Most Helpful Positive Review Anita Baker to ear lobe....
I usually wear my hair in a short pixie cut. I'll be 40 I'm September so my parents asked that I let it grow back since they haven't seen my beautiful hair since 9th grade. Bought the shampoo after watching a YouTube video review. 10 months ago....washing once a week, no heat, and as little styling as possible. My hair is luxurious and growing super rapidly. I swear by this stuff!!
Most Helpful Critical Review The product is not well emulsified
I'm on my journey back to my wavy hair and after some research I decided to get this product in a retailer store in Mexico, giving priority to restore my hair instead of the shape. I saw they the bottle is different and I thought it was because of the export/import regulations and packaging. However, when I pour the shampoo in my hand I saw that the product is not well emulsified, so I get chunks of what it seems to be the black castor oil or something and the rest more transparent thing, could be the soap or other ingredients. I suppose this is not how it is meant to be, since it not only looks grosse but it smells a lot like petrolatum. It's a shame since I had very high expectations on this brand

I have fine hair but A LOT of it and this shampoo is amazing. Not only does it smell great but it works great too. My hair feels and looks very healthy and this doesn't dry my hair out. 10/10 recommended!
I'm 50/50 on this
Wawa from USA
I shedded lots of hair last March and started to use this. I did not notice anything regarding this to be the reason why my hair started to regrow, but it is a CLARIFYING shampoo, meaning that it will diminish buildup (like dry shampoo, oils, products etc) so I am now starting to use this again but not for my every day shampoo. I will use it maybe once a week as a clarifying shampoo.
Smell is not great. Smells like playdoh. But it does clean my scalp. Find something else.
I would NOT buy again
Jayda from Charlotte NC
I used this product for the first time and I had a horrible experience! My hair was so hard to detangle and afterwards it felt so doughy and smelled exactly like play doh. As soon as I washed the shampoo out, my face swelled up so badly and I was burning all over my face. Overall I did not like the product.
No change to restore or growth or anything

And the smell is not the best
RUINED MY HAIR
Amanda from NJ
I'm genuinely so mad right now. I saw this product on TikTok and splurged because of the good ingredients. The last few weeks I've noticed my scalp has been extremely dry and flakey but whatever it's winter. Then my hair started coming out in chunks, every time I shower and for days after. I thought there was something medically wrong with me but nope, got bloodwork done and ruled it out to this shampoo. There are hundreds of reviews from people saying they're experiencing hair loss from this product; how is it still being sold??
This Shampoo Saved My Hair
Boymom from CA
I first purchased a trial size bottle of this shampoo mainly for the fact it had castor oil as an ingredient after reading how it helps with hair growth. I'd been losing clumps of hair after using another shampoo that cost 4x as much and I was feeling super depressed about it. I thought maybe since this shampoo was more for curly, thicker hair it'd be too oily and heavy for my thin, fine hair. After using it for about a week I noticed my baby hairs starting to grow, it's now been about 2 months of use and my hair has completely stopped falling out and I have so much new growth all over. I wash my hair about every 2 days and still use a clarifying shampoo one a week even though this one is for clarifying my fine hair still gets a little heavy with using other styling products. I was surprised at the negative reviews about the scent, I think it smells yummy like cupcakes. I'm so happy I found this shampoo I feel like it's saved my hair and it's really help my self-esteem over my hair loss.
Fine 2c 3a curls here
Hannah from Indiana
I love this shampoo and conditioner so much. The more I use it the more my hair loves it! My curls have never looked better. If people with fine hair say it's too heavy I personally recommend with more natural products to always really take a few minutes cleaning and rinsing the product out to get the best results. I pair it with curl smith weightless air dry cream and hydro style flexi jelly and it's the perfect combo for me. It has a light sweet smell to it so it's not too fragrant for people that might be sensitive to smells. I also color my hair vibrant red and it preserves my color nicely !
Left my hair dry and tangled
Kellz from San Antonio
I've been searching for a different shampoo and conditioner. I've been using the same brand for years. Wanted to try something new. This was recommended to me as I want something to reduce breakage. I am transitioning from relaxers. This product does lather well for my hair. I noticed once I rinsed it my hair was very dry. I used the conditioner as well (30 min) and my hair was still dry. I also use other oils on my hair after washing and wrap my hair at night. Next 2 days it's still dry. My last relaxer was 3 months ago and I have fine hair. It was hard to comb & tangled after the conditioner where usually with a wide tooth comb I can still get through it easily.
So far so good!

I saw a lot of mixed reviews about this so I was hesitant to try it. I've been using Moroccan oil shampoo for a while but felt like my hair had a lot of build up. So, I opted to try this out! Overall I really like it. I used it once. I feel like it cleaned my hair without over drying.
I will buy again

I like the smell and you only have to use a small amount.
Awesome product for damaged curls
Kittycat from Denver, CO
I switched over to the Jamaican Black Castor Oil shampoo/conditioner line from the Hibiscus/coconut Shea Moisture products, I had been looking for something to hydrate and heal my damaged loose curls and the Hibiscus line was great but it just wasn't enough for what I needed. Just finished the first bottle and ordering another - I can say I can definitely tell a difference! Detangling is so much easier, shedding has reduced by half, my hair feels stronger and healthier than ever. The added moisture also helps keep my hair from getting as frizzy. I absolutely love the scent personally, rich natural smell. I was worried with the peppermint oil that it would be minty, there is no peppermint scent at all, which I am pleased with. Great texture, no residue, love this stuff, will continue to buy it.
my absolute favorite!!!

this shampoo cleanses my curly hair whiteout leaving it dry. super nourishing and moisturizing.
Take Some Time to Get Used to It and Then It Works Great!
Jada from Minnesota
I spent quite a bit of time looking for a shampoo and condition that is more natural, doesn't have any bad chemicals for my hair, and will help moisturize it. I have really fine and thin hair and I straighten it almost everyday.
When I first tried this shampoo and conditioner, I noticed I was shedding quite a bit, however, it was also my time of the month and it is healthy to shed hair. After about a week or so, I stopped shedding almost entirely and my hair had like ZERO snarles. I used this shampoo and conditioner with "Its A 10" leave-in product and I'm happy to say my hair feels so much better! It's so soft!
I switched to another shampoo and conditioner just for one wash and my hair was back to shedding and felt super dry and frizzy.
The smell of this product is definitely something to get used to, but it's not terrible. There's no parabans, sulfates, phthalates, or mineral oils so I really can't see why this shampoo and conditioner could be bad for your hair. Hair should be as natural as possible and should also avoid the chemicals I listed. Thats why I'm really happy with this shampoo and conditioner. I will definitely be using it for a while.
Lovely product .. definitely not to be used all the time !
Kaitlyn from Far far away
I love this shampoo, of course it's different for everyone but I don't think you should use this every single time you shower!!! I use this every 2 weeks along with the oil, every other time I shower In between I use a different shampoo & conditioner. I've noticed that helps a lot :) otherwise it smells nice and works wonderfully, it's definitely a shampoo to treat your hair to every once and a while !!

I have healthy, shiny long hair. When I combed my wet hair, my thick-toothed comb didn't glide through. My comb got stuck! Returning!!!
Leaves my hair oily

When I was my hair with this shampoo it feels like and nice in the shower but once I'm out and drying my hair I can fee a greasy residue.
Hair feels soft after washing twice with it
Ugly Jane from NJ
I actually really like this product! Washed my hair twice with it and my hair was still soft. However, the consistency of the product is very watery so it's hard to use only a little in my opinion but that's the only legit con for me
changed to bad

i used to love this shampoo but they changed thr formula. it doesn't have a good lather at all i have to use a lot to actually be able to wash my hair and clean it.
Leaves hair very soft
Lisa97 from Kansas City
I found this online when I was searching for a shampoo that might reduce hair loss caused by medication. It did not do that, but my dermatologist said that no shampoo would. It is a great shampoo, though, with high-quality ingredients and no dangerous ones. My very curly Caucasian hair feels so soft and bouncy that I often do not even use conditioner. After two months of daily use on short hair, I have used less than half of the bottle, so it is economical to use. My only complaint is that the smell is odd, but if I want my hair to smell like fruit, I use a conditioner.
Product is okay
Cdenos from SaLen, OR
I have never used this brand before. I got it because it was on sale. I have it a 3 because of the smell. I normally wash my hair twice but it doesn't feel like it gets the job done. It smells good, and I probably just have too damaged of hair to like this product. But it does smell really good and maybe I just need to give it more time.
already seeing results
jojo from tn
I have wavy/curly hair and I've noticed my current routine isn't really working and my hair hasn't really had the definition of the curls and waves like it used to so I did some research and decided to pick this up along with the conditioner. I am already seeing a difference with this as the only change in my routine as I have noticed a difference in the definition (and how long it has held that definition) in a little over a day. I even got a compliment from a coworker about my hair today after using this. My only complaint about this is that it is extremely thin but other than that I love it and would definitely recommend it to a friend.
Smells so bomb!

First week using it and I can already see a difference. Really brings out my browns in my hair too!

I have fine and wavy shampoo and I like this shampoo a lot. Some people are allergic to CB in shampoos and this one doesn't have it which is great. It also has pretty delicate detergent in it so it's definitely good for everyday use. One thing I would say is that this shampoo has a lot of protein so it's not doing to be good for everyone. I like protein in my hair product but you need to remember to use a conditioner with some emollients in it to close the hair up. Overall I like it a lot:)
Wouldn't purchase again

I've been using this shampoo for 2 months and it made my scalp itch every time. I kept using it thinking maybe I didn't wash my hair correctly but no not only did it make my scalp dry and itch it made me lose a lot of hair. My hair would shed more than usual every time I used it.
My scalp feels soo much better!
Kate from Woodstock, Ga
I have been trying to figure out what ingredients have been causing my scalp to be irritated. Sadly Curlsmith shampoo and conditioner products causes irritation on my scalp and moved back to SheaMoisture. First thing first the price is affordable. Now when applying the shampoo it feels great on my scalp and It feels clean. I get a little bit of slippage so that was pretty nice. And in the end my scalp was no longer producing that annoying dry skin on my dark hair. For smell I actually don't mind the "play-doh" smell. I am a Marine Vet so the whole crayon eating play-doh smell does not bother me one bit.
