It's a serum.
It is advertised as a lightweight evening cream with 0.05% retinaldehyde( 3X more powerful than retinol). However, I would say it is more like a serum and should be used with a moisturizer. Love this
I've been using the Avène Retrinal 0.05 for about a month and I really like it. I have sensitive skin and most retinoids irritate me, but this one hasn't caused burning or peeling. It's creamy, easy to apply, and layers well with moisturizer. Results are subtle but noticeable — my skin looks smoother and more even, and I've had less dullness overall. It's not a dramatic overnight product, but it feels effective without being harsh. Pricey, but worth it if you want a gentle retinoid you can actually stick with.
I couldn't get over the smell
The smell was terrible, unfortunately! Kind of chemical and sour and it lingered. It's only the second retinol-family product I've used, so I'm not sure if this is typical or not, but I couldn't get over it. I love Avene and I'm sure it's effective, but if you are sensitive to smells, too, maybe not for you.

[I received this product in exchange for my honest review] I enjoyed this product and I'll post a deeper review once I've finished my other product and can really focus on this one. I didn't notice any redness or peeling. I think that as far as Retrinal, this is a good starting product. No overwhelming scent. Very happy with this product.
I would buy it again.
After a week of use, I noticed a difference in my skin. I have dry skin, and I feel like it moisturizes enough without being greasy. I'll continue using it.
