shower-no joke-and still had lots of tangles and tons of breakage from it, yet it coats and weighs my hair down something fierce. btw I have virgin hair, I can't even begin to imagine what it would do to fragile bleached hair, which is the hair type its aimed at. oh and u need so much but the bottles are very small and it's super expensive. horrible value for absolute trash. never buy this. drybar products have all been pure hype so far for me, haven't loved any of them, but the blonde ale line is by far the worst.
Fixes blond hair/highlights in 1 use! 4
Emily from New York
I leave it in for a few minutes after lathering to help correct the color of my blond highlights, helped after just 1 use. It does dry my hair out more than other shampoos so id recommend using a good moisturizing conditioner &/or treatment after!
Not my favorite 2
Rylee from Pittsburgh
I have used this shampoo numerous times and I don't really feel like it makes that much of a difference. I also feel like it really dried out my hair.
Brightening 5
Chanel from Bakersfield ca
I have bronde(brown/blonde) hair and on first try of using this shampoo I immediately saw a difference. I do know that in order to see some type of lightening I leave on for 10-15 min.and then use a good conditioner and hair mask. I use olaplex no.5 for conditioner and then use Amika (the Kure) intense repair mask to follow. I wash every 4-5 days and use a dry shampoo in between wash days.
the worst shampoo ever 1
maine mom from Portland, Maine
Even when buying this shampoo I hesitated at the price, but had heard such great things about drybar. I have given this shampoo multiple chances, and it's not good. It weighs my hair down and within 24 it has to be washed again. I like to go 48 hours without washing, and with this shampoo that's not happening. Will never buy again.
I See a Difference After Every Wash!!! 5
AbbyW from Fargo, ND
I love using this product 2-3 times a week. I naturally have dirty blonde hair and I always like to get ashy blonde highlights. This shampoo (with the conditioner) really works with getting rid of the natural brassiness in my hair. I would not recommend using daily because it can dry out your hair if used everyday. If you have damaged hair, which you might have if you bleached your hair a few levels. This is because when your hair follicles are damaged they are looking for any moisture or substance to cling on too, hence why the purple may stay in the hair. You can usually tell if your hair is damaged if it takes more than 2 hours to completely dry on its own after it is wet if you don't have coarse hair. Another way to tell is if you hold out your hair in your hand and if it doesn't hang down, it probably means it is damaged. If you pass both tests, then you are probably safe to use the product!
Cruelty-Free Purple Shampoo that Works! 5
Kalie from Goodyear, AZ
I only use Cruelty-Free products, so when I found this large shampoo, I had to try. My hairdresser has noticed a difference and my hair never gets brassy. I use this 2-3 times a week and it lasted me about a YEAR. Worth the money!

I recently went back blonde and needed new purple shampoo. This was a great value!
DONT BUY!! TURNS PLATINUM HAIR PURPLE! 1
Tiff from Ohio
Horrible! DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY! I dyed my hair platinum 2 months ago, so I tried this shampoo and it turned my hair a light pueple. It took 3 additional washes to get it all out and I still have a weird tint to my hair.

I did a lot of research and decided on this from reviews. This product does not dry out my hair.
