Most Helpful Positive Review Great AHA Light Exfoliating Serum
Overall, this is a great product! I've never used any acids in my skincare routine as I'm still very young, but I thought I would give this a try as lactic acid is a "nicer" AHA molecule which isn't as irritating. My skin isn't very sensitive to most products and I had no reaction to this as well. But after using it a couple times I started to get a bit tingly in the areas I put it in, but after putting on face lotion is goes away. Since I have combination skin I use this on my cheeks and The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% on my T-zone. My skin is smoother; however, I will be honest and say that I don't see a terribly obvious difference but that's because I didn't have any scars or hyperpigmentation on my cheeks. I think it's a great light exfoliator to try if you want to get into the use of acids. The main reason I got this was to slowly move up to The Ordinary AHA + BHA Peeling Serum which is pretty strong and this is a great starting point! The HA also really helps because my skin doesn't dry out from it although my cheeks did have dry patches the first week I used this. This is also a great exfoliator to prep the skin for the intake of other products and I also only use this at night as it can make your skin more susceptible to sunlight. Also, when I first started using this I used it every other day to get my face used to the acid and then after a week or two I started to use it daily every night. A little goes a long way and patience is key!
Most Helpful Critical Review Didn't work for me
I love The Ordinary and their products. I've tried the Niacinimide + Zinc serum, moisturizer, AHA BHA peel, Azelaic acid, and Hyaluronic acid serum and have had great results with each and no irritation.
My acne, however, has gotten worse over the past couple months and I wanted to give something new a try, and I've read about people having success with this product. I used it as directed for a month, and it made my breakouts so bad and so much worse. I know the skin purges, but it seemed like there was no end in sight. I normally have cystic hormonal acne along my jawline and chin, and maybe one to three breakouts a week, with maybe one really bad cyst a week. But this product created so many cysts so quickly and it was just too painful and annoying to deal with, especially since they didn't seem to heal very quickly. I swear the one breakout lasted the whole month and only went away once I stopped using the product about a week ago.
I'm sure this product can work for other skin types, but for me, it definitely made the problem worse and I wanted to share that experience. I'm still glad I tried it, but for now I'll be going back to my old routine while I research new products. (And my skin has already cleared away much after being off the product!!!) Maybe I should've started with the 5% solution, but I do not typically have sensitive skin and I've tolerated acid in the past, so I went with the higher concentration.
Good luck if you try this product and I hope it works better for you than it did for me!

LISTEN UP! You need to patch test before putting a new product directly on your face, especially if you have sensitive skin or allergies. Also no matter how you may think a product will work DO NOT ASSUME. Dilute products like these until you have a clear understanding of how your skin will react, AND THEN you can slowly build up the tolerance until you are able to use product directly on face. It will take weeks before you should be using this daily, let alone 2 times a day. My skin can handle TCA peels but even that was me building up a tolerance with weaker products over months. Whenever I use a new direct acid my skin will purge. You should know the difference between a purge and a breakout. Look it up before you decide you aren't seeing immediate results.
With that being said, my skin looked amazing just after 2 weeks. I still haven't built up a daily tolerance, nor will I ever use daily. I purged and it cleared up after 3 days. My skin texture is noticeably better, my skin is softer, and my skin is clearer. I can't imagine how it will look after I finish the bottle. After I finish the bottle I will give my skin a break so I don't build up a tolerance or I will switch to the red AHA BHA mask/chemical peel by the ordinary.
Skin Like Glass 🧖🏻♀️
TCA peel lover from Grand Junction, CO
I was on the fence on what chemical peel I wanted. I was used to getting $300 peels at a surgical office and it did wonders. But now I went from a business owner to a stay at home mom, my budget has changed. My skin was able to tolerate the TCA peel with ease, and that's why I was unsure that the lactic acid peel would be strong enough for my skin. I went with the 10% rather than the 5% and I'd see how my skin handled a bottle before trying the red AHA BHA mask. I started by diluting the serum to be sure my skin could handle it. Thinking it would be a bust, I was happily surprised that after 2 week of diligently using it every other day and building a tolerance… I already see results. Lines are dimming, dark spots/hyperpigmentation lightening, old acne scars and texture smoothing. I am impressed. This is a new staple in my winter serum routine to undo any summer sun damage. Using it seasonally helps my skin to not grow a tolerance.
If you have sensitive skin, use 5% and dilute by mixing with a night cream until you build a tolerance. It's better to dilute a new product like this before putting it on your face directly on your first use!

This is magic, worked wonders for my skin. Had to research a bit, but found the right combination. The lactic acid is great, and I'm committed for life. Less redness, smoother skin, smaller pours, even my eye lids seem less droopy. Suggest researching a regimen first. You don't need all the products.

Clears my hormonal chin breakout (post-hysterectomy)
B from Boise, Idaho
This is a savior when it comes to my acne. As a 36 year old woman, I've never struggled with breakouts until my pregnancy and now after my hysterectomy. I got pustule acne on my chin and I am a picker so then they end up scarring. It's the worst! This stuff is amazing. I put it on my skin straight at night either before or after a good moisturizer. Sometimes I will mix it with cetaphil and apply to my entire face for a fresh look when I wake up. I wake up and my breakouts are mostly gone and the scars have lightened. I really can't say enough good things about The Ordinary 10% Lactic Acid!! Thank you for making beauty products and to some of us - necessities - affordable and effective.
Works well for sensitive skin
Rose from USA
I did a patch test first just to make sure it wouldn't burn my skin and it didn't, I recommend everyone to do this even if you don't have sensitive skin. So when I applied it, it didn't burn- for the most part. One thing I noticed is that where I had areas it stung a LITTLE, after that everything went fine.
Need something different
Brandi from Nevada
Made me break out really bad and my skin is so dry afterwards. I'll go back to the red colored peel it works better for my skin. I do love this brand though. I'm going to try this on my chicken skin on the back of my arms see if it makes a difference but not on my face anymore.
This has become a staple

I was searching for something gentle yet effective for my skin during pregnancy. I stumbled upon this and love it. I use it at night w an oil and moisturizer. I have dry acne prone skin & have noticed a huge difference!! Less breakouts & more even skin tone.
cleared my skin!

this serum is fragrance free which I absolutely need for my sensitive skin. This serum also cleared my skin up within a week and I have been getting complements on how much smoother and brighter my skin is.
Gentler than the red peeling one
Gentle lactic acid from US
I'm sorry I forgot the exact name but this is much gentler than the red peeling solution but so effective. I tried the red for 6 months and sensitive never adjusted and hated it. Started using the nightly after my copper buffet serum and I top it with the natural HA moisturizer and an HA sleep mask and it's sooooo much nicer to skin. Love the results and doesn't irritate my dry, sensitive skin. Reccomended if you also have sensitive skin!!
Trust the product

It does take time for results but it works . It does take some patients . I wash my face , exfoliate then dry my face and use this lactic acid before i go to bed at night and im noticing a huge difference.
Love my Lactic
A-M at 55 from Central IL
This is my favorite product from The Ordinary. Although I wouldn't consider myself as having sensitive facial skin, my face doesn't take well to more potent acids including glycolic, mandelic, etc. Lactic does the trick for me and the included HA seems to have a little buffering effect. This product occasionally my drier cheeks for a short minute, but that reaction goes away quickly. My skin is left very smooth, softer, flake free for sure, and ready for my light moisturizer and CC cream. I appreciate that it's so affordable. I'd been using a similar product from an online indie brand for years, but this is 1/3 the price and just as good, if not better.
MG from Sheridan Wyoming
I bought this for my face but I was too intense. I decided to try it on my heals and feet as they were dry. I rub it on my feet after each shower. It made a HUGE difference. My feet are soft like baby feet now. I will keep buying. If you are younger and have oily skin this would probably work on the face
Yes! It works

At night Ive been using this for about a week now. My skin texture is smoother especially around my chin area where Ive had cystic achne my whole life. My skin tone is brighter. It did not cause redness or peeling because I use a night moisturizer over it. Its so cheap too very well worh it!

Exfoliating and moisturizing
Beth from Edgewater
Win win ! Lovely results . Immediately after and even better after a few months. Perfect for those who don't want to put up with the frustration of using retinol's. I like this because it's gentle exfoliation and promotes moisture. It's perfect for the summer or winter for me. I am 60+ with fine lines and wrinkles. I have combination dry skin in the winter. And combination oily in the summer. It's is non-irritating but I also have years under my belt of using exfoliants more than several times a week. And I use this several times a week. If this bothers your skin if you start using it it is not the products fault. You're just using it too often. You can also lay down moisturizer first put this on top and then lock it in with moisturizer if you have really dry skin.

first and foremost: don't buy if you have sensitive skin. lactic acid is basically a chemical exfolient so if ur skin is prone to irritation, I wouldn't get this. BUT I don't have sensitive skin so i love this product. I had bumps on my forehead and this got rid of them within 3 days! My hyperpigmentation is lightened, the dead skin around my nose is lessening, and my skin just looks more vibrant. WEAR SUNSCREEN WITH THIS!! it says that on the bottle but I know some ppl didn't read it but it's very important. Anyways buy this it's amazing
Best product ever!!!
Brooke from Colorado
If I could give this product 100 stars I would!!! I rave about this to everyone that has similar skin type as me. I had very bad hormonal acne and this helped so much. If you have sensitive skin I recommend the 5% lactic acid to start but other wise I can't say enough great things!
Can't say enough good things about this product
Kate from Kingsport, TN
I use this product every other day. I'm in my mid 20s and have had terrible hormonal acne for about a year. I had tried so many things and this FINALLY cleared my skin. The bumps were completely gone in about 2 weeks. My skin hasn't been this smooth and luminous in years
Happy I found this
Miss Mels from Texas
First time I used this I mixed it with a cream to dilute it. It does tingle, but that doesn't last long. I noticed the next time I used it (without diluting) my skin was so smooth the next morning. I now use this every other night. It has helped clear my acne and evened out my complexion. I use retinol on nights I don't use the lactic acid. My skin has NEVER been so clear, smooth and hydrated in my whole life. This is a staple in my skincare routine. Total game changer for me.
Not if you're prone to irritation
Mags from Vancouver WA
I used this for about a month in the evenings after cleansing before moisturizer and at first it was fine, went on smoothly and felt nice. I didn't get any burning like some people have mentioned, but after a couple weeks noticed I was very enflamed around by nostrils. I'm prone to eczema and rosacea, and since no other skincare steps changed I have to conclude it was this. I stopped using about 1 week ago and the irritation has nearly disappeared. Could be the HA in it
Smoothed out my face!
Val G from Los Angeles, CA
My face was feeling super dry and rough. I started using the Ordinary toner and their lactic acid at night, and my skin looks and feels the best it's ever looked! I highly recommend it!
