I don't care for the fragrance.
This is the first time I have tried this (I should have opted for a sample in a prior order to try it first). The texture is lovely, I don't like the fragrance at all. It reminds me of the liquid soap supplied at rest stops, not unpleasant but somewhat industrial.

There's some important history behind the reviews for the Soothing Gentle Foaming Face Cleanser. Clarins has been known for its cleansers for decades. Many longtime customers were deeply attached to the original formulas, especially the beloved Cottonseed cleanser from the 90s and early 2000s. In 2021, Clarins reformulated its cleanser range to prioritize sustainability and skin microbiome support. While the ingredient philosophy improved, the texture became firmer, the foaming action was minimal, fragrances changed, and even the packaging colors shifted. That understandably caused confusion and frustration among loyal users. In 2023–2024, Clarins reformulated again. This newer version is noticeably softer and creamier, with improved but still gentle foaming. It feels much closer to the pre-2021 experience while maintaining the more skin-barrier-friendly, microbiome-conscious approach. A lot of the negative reviews online reflect reactions to the 2021 version, or nostalgia for formulas from decades ago, rather than the current product on shelves. The current formula is genuinely lovely. It's delicately scented, lightly foaming, soft and creamy in texture, and it cleanses thoroughly without stripping the skin. It feels like a thoughtful evolution rather than a downgrade. If you loved the older yellow shea butter cleanser, this is a very strong modern replacement just with a more skin-barrier-conscious philosophy behind it.

A little goes a long way! This is a great face wash for someone with dry sensitive skin! I can't live without it but one large tube can last me up to six months! I don't use anything else now.
