It shouldn't be hard to find a decent high SPF mineral lip balm, but I looked high and low before stumbling onto this one. The few I found that weren't chemical SPF were drying, gritty, super expensive and / or tinted (that last one can be a plus or a minus).
This lip balm is simple in both form and function. It delivers both mineral SPF and moisturizer. It smells pleasant, like coconut and mango but not cloying or overpowering. Basically, it does what it's supposed to do.
I particularly like its texture on the lips, which is smooth and non-tacky. It doesn't feel like you just applied fly tape to your lips. The first couple of uses there was a tiny bit of grit, which is typical of mineral sunscreens. It quickly melted, and after that it wasn't an issue. I don't notice any white cast unless I really pile it on. It's a good one to wear either on its own or under lipstick. It's easy on your wallet too.
The two complaints I have are fairly minor. It doesn't last all that long before it disappears into my lips. Maybe a couple of hours. However... you're supposed to apply sunscreen every couple of hours, so that's not exactly a dealbreaker. The other is that I could use more hydration. My lips are like the Atacama Desert, which might be why it doesn't stay around. Keeping in mind once again that this is primarily a sunscreen, I'm not shattered over that either. When I am at home or at night I can use something more hydrating. No biggie.
A major plus for my husband who also suffers from dry lips (and whom I have trouble convincing to wear sunscreen of any sort) is that he can pilfer these lip balms from my stash and not have to carry a screaming pink floral- or strawberry bubblegum-scented lippie into the machine shop. I bought extras for just that reason. The packaging is plain and the scent is gender neutral, so feel free to share the love.
Read a sponsored review so I purchased this balm. It is super drying and makes your lips crack and red. I used it for 2 days thinking that maybe my lips were just overly dry and I needed to reapply....I usually use Soft lips or Aquafor. I had to use Aquafor on my lips for 3 additional applications over the next week to get my lips soft and supple again....they hurt and were red just from a few days of use.

Bum mineral lip balm is very good. It does not contain harmful chemicals.

Quality lip protection, works great and smells good.

I was so excited to use this product because I've heard good things about this line but once I put it on, it left my lips white and had little clumps.
Michael from Undisclosed
Great product especially being zinc based. I work outside at a golf course and the protection Sun Bum provides does the trick.

I love this lip protection and have used it for a few years!

I was hoping to get away from organic filters in a lip spf since, no matter how much I try to avoid it, it seems to always work its way into my mouth and leaves that nasty taste that even chewing gum can't get rid of. Alas, it leaves a white cast especially on the space between the drier & wetter parts of the lips and makes it look exactly like when you have dead skin gathered on your water line. Also, it's not hydrating at all so it's not even really a lip balm as much as it is just a small spf stick. Just buy yourself a mineral spf stick instead, you'll likely get a better value.

It's bomb. My lips also feel softer after using it. It is kinda hard to put on which is why i give it a 4/5 but once it's on it just melts into your lips ☺️

i thought a mineral lip balm would be better but it burns my lips so bad

I put this on and within minutes my lips started feeling drier and very uncomfortable. My lips are dry and sensitive, that's why I bought this, but it made them feel so much worse, and it happened very quickly.

Sun bum is an excellent lip sunscreen, I have eczema and rosacea and it has not caused any breakout or problems!

I really really like this lip balm not only because it works well protecting and moisturizing my lips, but because it is the only SPF 30 MINERAL lip balm I could find. Good ole zinc and no harmful ingredients like oxybenzone, with a spf rating strong enough to actually protect your lips from the sun! Also it smells good and doesn't have a bad taste.

Look, a lip product with zinc oxide is never going to be anything other than what it is: protection against skin cancer. It's not going to be a creamy jelly bomb, and it's not going to be the world's greatest lip hydrator. I can layer my favorite balm underneath this if I need to, but when it comes to having a layer of protection between my lips and the sun I have never found a better product. I can't use what products with physical block because they taste horrifically repulsive and I have a full body reaction to that horror flavor. A mineral block on my lips, however, has proven to be really challenging to find in a stable formula; they always break down or separate or start turning to muddy chalk on my lips within 20 minutes, leaving little white specks that look like I'm frothing at the mouth. The worst is when I go out running in the summer and want to protect my lips; I come home and look in the mirror after my run and it looks like I am a rabies-crazed zombie jogger. I don't know what it is about mineral SPF on lips but it just doesn't seem to lay down well, and I don't know what witchcraft magic sun bum has developed that keeps the product from pilling. But I'm thrilled about it! Does it have a bit of a white cast to it? Yeah of course, it's a mineral SPF 30. Which is really hard to find in the first place. So if I'm worried about it washing me out I just put a dab of lip stain on first and then layer this on top. Boom! My lips look alive and I also won't get cancer (hopefully). I knew someone who died of lip cancer, and learned that it's a surprisingly common form of skin cancer, and that has scared me into always wearing SPF on any exposed skin - thanks Sun Bum for finally providing a lip product I can tolerate for outdoor walks, workouts, and general fun without wanting to puke or look sickly.

Overall, it is the best cruelty free and vegan sunscreen lip balm I've found. It's not really moisturizing but it also doesn't dry. It basically keeps my lips in whatever condition they're in. It also doesn't leave a whitecast on my pale-light olive skin. I also have to say that this sunscreen is sooooo much better than the other chemical lip sunscreen sun bum produces. This one smells great like them, but, unlike them, it's not greasy, drying, and doesn't leave a horrible taste in my mouth.

I've been on a quest to find a lip balm with SPF that I don't hate. Well, this might have been the worst one I've tried, yet. It's somewhat drying (at the very least, it doesn't add a drop of hydration). I had two different ones, and both were kind of gritty/chunky. Just gross.

Not good for women of color. Turn lips white.

The smell was too much for me personally. I don't know if it was just mine but when I put it on my lips, it felt gritty.

I've tried them all. Bum is the best for me by far!

I liked the feel of this lip balm but the taste was nauseating. great moisture even after immediately wiping it off with my hand. It was the first balm I've tried with mineral sunscreen in it so I'm not sure if this taste just comes with the territory, but I had to throw it away after first use.

I love the smell of this and how nicely the balm melts and glides onto your lips. Also appreciate that it has SPF. The reason why I give it 3/5 though is because it does not keep your lips moisturized for long. As mentioned, it glides on lips so well but after 15-20 minutes, I notice my lips get dry again and I'd have to reapply. I spent a day with this and noticed my self constantly re-applying because it wasn't as moisturizing. I would say maybe use this for SPF and another chapstick for moisture?

Sun Bum has really created something special here and I highly recommend it. This product is an amazing lip SPF. I wanted to get their mineral lip over their chemical lip SPF after some research about the impact chemical SPFs have on the ocean. Zinc can often get demonized because of a "white cast" but this isn't the case here. There is the FAINTEST hint of a white and iridescent cast when you first apply it but if you smack your lips together it disappear. If you over apply it, there will be a little more cast but seriously, THE CAST FADES! You just have to dab it on or smack your lips together and it's gone in an instant. That's what most people don't realize about zinc formulas. You need to rub them together and then apply to deactivate that white case. Oh and the smell?! Like summer and bananas rolled into a tube! Smells amazing. And the ingredients include sweet almond oil right at the top of the list, which means it's formulated in high concentration. So it's super hydrating. Not dry like Fresh lip SPFs and others I've tried. I've brought another for backup and my purse. As I said before, Sun Bum has really created something special here and I highly recommend it.

I liked the smooth formula of this mineral lip balm. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to something in it & experienced burning & a swollen bottom lip. I have rosacea & many sensitivities.

I wore this for about 2 hours paddle boarding, through water and sweat it stayed on. It goes on white and has a white sheer to it on your lips.

I've never had a lip sunscreen I could call pleasant before. The chemical ones always taste like sunscreen and the mineral ones have always been chalky and gross. This one is FREAKING AMAZINGGGGG! It smells like the old Hawaiian Tropic tanning lotion...that ubiquitous "beach" scent...and it doesn't leave even a hint of white. AND it's super moisturizing which I've never ever had from a sunscreen balm before! I also tend to react to minerals due to cross reaction with my severe nickel allergy, so I only bought one to try. I loved it so much I bought more to stash all around.

The only spf lip balm that doesn't leave that unpleasant chemical sunscreen aftertaste.
