- Start with dry hair and section into manageable areas to work with
- Set iron to the desired temperature for your hair type
- Starting with a single section (about 1"), take iron and open the clamp. Starting at the top (use caution near the scalp), place the section between the barrel & clamp, then close
- With the clamp still closed, twist the iron in an outward direction (away from the face) and continue twisting as you move down the section until it's fully wrapped around the barrel
- Pro Tip: Stop wrapping when you reach the section's last ¼ - ½" so that some ends stay uncurled. This gives you a beachy feel
- Hold the section for 4-8 seconds (depending on hair type) then open the clamp and release
- Pro Tip: Once the section is released from iron, grab section from the bottom with your hand and reform the curl. Either hold it or pin it until it's cool. This helps styles last even longer
- Repeat with remaining sections

Great iron but questionable extended barrel
Some things I love about the Hot Tools 1 ¼ extended barrel curling iron are: quick heat-up time, swivel cord, multiple heat settings, and it created a beautiful loose curl or beachy wave that lasted all day. My main con is that for being called an extended barrel, I did not find it to be much longer...

All of the bad reviews about the clamp are right
I purchased 2 of these irons at the same time, a 1" and a 1.25". The 1" iron is fantastic and I love it! It's one of the few irons I've used that creates lasting curls and doesn't dry the ends of my hair out. HOWEVER, the 1.25" iron has a clamp that went back after a few uses. I noticed that my hair would fall right out of the iron while trying to curl, and that is because the clamp doesn't shut all of the way, unless forced. The clamp almost feels sticky. I cant recommend this iron, which is unfortunate, because I think when you get a functional one that they are decent quality for the price. But when only 50% of them are functional, it's not worth it - spend your money on something more reliable.
Can't go back to this curling iron
Bought hot tools curling iron and it lasted for yrs so bought the "same" one, of course it was a little different, in Oct. Loved it until the clip started staying open and I had to force it closed. Checked reviews and I see that's normal now. Not buying again.
I definitely would buy this product again.
It's easy to use and I like how easy it is to set the temperature and how quick it heats up.

Best curling iron I ever bought. Granted I only have it like two weeks but it's a winner so far. Heats up quickly, long cord, nice curls. Can only hope it lasts a long time.
Worked in Italy!
Bought this for a trip to Italy and used it with an adapter for 12 days and worked great! Never overheated at all
