Most Helpful Positive Review S O M A N Y USES F O R WITCH HAZEL ☾
I was fortunate enough to get the much coveted Thatcher's Witch Hazel Vox Box. ♡
I took my time with trying out these two big bottles of the rose petal and the aloe vera version. Those two big bottles are intimidating at first. We all know the basics. Witch hazel is great for de puffing eyes, at its simplest form it can be used as a basic toner, it shrinks pores, awesome as smoothing an inflamed bikini line.

So I wanted to see what more can I do with all this witch hazel. It has so many benefits for the skin, I wanted to take as much advantage of that as possible. My first fun thing to try is, I've heard you can use baking soda and vinegar to clean jewelry but vinegar isn't the best smell in the world. So I switched vinegar with witch hazel instead. It worked like a charm. I used the Aloe Vera witch hazel and mixed with baking soda, I let my sliver charm bracelet from James Avery ( Texans will understand ) sit in a plastic cup with the mixture overnight and in the morning I used a toothbrush the clean and rinsed with water. You could see the dirt and grime floating on top of the witch hazel. Now imagine what it does to your face ladies? My bracelet came out shiny and smelling amazing. I'm so happy I tired this and WAY cheaper than chemical riddled jewelry cleaner!!!!
Now, this is just the start of my review. So settle down and let's move on to the what it does to the skin.
Skin problems ;
I unfortunately have SLE Lupus. So my skin is inflamed dry and in pain constantly. So I used the Aloe version and a soaked cotton ball as a quick way to sooth my dry itchy red scaled skin. It almost works as well as my medicated sprays which encourages me to figure out to make some sort of paste for my skin. Anyone have an recipes to share let me know! I think I reacted so well because the less chemicals I use on my skin the better it is and I've always reacted well to aloe.
It's worked decently on my minor cuts, ( I heal slow ) good on razor burns on my shins. Great on red bumps as long as I really saturate the cotton pad and let it stay on my skin for at least 15 mins. I haven't tired it to get rid of bruises fast ( I'm anemic) but I'm sure I'll get the chance too soon and update my review.
Mini facial ;
I did one thing that felt awesome and was simple. I took a washcloth that was slightly wet from the fridge and soaked it in Aloe Vera witch hazel and sprayed Aloe Vera spray ( it's Aloe Vera in liquid form that's sold on Amazon ) then placed it on my whole face. It helped my red windburned cheeks so much, but overall it felt fantastic over my eyelids and under eyes. I tend to bite my lips so the washcloth mixed with the cooling ingredients soothed my chewed up lips. I was surprised a simple quick thing to do yet it was so relaxing and calming to my skin. It was like a mini time out spa. Plus I'm hoping it will slow down the produce of sebum on my face if I do these little mini spa breaks from time to time.
Makeup Remover ;
As far as a makeup remover mixed with coconut oil ( I went with a simple recipe) it worked alright but then again I wear low maintenance makeup. But it did leave me smelling good!

I was thrilled to figure out a way to use witch hazel on my hair!. After I read it was good at getting rid of sebum and oily ness and that it was good for taming frizz. I had to read more on what to mix up with this and make it as simple as possible because if you have to mix a billion things I might as well just buy a product already made. I'm a lazy gal, I believe DIY should be fun and to be fun it should be easy, helpful and smell good.
Scalp treatment ;
So of course I used the Thayer rose petal witch hazel because I wanted my scalp to smell beautiful and to get rid of built up sebum on my scalp and help with frizz. Aloe Vera gel is next to promote hair growth and the gel with give it more ease so it's easier to pour massage and comb into your scalp and top of your head. Next is no surprise, coconut oil and castor oil. Stir it all together and part your hair in sections to apply. Wear a shower cap and leave on for 15-20 mins. Sorry I don't have measurements I just kind of eyeball my cup. I did make sure to wash my hair in the shower a few times to make sure I got the coconut oil / castor oil out. I think the hair mask can work just fine with Aloe Vera & witch hazel if you are in a pinch or don't want to use any oils. Give it a try.
Easy scalp treatment ;
Promotes shiny hair, faster growth by removing sebum from scalp and taming down frizz
Thayers Rose Witch Hazel
Aloe Vera gel
D I R E C T I O N S | |
Started with a mix of dollops Aloe Vera gel. Added witch hazel to mix and added more aloe Vera to thicken up until you feel it's the right consistency for your scalp and hair. Part hair in sections. Apply on scalp then using a wide comb brush the remaining scalp treatment down your hair to tame frizzes. Place hair in shower cap for 15-20 mins then rinse out and wash hair.
Face mask ;
I made a face mask using the rose petal witch hazel since I always wanted a rose face mask but they are usually pricey, or sell out pretty fast if they are decently priced. It left my face so soft like baby's skin for 2-3 days that I didn't need moisturizer for my face. Plus I loved, absolutely loved that it left my face smelling like a rose!
What did I use?
Thayers Rose Witch Hazel
Aloe Vera gel
Indian healing clay
D I R E C T I O N S | |
Started with a sprinkle of clay then mixed in dollops of Aloe Vera. Added witch hazel and rose water to soften up clay mixture and added more aloe Vera to thicken up mixture until it has a PASTE like consistency. Excellent for applying on your face or rough cracked feet.
I certainly didn't leave the most glamorous for last. It was just coincidence I guess. It happened to be the last thing I tested because actually my foot got my attention. The sole of my foot started to itch like crazy. My feet are clean, no funguses, normal feet. Sometimes it's in arm that itches like crazy, or a finger but it's especially annoying when it's your foot. I've tired lidocaine spray and other things but I usually have to wait it out because I'm too ticklish to scratch my own feet. Then the big container of Rose Witch Hazel caught my eye. It was the smell at first. I thought 'hmm I want my foot to smell rosy why don't they make rose smelling foot products?' Then it occurs to me how well the witch hazel performed on my Lupus flared skin. That's how I came up with using a soaked cotton pad to take care of my itchy sole of my left foot. Just like that the itch stopped. It was amazing how quick and easy. All that suffering for nothing, and no...I don't have gross dirty feet. I swear. I just get itchy every where due to lupus. :)

for your endurance at reading my super crazy long review and experiments with Thayers Witch Hazel. You can probably tell overall I'm in love with both versions of it, the Aloe and the Rose. The Aloe for its skin healing properties plus it does smell like real fresh aloe. I love the Rose Witch Hazel the smell is phenomenal and a lot of my skin products have rose in them so I already see the youthful benefits of Rose products. Honestly if the offer a two pack to buy I'd get that because it's to hard to choose one. I do know I'll be buying this from now on. I had no idea witch hazel was so good and versatile for your skin. I should have guessed, it's the main ingredient in my Burt's Bees complexion stick, it's also a main ingredient in my Bikini Bump No More pads. Witch Hazel is everywhere, just look at your beauty products ladies. We've been using it this whole time, and personally I rather get the direct source.
Most Helpful Critical Review Changed the formula when sold out to Loreal.
I've been using the rose petal toner for years and it was the absolute best. I read that they sold out to Loreal last year so I expected the product would be altered. The original product did not have added caprylyl glycol, ethylhexylglycerine, or potassium hydroxide. The water no longer says purified and the fragrance no longer says what it is, where it used to say natural rose. This may not matter to some people, but it certainly did to me. It's a shame that they changed the formula unnecessarily. So sad to have to find a new company to purchase this from. If it isn't broken, don't fix it.

Forgot to pack my toner for weekend getaway so grabbed this 3 years ago and realized Thayers was so much better than what I was using. I have sensitive skin and have no problem with Thayers Witch Hazel Toner!
Does exactly what is needed

I like this version of witch hazel. Not too stingy.
finished a bottle before this review
Yala from My house
I bought the rose toner and while I tried to like it, as it's a cheap alternative to my regular toner, I just couldn't. We weren't compatible. Maybe it's the witch hazel but it always irritated my skin. I'll have to look elsewhere.
Amazing scent and so refreshing to use
Ghostgirl1 from Virginia Beach, VA
This is a regular staple product for me. I use after cleansing my skin at night. Removes any makeup residue and tightens and shrinks my pores without drying out my skin. I use it in the morning again as a wake up freshener. The scent is perfect and starts you on a positive note for the day.
Added bonus: This product also stopped the itch when my husband got poison ivy and stopped the "cat scratch" itch when my daughter was scratched by our kitten. Since it is non-alcoholic it does not dry up the skin.
Definitely Will Buy This Product

I appreciate the makeup artist who assigned me and the toner is wonderful.
Pores look smaller and skin is well-balanced

My esthetician told me to use this toner in the morning instead of cleanser. I wasn't thrilled about the idea but now I've been using it for two weeks and my pores are smaller and my face doesn't get as greasy during the day. Highly recommend if you have sensitive/combination skin
Rose Petal is the best one
Lulu from US
I've tried all versions of this toner except the unscented. I will mention my experience with the other versions because I've noticed when a product has multiple types/scents, the reviews on Ulta can be confusing because we can't tell which version the review is about.
I have combination sensitive skin, and I've found the rose petal version to be the best for my skin: it does the job of a toner without causing irritation. It feels fresh and leaves my skin soft. I've noticed a general tone and texture improvement from this too. Rose Petal is the only one I will continue to repurchase.
Cucumber smells good but it was very drying, which I didn't expect. If you have oily skin, you may like the cucumber one.
Lavender was good at first, but a few uses it caused too much irritation to my skin. Though I was disappointed, I was not really surprised. Lavender isn't always the best to use on skin, especially for sensitive skin types.
Coconut broke me out really bad! I should have known because coconut water and coconut oil can cause acne. Stay away unless you know coconut doesn't break you out.
Love but don't Overuse!
Essie from Maryland
I have sensitive normal/borderline-oily skin and bought the travel size cucumber version. I love this product for clearing skin when I have little breakouts or flare ups of acne which are rare for me. I only use this probably twice a week and at night hence the travel size. It does brighten my skin and even out texture. I gave it 4 stars because it would not use it how it's recommended. I would not use this every day for any skin type as it is very DRYING even for oily skin!
I would only buy this if your skin is not too dry.
JoJo from Seattle, WA
I have tried different toners in the past which I was not impressed with. I was hoping this one would be better after I saw it on the Today show. The person said this one would not dry your skin like previous ones. If I only use it at night it is OK. But when I have used it also in the morning my cheeks get pretty red during the day.
I definitely will buy again

Helps heal poison ivy and dries up excess oils without any burn. Leaves me feeling fresh and clean. I just apply it with a cotton ball or pad.
It's amazing at first then loses its touch
nana from Winchester
It was really good at first made myself skin even looking and no acne . After using it for awhile it just didn't help anymore . It was like if I wasn't even using any type of toner anymore . So if your looking for a toner that works for awhile this isn't ur go to
Katie from Utah
Love how this leaves my skin! I use treatment and moisturize afterward and my skin is so clear! Mild enough to use twice a day. Not drying as it doesn't have alcohol. My go to witch hazel toner!
Jess from Minnesota
Loved this! I have extremely sensitive skin and this toner was wonderful. Absolutely no irritation, the rose smells was subtle but great. I would definitely this to everyone especially for the price.
Bad for my skin
VTE from Rochester
I bought this in the coconut version. I have combination skin so I though this would be fine. It made my skin oily but did hydrate it well. However for some reason it made my eyelids SOOO oily. I don't know how or why since I don't put it on them and I try not to use a lot. I thought at first it might have been something else since I had altered my skin care routine at the same time, but almost a year later and when I put this on at night I wake up with super oily eyelids. I don't know if this product overall is the issue or if it's just the coconut version but either way was not worth it.

Great product. Will recommend.

I've been using the lemon scented toner for about 4 months now and wow! I see a huge difference… I have oily and acne prone skin, but my oil and pimples really depends on what I ate the other day or the weather, and this product really deep cleans my skin and removes excess oil and helps to make my skin feel clean and dries pimples. One complaint I do have is that it burned the area around my nose and really hurts when you have cuts or busted pimples on your face. But other than that, love it!!

It cleans very well and it helps with different skin type.

Saw this on some insta skin care pages and thought I should join the hype. But wow it's so stripping, I completely damaged my moisture barrier.
