How to Use

I started using this about 3 weeks ago, and I'm loving it. I'm 48, have hyperpigmentation, redness, and pores the size of UFO's. In 3 weeks, I have seen my pores shrink, my skin brighten, and the redness is significantly reduced. On top of that, my skin is as soft as a baby's behind ! It can be a bit drying, so if you have dry skin, this may not be for you. My skin is like the Exxon Valdez oil spill, so this has even lessened oiliness for me. I wish women would read the instructions on the box. You don't need to poke it open yourself, you remove the white ring, screw the cap back on, and it self punctures. You also don't take the entire cap off to apply it, there are two caps. The ridged cap stays in place and the smooth part of the cap twists off. Come on ladies, I know you're smarter than this, read the directions, and stop complaining about the product oxidizing. Had you followed the directions, and not continued to take the entire cap off, you would not have these problems. Cerave made an exceptionally well packaged product, your inability to follow directions isn't a reason to criticize their product.
I was so glad when I finally finished my tube of this. Like a lot of skincare enthusiasts, I love trying out different vitamin c products, and after hearing so much praise be given to the whole Cerave brand, I decided to purchase one of these.
Objectively speaking, this isn't a bad product: it contains 10% pure vitamin c, ceramides, and several moisturizing and hydrating ingredients like panthenol and hyaluronic acid. The packaging is practical for such an unstable ingredient like vitamin c, because it gets no light exposure and minimal exposure to oxygen before you squeeze the product out. Cerave also uses their patented MVE Technology to better allow the vitamin C to be absorbed by our skin. From what I understand, this means the vitamin C is encapsulated and is released after it's already penetrated the skin, making it more effective. There are actual studies on this delivery system found on PubMed, so it's not just marketing.
With all that said, I just didn't get joy out of using this serum. In addition to using skincare to address issues I have, skincare is also a hobby and a self-care thing for me. The experience of using a product is important to me. Cerave is a brand that markets itself in a very dull way. This product looks like some kind of ointment tube. If I were someone with severe skin issues and only interested in seeing results, or maybe just someone who doesn't care much about the experience of using a product, I'd probably love Cerave. That's not the case, though, so I don't see myself buying again from the company on a regular basis. Ultimately the most disappointing thing about this serum is that I didn't notice any difference in my skin's brightness or dark spots left by acne.

Maybe this product wasn't right for my skin type, but this vitamin c absolutely broke me out! At first I thought it was my skin purging since I've never used vitamin c before, but 2 months later and my skin never looked worse. Had pimples all over my forehead and chin. I finally used the tube up and got the Glow Baby serum by Pacifica which contains vitamin c and my skin already has cleared up since using the serum and not using the Cerave anymore. Was very disappointed because I love their hydrating face wash and I use their moisturizer in the morning :(

I have oily acne prone African American skin. With that comes the dark post-acne scars.
I used this every morning after my Cerave SA cleanser in an attempt to lower my skin's PH (so this can actually penetrate my skin). Then I topped it off with a moisturizer SPF 30. I also have microneedling done once a month. I used this product in its entirety before leaving a review.
I like this product because it has No fragrance. Packaging doesn't allow light or air in. They tell you the percentage of l- ascorbic acid in it. The consistency is lightweight.
With all this being said, the vitamin C serum only MAINTAINS the results that the microneedling gives me. I feel like this is a maintenance product in the sense that, it doesn't worsen my dark spots and it doesn't drastically improve them also. The microneedling is what's improving them. I know this because I started microneedling before using this. The results were steady with each session. Then I added this, and the results were still steady. Nothing drastic happened.

I'd been looking for a vitamin C for a while and I finally settled on this. Been using 2 months and my skin is noticeably brighter and smoother.

It's ok. The the scent is very minimal metallic smell, not harsh or strong and goes away quick. It peels if you're wearing makeup (even my expensive makeup) and I actually have a cheaper brand I used once and noticed more of a difference than using this a week. If you don't wear makeup, go for it. I'll be returning this product...

Hormonal/stress acne finally under control. I've been looking for a product to help eliminate scarring gently and effectively. I only use it at night given all of the reviews regarding pilling under makeup. Three weeks in and I'm very impressed!

After cleansing and toning I use the cereve vitamin c serum then apply a moisturizer and sunscreen. I've been using it daily for about a month, while I do see results (getting rid of sun spots is a journey, not a race) the pilling is a bit much. The moment it starts to dry on my face it'll start to peel/pill. I actually thought it was my moisturizer at first but after I performed a patch test of each of my products there was no mistaking this product was the culprit. If anything brushes my face, immediate pilling, this includes my hair. The product around my hairline is constantly in my hair and it looks disgusting and then I spend the next however long in the bathroom trying to get it all off from around my hairline and out of my hair. It feels like a waste of money to apply a product just to have it wipe off. There are other products that I feel work better/just as well that don't pill off.

Smells so bad I couldn't use it

I tried this because I wanted an affordable and gentle option. I am about halfway through with the tube using consistently day and night. I have noticed a big difference in the tone and softness of my skin. I feel more even and this doesn't irritate me at all. It's in my cart to repurchase!!!

This is by far the best vitamin c serum for the price. It has reduced my fine lines, eliminated red spots, and lightened and almost eliminated the dark spots on my forehead. You only need 3 drops for the whole face. The reviewers that talk about "pilling" are using too much. Follow it with a small amount of moisturizer. Works beautifully under makeup. All vitamin c serums have a faint metallic smell (ascorbic acid!), but this one is less than other brands. I spent a lot of money on Clinique Fresh Pressed, and results were similar with this at a fraction of the cost.

I literally just bought this and tried it out. It peels off in lil pills if you rub your face and I only had moisturizer on top of this. Will not work great with makeup.

I saw a difference in about a week. My complexion looks more even and my sun spots have gotten lighter. It has alcohol in it so it is drying. Make sure you moisturize after. Can't beat the price for what it does.

I tried this because I have/had two red peeling spots from car window sun damage on my face that no moisturizer was able to help and I figured why not? I use it at night because it does pill up under makeup and I cant get away without makeup. I have been using this for about 3 weeks and my two red spots are no longer peeling and the redness is greatly reduced. I let it sink in and then top off with one of my many moisturizers.

This is the first vitamin C product I have ever used, and after some research, I decided to combine it with a niacinamide serum and apply them both in the morning to clean skin, then follow up with the Tula sunscreen. I have noticed improvement in my dark spots from cystic acne which is great. However. This cannot be worn under makeup. I have tried multiple things to prevent the severe pilling that occurs but nothing has helped. I tried no serum underneath, I tried two different serums underneath, I tried applying less, letting each layer dry, mixing the products (which made pilling worse), applying to damp ski, applying to dry skin, nothing helps. And this happens even on days I am not wearing sunscreen. I notice it pill under my mask from friction or if i rub my face. Very frustrating. I wanted to like this because it works, but if you ever want to put makeup over your skincare or even sunscreen (which you should because vitamin C can make you photosensitive) you need to find a different product.

I returned mine. It smelled way too (and I mean WAY, like unbearably) metallic-y. I had to wash it off. Maybe a younger me would have dealt with it, but I know now that vitamin c doesn't have to oxidize upon opening. Other options exist!

1st store it in the fridge as it won't yellow and will keep it potent. If you have flare ups like pimples or bumps, then back off using for a week and then start again. Some may need to work up gradually for daily use. Be patient. This product works. If your skin feels sunburnt don't use this product until that clears up.

This is the first vitamin c I have tried. I chose it because Cerave is a product I trust. I haven't noticed any changes in my skin, but I've only been using it for a few weeks. I will probably not repurchase this product and will try another brand next time.

Didn't see a difference. Waste of money

I've used other cerave products in the past and had good results, but this one leaves little bumps on my forehead. Wouldn't recommend for sensitive skin.

Burnt my skin after an hour of applying. Also dried it to where it was peeling in splotches. I have pretty tolerable skin so this is new for me. My face is still burning after applying aloe

This made me breakout horribly. I thought maybe I was just 'purging', continued using for about a month and was still breaking out horribly. This did make my face feel super soft, just didn't work for me.

Went in looking for something to help repair my skins moisture barrier and the employee suggested this vitamin c serum. It's gentle for my sensitive skin and a great price! It makes my skin so soft and smooth.
