I have type 4, mid back length hair with medium-coarse strand thickness and I'm confused as to how anyone could rate this 5 stars. The whole purpose of a shampoo is to clean the hair and this didn't do that. I always assumed a detox would do everything a clarifier does and more but this doesn't rea...lly do much of anything besides tingle and have a strong smell. I typically used it as a first wash (thinking it would clarify) and then used a moisturizing shampoo. Depending on whether the moisturizing shampoo had sulfates or not, my hair would either feel dry or just not clean. One time, it was the only shampoo I had available to use (I got a free Briogeo travel/sample gift set from an Ulta purchase and threw it in my travel bag) and I washed my hair 3 times because I thought if I used it enough, it would finally clean. Wrong. My hair was so sticky and the ends were clumping together even after the blow dry. The blow dry time increased because it's harder to dry dirty hair. My flat ironed hair looked stringy on the ends. I also tried using it as a moisturizing shampoo after I clarified with my usual clarifier. This produced the best results out of the 3; my hair actually looked good. But my hair went from feeling clean to feeling dirty again! Not as dirty as when I used it by itself 3 times, but still noticeable. I could feel the tackiness on my fingertips when I rubbed them together. I had to turn the flat iron down because my hair was sizzling. I also flat iron using the brush-chase method and there was black/gray soot on the bristles. The brush I use is pink, so it was very noticeable. That only happens when my hair is dirty. The main cleaning ingredient is Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate which is a mild clarifier. That wouldn't be bad if weren't loaded with a whole bunch of oils. It most likely did clean but also deposited extra oils onto the hair to make it feel softer which lead to the tackiness. I looked at the ingredient list beforehand, but with all the good reviews and with it being such an expensive product, I assumed it would be better formulated. I will say this: The stickiness subsided a LITTLE bit after applying the Don't Despair Repair Deep Conditioning mask, but not completely. The exfoliating beads dissolve pretty easily but also give you ample time to clean your scalp. It didn't cause my hair to tangle and detangling was pretty easy. Also, it did get my scalp pretty clean looking and it's virtually impossible to dry out your hair or scalp with this alone. I can see how it could help with scalp dryness. But I don't have that issue, so it's not worth the price tag to me when it also deposits build up on the hair. Also, all that oil being left behind on the scalp will probably cause clogged follicles and lead to excess shedding over time. I got 2 when it was half off during the Gorgeous Hair Event and still took both of them back.
