Most Helpful Positive Review It's not for everyone, but here's the honest truth
I got this last year for the first time with my fall FFF box. Instant love and here's my 100% brutally honest review! First off, let me say that if you have greasy hair or wait for a week to wash your hair then this product is not for you. I would say it's more for those with flaking issues or people who use a lot of product that creates scalp build up. It's not really a true shampoo and more like a hair treatment to use once or twice a week. So yes, the smell is vinegar, but that's what the product is. It's tolerable for the most part to me. However, if you want to complain about the smell because you hate the smell of vinegar, then don't buy this product. Or any of the apple cider dpHUE products for that matter. It won't lather well either because it's not a soap based shampoo with all that extra junk in it to make it suds. You'll end up using more than you thought you'd have to because you're expecting those suds. Also, don't just use it on your scalp and let it sit there. Move your hands around like you normally would with any other shampoo. Get your nails on your scalp and scrape off that old skin/build up. Even apply on the length of your hair and work around. After rinsing if you feel that your hair isn't as clean as you would like then use a small amount of your normal shampoo and give it a go. Be a directions breaker - it's ok, I won't tell anyone. Also, a tip from me to you. Use a conditioner afterwards regardless of what the directions say. Whether it's a light cream or heavier cream - use something. Just trust me on this one. Don't just use the ACV and let it be done, I can tell you that you won't like the end product if you do. It does tend to dry the hair out for most people. Let's face it, everyone is unique and thus, not everyone has the same hair/scalp combination. If you followed the directions and everything worked out for you then YAY! However, if you tried and feel like you wasted your money, don't. Find a way to make the product work for you.
Most Helpful Critical Review Greasy scalp and weird residue throughout after using.
I have long, thick, wavy, color-treated hair that is prone to frizz if I don't heat style. I also have seborrheic dermatitis, so I really have to watch what goes on my scalp while still ensuring that whatever goes on my hair conditions and detangles while leaving no heavy residue. I gave this product line a shot and bought the rinse, scalp scrub, and dry shampoo. I have not used the scrub yet, but used the rinse in place of shampoo and conditioner. I used it after 2 days without regular shampoo, so my hair was a little dirty and my scalp was starting to get oily. The rinse smelled, and I hate the smell of vinegar. But it was tolerable in the shower as long as I rinsed my face often to clear the smell from my nose. I followed the rinse directions, running it through parted hair along my scalp. I then rubbed it through, left it on for three minutes, and rinsed thoroughly. I let it air dry and was happy to find that the smell mostly dissipated, though I still got whiffs of it it as I moved about the house. It's cool weather right now, but I did wonder if I'd have to worry about the smell coming out with sweat during hot weather. Once my hair was dry, my scalp felt ok, no itch. However, the hair near the root was GREASY as all get out. The midsection of my hair felt super waxy with residue. And, the ends were dry and completely unruly - frizzy with no curl definition whatsoever. I tried to smooth it out with a round brush and dryer on low, but that did nothing to help. I then tried the ACV dry shampoo on the roots and it also did not help. The grease and reside was so bad that it looked like I hadn't washed my hair in over a week! I had now spent an extra 30 minutes trying to wrangle my hair and was late getting to an appointment. So I had to throw up in a clip and leave. Felt super gross all day. Had to rewash later with normal dandruff shampoo, lathering 2x followed up by a conditioning masque on the ends just to get it back to normal. Definitely don't recommend!!

I got this stuff a couple months ago when I started to get serious about the curly girl method and reducing shampoo to about once a week. I have medium thickness, mostly 2B hair with some 2A and 2C, very low porosity and protein sensitive. A bit of an odd combination, but I only use heat tools a few times a year and I haven't colored my hair in well over 2 years so it's actually the healthiest it's been in several years, but it's difficult to find products that won't weigh my hair down while still giving it the intense yet gentle hydration it needs to retain curls. I was excited when I found this product and it seemed like a great rinse to wash away buildup without stripping it like shampoo. The first couple times I used it I left it in my hair for a couple minutes before rinsing, like the directions say, but that left my hair too weighed down. I really wanted it to work though, because its reviews made it seem like it'd be perfect for my hair type, and it was expensive. I experimented with using more, using less, and how long I left it in my hair before rinsing. I found when I tilt it upside down, VERY lightly press on it, and run the tip along my scalp from my hairline to the back of my neck 4 times (going around my head, from near one ear, twice over the top, and then by the other ear) and massage it into my scalp for no more than 1 minute and then rinse it out, followed with Curlsmith air dry cream and curl defining soufflé (or Briogeo be gentle be kind mask, I use that about twice a week and one of those times is on my shampoo day [with a small amount of the Aveeno rose water and chamomile shampoo] and I still follow it with the Curlsmith products) and my hair is super hydrated with bouncy waves and curls and minimal frizz and it's not weighed down or heavy feeling whatsoever! It's such a relief to finally have a solid hair routine after trying soooo many products for soooooo long and never being impressed with the results. This is a game changer!

I got this for half off. I got lazy making my own mix of ACV hair rinse so I just bit the bullet. I wouldn't repurchase for full price though. The formula is good and I like that the vinegar scent doesn't linger, but it's just so expensive. I would probably either wait for it to go on sale again, or go back to making my own mix.
Clean scalp but hair loss
Gabyjflores from California
I apply the ACV rinse first, leave it for a couple minutes and rinse. Then my regular shampoo and conditioner. The only thing for me is that I think it causes me hair loss, don't know how and why. Could me the ingredients.. but overall, to clean the scap it does a pretty good job.
I love this!

I have fine, blonde hair and I've always had to shampoo every day or every other day at least, or my hair would get oily quick. I started using this a few weeks ago, and now my routine is to shampoo/condition, wait a day, then the following day, I use the scalp scrub followed by this, and my hair is so clean and soft! I then can wait another day before I shampoo/condition again, so I'm truly only shampooing my hair 2x per week, with the occasional dry shampoo if absolutely necessary. Great product!
Balances oily itchy scalp
Valerie G from Myrtle Beach
I have an oily scalp that tends to flake and itch if I don't wash on a daily basis. I have been trying to wean myself from sulfate shampoos, as they have damaged my hair. Unfortunately, every sulfate-free shampoo makes my head itch like crazy! Although alternating between shampooing and this hair rinse on alternate days doesn't seem to prevent the itching and flaking for me, what I have found that works is to wash with the sulfate-free shampoo first. Then apply this hair rinse on the scalp and a conditioner on the ends, and let them absorb while I shower. Then I rinse both the hair rinse and conditioner out at the same time. The itching isn't 100% gone, but it does make it much more tolerable so that I am actually able to use a sulfate-free shampoo!

Works good for in between washes for thin oily hair
Britt02 from Washington
I was very skeptical but it actually works. My hair felt clean and lightweight. I did use a small amount of conditioner because I thought it would be too dry to skip that. I will be using this in place of shampoo every other time.
ANTinVA from VA
I wanted to love this line. I got the dry shampoo and this and both don't work for me. maybe its something in my scalp that hates acv but both products make my hair dirtier instead of cleaner as they should. Honestly after trying it if I am gonna get my hair wet I might as well just wash it so had I thought about this I would have realized its pointless
Helped with dandruff

I usually have horrible dandruff and sebum and this honestly really helped!
I really wanted to like this product :-(

I really wanted to like this product. I had high hopes for it, I just went and purchased the 20oz from the start. I used it once, my hair came out super greasy. I went back and read a ton of reviews, saw that I should use less product (about 2tbsp) - once again it came out greasy. The next time I used even less - greasy again. I just don't think this is the product for me, even though I really want it to be :-(
a must for color protection

this product is good if you don't want to actually shampoo every day and your hair feels pretty clean. I usually use the ACV conditioner right after so that it does't get too dry. You don't need to use a ton to get your hair clean.
Need for oily hair!
Sonia from Pennsylvania
Works wonders for oily hair. My scalp gets super oily in less than 24 hours after washing and this great for my in between wash days.
I would buy this again but wouldn't follow the directions..
Dez from Las Vegas
I'm glad I waited until washing my hair with shampoo the following morning to write a review. The first time I used it as a "shampoo substitute I HATED it. My hair felt greasy and had a weird oily film when I blow dried it. I was frustrated that I had to wake up super early the next day before work to wash it again but so glad I did. My hair feels healthier, my blonde is brighter and it feels like the conditioner was better absorbed. Next time I might try using the acv first then shampoo + conditioner.
Has Diazolidinyl Urea AKA releases Formaldehyde
Coco from Florida
I used to like this product but was starting to realize my hair wasn't growing it's thickness, I had lost my hair due to using a shampoo with DMDM hydantoin. I don't think the website showed this ingredient when I purchased it but holding the physical bottle its listed. Extremely disappointed, save your hair ladies!!
Very greasy, left my hair coated and felt terrible!
Lauren from San Francisco, CA
I really wanted to love this product, I've used other ACV products before to remove buildup but this did the complete opposite. My hair feels like I haven't washed it in a week, it's so greasy and coated with product - I have curly thick hair and am very disappointed in the results. I even tried it again today but same results and do not recommend for anyone with similar hair!
my lil splurge ✨
Chanel from Miami
I always buy the biggest bottle !! this removes build up soooo well!! like amazing ! it really helped clear my dandruff ! this doesn't have sulfate but it does create suds so you know it's working, when I use it my hair just feels so light, my curls come back, it's sooo good!! I love that it also has aloe as well!! I think the aloe/ apple cider vinegar combo makes my hair happy ! also for the smell, you really do get over it, tbh I think I love this product so much I started loving the smell lol!!
Did not have high expectations
Yesbut from San Diego
I honestly didn't think this will do anything but make me regret spending 80 bucks (I bought the scalp scrub as well). About a year ago I started having a very itchy scalp. No dandruff, no red spots, bumps or lumps, just annoyingly itchy. Decided that I probably just have a lot of product buildup on my scalp. Searched and found this! Honestly, my hair does not stink, it feels a lot smoother than my usual shampoo and I am pleasantly impressed. Will post once I see the effects it has on my scalp.
Oh the only bad experience I had with this product was trying to purchase this at Ulta and being completely ignored with my questions.
Perfect for oily hair
Hbishop from Kentucky
I have to wash my hair everyday. No hair training has ever worked for me. But this stuff gives me one sometimes 2 extra days! It's so great for super oily people
Trash company and they don't use the ingredients they say.
Heather from New York, NY
Did you ever notice the differentiation in color, yea that product is bad. Caused my scalp to be very oily. Company is very rude as well.
L from New Mexico
Oh my God I'm so in love. I have EXTREMELY hard water, so much I toned my hair and in a week it was pretty much stripped out. I read about hard water and hair and came upon this jewel. I literally only use this, I don't even need conditioner. It leaves my hair soft and shiny and so healthy looking plus brightens my color.
Holy grail when using natural shampoo bars
Celly from Troy, MI
This is my fourth time purchasing this ACV rinse. It works great at helping to break down the natural shampoo bar since we have hard water. It's also nice to just rinse your hair with for scalp health.
Feels cleaner than shampoo
Marielle from New York
I work out 5-6 times a week and shampooing my hair that often was irritating my scalp. I switched to this ACV hair rinse instead and my hair and scalp feel cleaner and more moisturized.
I like it
J from Texas
I wouldn't replace my shampoo and conditioner with it solely, but it perfect for when I have box braids. I can still smell the apple cider vinegar, but it didn't linger for too long.
Works but makes my scalp itchy!
lorcin from New Jersey
Yes, this rinse is effective at gently cleansing the hair and can work as a replacement for shampoo from time to time. HOWEVER, I realized it is the culprit for my itchy scalp. I stopped using it during quarantine because I had less reason to, and honestly noticed "wow my normal itchy winter scalp hasn't started this year" but thought it was just the weather or something. Then I used this rinse cause I noticed it sitting on my shelves and wanted to finish the bottle up, and lo and behold my scalp has started itching again! It has been a week since I've used it and I'm still experiencing itching and irritation. This was probably the reason I had an "itchy winter scalp" in the first place. I dumped the rest of the bottle down the drain and will not be repurchasing.
Hair still fairly greasy
Liz from Larkspur
You basically have to wash your hair because you get it wet and then it is still oily. Not impressed
