I use this 2-4 times a week in my evening skincare routine. After I cleanse and under a light face oil and moisturizer. I haven't had any adverse reactions, but I did slowly introduce this to my skin- mixing a drop into my moisturizer then finally putting it directly on my skin after a week of that. I've heard it can really dry out a face that isn't used to chemical exfoliants/serums/whatever.
I didn't purchase this expecting a miracle, but I hope to stop this rapid aging and give my skin some TLC. I have noticed a TINY bit of change in the depth of my forehead wrinkles and quality of my skin - but that could be because I've also added a face oil and regular sunscreen (oops, shoulda done that ages ago) into my skincare routine. I feel like getting through a bottle of it completely will give a better impression of its efficacy. All-in-all I think it's a crazy affordable way to ease some more intensive face care into your routine.
I thought I'd give this a try and had no idea it had to be refrigerated until I read the packaging, that was my mistake. I'm only noting it because all my skin care is upstairs and going up and down the stairs JUST to get this out of the fridge and put it back is a hassle for me. I took 1 Star for that. I did another star purely because it is VERY oily on my skin and I don't like that feeling :( it really isn't bad though and I do like waking up and my skin looking lovely. I've just had better success with advance clinicals retinol and love it a lot more.
Overall; it's really just comes down to how you like your skin care products I think. If you have a little fridge dedicated to skin care, you can't beat the price. If having oily skin before bed doesn't bother you, buy it cause it truly isn't terrible.

Great retinol and so cheap, but I wish I could buy a smaller bottle. I couldn't use it all before it expired. Keep in mind the expiration and remember to throw it in the fridge (packaging says to refrigerate after opening).

My mom and I have been using this for about 2 months now. I have seen reduction of fine lines and wrinkles in her skin while she uses this, although she is not very consistent with it, I have been using this to get rid of acne scars (both pigmentation scars and physical scaring) I see some improvement with my scars and will continue to use this. Retinol takes time to show results so my expectations are still high for this product. The price is great and I love that the ordinary offers difference concentrations of retinol to use over time when skin gets more tolerant. This is a great one for beginners. It's the first one I used and as long as you use it along with a hydrating product you should be fine. The smell is not pleasant but it's bearable. Make sure you do not put too much on your skin or your skin might break out or feel greasy all night. 2-3 drops is good for me on my face and one drop on my neck

I used for a month and didn't see a significant change in my skin. I didn't purge when I used it so there was no period of time that I had to suffer before I saw changes. It did feel nice when I applied it to my skin, but it is very easy to put too much. It's cheap so you pay for what you get.

Be careful using this product if you have never used retinol on your skin before. It will make you look rough.. Even if you space it out during the week, the concentration of this retinol is TOO strong for BEGINNERS. This is the kind of product that people who have used retinol for years would use (An employee on The Ordinary on their website told me this). If you want to start using retinol, start with The ordinarys retinoid granactive serums. This one is too strong for beginner users and especially if you have sensitive skin.

This product felt no different than putting vegetable oil directly onto my face. The formula is thick and greasy. Even with a drop or two, it doesn't absorb at all and leaves an uncomfortable layer of product on your skin. I feel this would only work on someone with severely dry, dehydrated skin.

Loves this product, it's very gentle, not harsh on the skin.
Angie from Dallas
To me, it does not seem to sink into my skin at all so my face feels gross, not good on pillowcases, etc. I am happy to pay more for a different retinol that will better meet my needs.

This product is fantastic. Because retinol first makes your skin purge, it feels like this product is actually making your skin digress. It had to get worse before it got better. This retinol gives such a deep chemical exfoliation but it can still take about a month or longer for all of the deep skin impurities to surface. Two months in, I don't even recognize my skin. I'd recommend researching skin purging before purchasing so there are no surprises.

I'm 27 and this is my first time using retinol.
I've been using this for only about 4-5 days and the bags under my eyes and the fine lines around my mouth have already significantly smoothed out!
Of course I'm using other products in my routine from The Ordinary.
(ie. "Buffet", "Niacinamide", and "Hyaluronic Acid")
But I'm impressed by how quickly this routine is working now.
I've also had little to no skin irritation using this product.
When I say little, I mean I hardly noticed it but there has been a tiny bit of tingling.
It is an oil which had me skeptical since my T-zone tends to be pretty oily but by the morning my skin doesn't feel oily like it used to.
This is definitely going to be a new staple in my regime.

It's not best in the market but you can see some results after using, would recommend if you can't afford the high end ones,

Even if I use a minute amount, it still breaks me out. I'll still stick with it a little longer to see if it will work.

I'm trying to slowly add retinol to my routine but I'm breaking out every time I use it and I'm only using it once every two weeks, I'm going to keep trying
Maureen from Brunswick, GA
When I'm very tired, I just clean my face and then apply this retinol in all my face under eyes too and looks moisturized in the morning
Savy from Louisville
Best product to help with my fine lines and it even helped with my acne! 10/10 would definitely recommend

this is it! I've never used retinol before and didn't expect too much from this. But it helps so much with cell turnover that keeps my hormonal acne at bay and makes little pimples flat overnight. I used to spot treat with benzoyl peroxide which definitely helped but the healing process when I break out is so much quicker now. I don't get any irritation from this product either. would recommend to anyone struggling with acne or skin discoloration (but note it takes much longer for skin discoloration, and you really must use an SPF).
Sam from Syracuse
I can't believe how quickly I'm noticing a difference in my acne. It's even helping the cystic acne that settles around my jawline as my hormones fluctuate. Incredible.
Vicki from Los Angeles
I use it before I put on my moisturizer
Juju from Michigan
I use this product as recommended

I like this product I've seen little results but since it's very strong I recommend using it every 3 day for the first month then every 2 day for the second month and then every other day for the third month. I recommend using it like this since it's very strong and just do it like that then next year do the same I don't recommend using it all year long since it's very strong.

I'm almost 27 and have noticed some aging spots on my face recently. With all the great reviews of this product, what could go wrong??
My face had only 1 small pimple (that was on its way to be cleared up!) before trying this. I woke up with my face and neck itching, burning, and bright red. And the worst part was I had about 10 new pimples...not even joking! Ugh, this is exactly why I hate to try anything new on my face!!

I do not know what this does, but it is magic. Literally apply every night before bed and my skin is sooo soft.
Anne from Chicago, IL
I bought this 3 weeks ago, I've notice some very small difference in my skin, not a lot. I'm still giving it some time to work before I give up on it. I'm not expecting immediate results, but hopefully after using it longer, I will see better results. I will probably buy again.

I think this is the best product to start on retinols. Its mild. It didn't cause much purging altho I had pimples while using it but that's cause of my period. It didn't dry out my skin or burnt it. Over all it was nice! I think its very moisturizing, i dont usually put a moisturizer after this anymore, it also made my skin plump and my underye area look better!
Acneproneskin from Los Angeles, CA
I use 4 different "the ordinary" skin care products and this is my last application because of the oiliness. This helps me from not having dry and flaky skin. My skin has also started to get smoother.
ElleJ from Socal
Simple, unscented, hydrating. It is a very nice consistency, and absorbs well into my skin without it being too tacky or just completely disappearing.
I was using it on my dry t-zone, neck, and chest before my moisturizer and it's just a great, no frills addition. I really appreciate having something that is an enduring recipe that is affordable. I felt dewy and hydrated and it helped with my t-zone dryness after use immediately.
