Poor results

I will start off this review by saying I did overuse the product, and that led to some really bad results for me. But this 2 star review is based its poor performance BEFORE it wrecked my skin. This product has great reviews and I'm glad it works for so many people (esp given the price)!! But i hope... my experience can help other people understand the nuances of this product. I had been using the Farmacy Honeymoon Glow twice/3x weekly for years. Its an expensive product but the results were amazing. It gave exactly the results the GM treatment promised! so in pursuit of a more affordable regimine, I decided to try this GM one out. I used this product twice a week for twoish weeks and noticed literally no difference. No brightening, no reduction in dryness, nothing. Im giving it a 2 star review bc it may have worked better had I given it more time. But I thought maybe my skin had been used to a stronger acid, so I upped my use to 3 times a week. Thats when things went really, really south. Today is 5 weeks later and my chin and forehead are just now returning to normal. It totally wrecked my skin barrier; my forehead was so red and raw it looked actually burned. My chin looked like it got rug burn. It started with redness and irritation (it hurt to put SPF on!!) and within a few days chunks of skin 2cm long began peeling off my face. The pain and peeling went on for weeks. I felt like no amount of my deep-moisturizing skincare helped. I was applying moisturizer morning, at work, after work and before bed. I ended up using a super hydrating routine morning and night and then topped it with a thick layer of aquaphor whenever possible to lock it in and soften the flakes. That's the only (temporary) relief I could find from the stinging and flakes. The rest of the healing just took time, even now I spend all my time at home with a layer of aquaphor on my face praying its speeding up my recovery so I can finally wear makeup again. The initial lackluster performance led me to believe it was a very gentle product and please know that is not the case!! Please dont make the mistake i did; if it's not working for you with minimal application, its just not for you. Do not try more. That may be ovbious to other people, but Ive been using acids successfully for years and that initial performance really threw me for a loop. I ceremoniously threw out my bottle in a fit of anger and will gladly retreat to my $60 Farmacy serum when my poor skin heals.
