Most Helpful Positive Review Revised Review! After Months of Use
I wanted to revise my initial 3 star review that I did for this product, but Ulta isn't really good at allowing one to do that...so I decided to add another review to add to what my experience has been with this vitamin C serum. Initially, I gave this serum a "hard pass" but have grown to appreciate how great this serum is. First of all, the smell is from the Ferulic Acid which gives any serum that contains it a "hot dog water smell." I don't like the smell, but having a smell doesn't make the serum "bad"...it is simply the Ferulic Acid. This serum contains THD ascorbate (THDA), which is a fat soluble form of vitamin C, which means it actually does penetrate all the way down to the dermis layer of our skin, and studies have shown that THDA actually interrupts the formation of cancer cells. THDA is also very shelf stable. L-Ascorbic Acid (LAA, the most widely known form of Vitamin C) is water soluble, which means it stays on the outer surface of your skin, never penetrating to the dermis. So, when you combine THDA, vitamin E and ferulic, then you have a very potent antioxidant serum that has science based cancer fighting results. That is why, after putting the bottle down and calming my rosacea skin, I tried this serum again. I am very careful in how I use this serum. as most vitamin C serums irritate my skin. Vitamin C serums also don't need to be used every day. They can be used every other day or every 3 days, as vitamin C does remain on your skin for a few days after you apply it, even with washing. What makes this serum the very best out there, in my opinion, is that it can sit on your shelf for 18 months before it goes bad, and it penetrates deeply and is more effective than LAA. I'm glad I gave this serum another chance. I even use this as a stand alone moisturizer, as it is very creamy. Some nights, I combine it with PTR's Water Drench serum and call it a night. Give this serum a shot, your skin will thank you.
Most Helpful Critical Review Not worth the price point
I have many PTR products & was excited to try this one. I have been using it for about 3 weeks & really can't see much of an improvement. I agree that it is more like a moisturizer then a serum. It made my skin oily using it 2 times a day. I have decreased to just once a day. I feel it also made my skin breakout. So sad that it isn't living up to the hype on my skin. I didn't notice any irritation though.

Great product, does smell
ssm0120 from VA
If you can get past the smell, then this product is great. I actually thought it may be bad initially, just FYI on the smell part. That said, it has done wonders for some of my dark spots and goes on easy and soaks in well. Not greasy or have feeling. Worth the cost.
Best Serum Out There!
Mandie the Writer from Colorado
This is my second bottle of this serum, so that speaks volumes. I use it 2x a day on face and neck, and I have seen visible results. My neck looks smoother, and my skin is most definitely brighter. I think if you apply as directed, you'll see results. It also has a nice clove smell, if you like cloves, of course.
To expensive for the results you receive from the product

It works!! Worth every dollar
Ana from Michigan
I am sensitive skin and acne prone. This serum has saved my skin! It has brightened my scars and faded hyperpigmentation!! I can't be without it. Yes it doesn't smell "like oranges" but guess what the ingredients and science behind it is what matters! Plenty of perfume disguised as vitamin C out in the market. PTR is the real deal
zee from fargo
After reading the bad reviews I was so hesitant to buy it but took a risk and started using it 10 days ago. it has a very unpleasant smell and thats the only negative thing about it..I have used vichy for a long time but never saw any improvements and after using this one my skin is radiant and fresh, so hydrated and I will continue buying it and recommend it to anyone. ignore the smell and get it.
Pricey but worth it
Rinny from Phoenix
Apply to clean dry skin 2x a day. I'm African American and have been dealing with dark marks from acne that I pick at. This product has improved my complexion tremendously. I'm on my second bottle. It's pricey but worth it. Smells weird too.

Not up to par
Haley from Alabama
My skincare routine is almost 100% PTR. I own two serums and two moisturizers and an eye cream (Outside of makeup remover some Of my masks). I felt strongly that this product is NOT a serum. Feels just like a moisturizer. A greasy moisturizer. This product took far to long to sink into the skin. Will not repurchase
This product is worth the money!

Solid serum; wish it smelled better
Melliemel from Austin , Texas
I remember that ptr had a vit c serum that was thinner , orangey, and it smelled better. I bought this thinking it was like the sample years ago that I fired. The scent was a bummer and it's a little more tacky than the previous serum but I must say it feels GREAT once dried and it works well. I'd buy again for sure but the cost is a bit high.
Vitamin C Serum
Teragram from California
Yes, this product is expensive. And yes, it's true, the smell is truly awful. BUT IT WORKS. And it works better than any other vitamin c serum I've tried. I've seen my skin get brighter, dark spots fade, and I'm able to confidently go makeup-free. The reason it stinks is because this serum has a potent and stable version of vitamin c. I tried the drunk elephant one - which contains the same active ingredient - and it smelled the same. But I like the texture of the PTR one better! Not sticky and I'm able to layer it, then apply my makeup on top. A bottle lasts a long time! Will be repurchasing when the time comes.

The smell was a little intriguing, it smells herbal like patchouli, the smell gos away as it sits on your skin. I have cystic acne but my top layer of skin is really dry and this has helped with evening out my texture and rejuvenating what my acne has destroyed as well as tightening my skin. My makeup sits nicer as well. I pair this with the Peter Thomas Hyaluronic cloud serum then a moisturizer with spf after. My skin has never felt and looked better. I would buy the rest of the line if my wallet could afford it because it is pretty pricy but WORTH the price. If you really wanted something with vitamin c-get this. If you also want something to moisturize get this and pair this with the hyaluronic cloud serum as well.
Really made my skin brighter
Moxie from Iowa
After one use my skin looks brighter. I did start using multiple products at once but I've used them all before on an individual basis and never noticed the brightening effect. I'm nearing 40 so I'm trying to take better care of my skin and this stuff is amazing. I got it as a free sample with purchase of PTR Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Serum and PTR Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream (which are also amazing!) and I love it. It does smell like hot dogs/hot dog water but I only notice it while applying. After I've applied it I don't smell anything or maybe it's because of my other products but once it's on I smell nothing. My skin looks so much brighter and healthier using not only this product but the others mentioned. It's pricey but if you are looking to improve your skincare routine I highly recommend.
Give it a chance..it's a life changer!
Ana from Novato, Ca
I got this as a sample with a moisturizer kit I bought. At first the smell threw me off, but as an esthetician myself, I knew that concentrated products don't always smell like candy. Vitamins give it a bit of a unique smell. Nonetheless, I started using it...it's been about 3 weeks now, and my skin has never looked or felt better! It's clear, smooth, hydrated, and plumped. I love it!!!
Katie from Virginia Beach
Got this as a sample with the water drench moisturizer (a favorite of mine.) I was excited to incomparable this product into my routine, however I was severely unimpressed. First of all - the SMELL. Smells like hot dog water. Second, it left my face feeling VERY tacky and oily/shiny. Would not recommend this product to ANYONE.
LOVE THIS !
Denise E from Downey
I'm 25 years old and consider skin care essential to prevent aging, Ive bought several vitamin C, drunk elephant, maelove glow serum and olehenriksen truth serum and none have shown significant change as PTR. I love this, Ive only been using for a month every a.m and I'm obsessed with my natural glow. I recommend this to everyone, bought my 54 year old mom this and she is also obsessed. If you want to invest in a quality product purchase this
Gentle and does not cause breakouts
Jo from Western Springs, IL
I apply this every morning after cleansing and a little bit goes a long way. It's very lightweight, and there is no odor that I can detect. I've tried other vitamin C serums and expensive skin care lotions and all of them make my skin break out with usually one cystic pimple on my chin. This product is very gentle on my skin and has not caused any breakouts. It's now part of my daily routine.
TG from Novato, CA
I read reviews where others disliked the scent. I completely disagree. It smells gently of mulled cloves. I like the fragrance and find it relaxing. Plus, I notice a significant difference when I use this product. I mix up my serums and use this twice a week. I have use skin ceuticals but it was too rich. I also used Perricone but didn't notice a difference. I'll continue to use this.
Noticeable difference in 3 days
RNMomto2 from BethesdaMD
Used day and night for 2 or 3 days and skin texture noticeably smoother. Fine lines seem reduced. Don't understand the smell complaints.
Mary from Nashville
I got a travel size of this in a holiday set and was excited to try it. The smell was very off putting and I didn't notice any visible difference after a few weeks of use. I went back to using my Caudalie serum and am much happier.
Best I've Tried
Kim from MN
I have tried 5 C serums before the PTR. They were oily and just didnt work for my morning routine, which was important to me. All my products I use are fragrance free. This to me has no noticeable scent. I love the way it feels and it layers so nice! I have noticed brightness and evening of my skin tone.
Amazing for daily use
Lyn! from Utah
I use this twice per day and I love it! I am 30 and started getting serious about anti-aging skincare about a year ago. This has been a staple for me and I get a lot of compliments on my skin. Works great under makeup and I also use with a daytime moisturizer. Just give it some time to absorb for maximum effectiveness. The price is a little high but I get a ton of mileage out of each bottle. As for other reviews - I can't figure out why people complain about the smell. I'm on my fourth bottle and it has no scent! I hate perfumed products so I wouldn't use it if it had a smell problem.
Smells like hotdogs
Shepeela from Sheboygan
I was so excited to try this serum! However, It smells like I crushed up hotdogs and slathered them on my face. I walked into the bedroom and my husband said, "what's that wretched smell? It smells like burnt bbq."
If you're looking to have glowing skin and smell like processed meat, this is the product for you!
