Most Helpful Positive Review I think I found my new Holy Grail foundation! I read/watched reviews that talked about the controversy with the old version of the Shape Tape foundation. However, I also saw that Tarte listened to their customers' feedback and made changes to improve the product, which is why they came out with the new Face Tape foundation. I had never tried Tarte foundation or any of their other products, so I didn't really have a bias one way or the other. I am so glad I gave them a shot! I have been on the hunt for the perfect foundation for months now, and I think I finally found it. The shade range is so broad, and I was relieved to find that Tarte offers shades for all different undertones as well. I got shade-matched with 12N and 12B, but chose 12B because it had more beige than golden undertones. I was really happy to see that the color did not oxidize! Since Ulta does not offer samples, I went ahead and purchased the bottle after the sales associate let me know that I could always exchange for a different shade if I got it home and found it didn't work for me. I wore it today for the first time - put it on at about 7:00 am and I am now writing this at 8:00 pm and the foundation has not worn off! In fact, I think it looked better as the day went on! Perfect match for my skin and has a nice, subtle scent to it - kind of a natural, clean, botanical smell - but not overpowering at all and you can't smell it once it's on your skin. Also, it doesn't feel like you're wearing a mask - super lightweight consistency for a full coverage foundation. I have dry, sensitive skin and this did not irritate my skin at all. This foundation did not cling to any dry spots and did not look cakey. It does dry a tad bit fast, but is easy to blend so that did not bother me. It does play nice with other brands of products, and didn't wear down when I put on my setting powder, blush, and highlight. I also liked that it had a blurring effect to my pores and didn't settle into fine lines. I will be going back for the Shape Tape concealer next!
Most Helpful Critical Review Surprisingly disappointed I was really shocked that I didn't like this formula. The Face Tape concealer is so beautiful, and I thought this would pair very well. No...
If you have very problematic skin, this may work for you. The coverage truly is amazing. Just until recently, I have been plagued with very pigmented skin (got on a skin care regimen from the dermatologist). As a result, I'm very use to matte formulas and I can work quickly with a brush. I have mastered the technique of making matte look natural! This formula probably would not work well with a newbie as this is very matte. Very matte, and mask-like. Actually, not mask-like, but plastic-like. As a rule, I kept it on thinking my oily face would make it look natural in about an hour. Well, I was wrong again. I looked like Barbie minus the perfect figure. 😂
I initially decided just to keep it because it was my fault for not trying it on in the store besides a quick color match and I felt embarrassed at the prospect of returning it because I knew better... Alas, my dissatisfaction outweighs my embarrassment. Not only does it look like I have on a plastic mask, it transfers and it cracks. I don't have wrinkles. It cracked at my nonexistent smile lines. It is simply too expensive to keep just to not use it.
I have always had nothing but good things to say about this brand, but this formula is just a bust.

Went in trying to color match, was referred to another brand. Grabbed this on a whim and I'm loving it. I don't feel like I need a lot for full coverage look without the full coverage feel
Absolutely awful 1
AMS from Austin, tx
This is the absolute worst foundation I've ever used. It does not go on the skin easily, it cakes your skin from the moment you try to apply it. It's also way lighter when you apply than it looks on the bottle. It looks okay when you first apply it, but just give it a couple of hours. I work from home, so I don't experience the normal wear & twar of running around the city all day, and when I looked at my face at 6 pm I was literally shocked. It looked like I'd done 3 hours worth of sweating and working out, then dried my face in a freezer. It was cracking and flaking all over my face, I looked terrible and I was literally in my office in my home all day. I'm so glad I tried this out at home and not before I was out in public. Just awful.
Beautiful Foundation 5

I tried this foundation on in the store, and immediately fell in love with it. It goes on a little thick, but I still found it very easy to blend. My skin is pretty good, but I do have some redness and it covered the redness quite nicely, yet still managed to look very natural on the skin. I am 61 with normal age related dryness, and it did not make my skin look dry at all! I was surprised to see so many negative reviews, because honestly, this is the best foundation I have used in a long time. I have fairly light skin (Bobbi Brown Warm Sand) and had to go into the light/medium tones to get a match. All in all, I think this is a very good foundation and I would definitely recommend it!
Definitely my favorite foundation 5
crimson_tide07 from Bellevue, WA
My favorite foundation of all time!! great coverage. very flawless. If you want less cakey, give your face time to produce the oils to have a more smooth setting and use a setting spray or put on moisturizers before putting on your make up. it happens with all foundations.
Full coverage fantasy 5
Alexakrista from Las Vegas
Love this foundation. I tried the other version which doesn't have a matte finish and HATED it. It moves around your face and hardly offers any coverage so I went back to this. Every time I wear it I get complements. Even my male best friend asks to use it when we are together so he can spot correct. It blends so nicely you can't even tell he's wearing makeup. It really makes your skin look flawless and stays on well. The coverage is so good that you can even skip concealer (in my opinion) when you're not looking to do a "full face" of makeup. Love love love it.
MY favorite 5

This is my favorite foundation. I have combination normal to oily skin; a little goes a llllloooonnngggg way. I literally use one pump dot forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin, then blend with damp beauty blender. My skin also not perfect, big pores, acne scars, and discoloration but again… it does a beautiful job. I don't expect this to make me look flawless, but between this and my Juno Co primer my skin looks amazing .
fantastic coverage! 5

Best foundation I've ever used. I have dry skin so I moisturize first then apply after five minutes. It covers my spots and undereye circles. I love this stuff!
It's okay… pretty cakey 3
HTay from Texas
It was a good coverage level, but it caked on to dry skin or any acne
not for me 3
Dana D from charleston, sc
I though I had the wrong color so I exchanged for another. however, the color still looked terrible and patchy. worse was how heavy it felt. I really wanted to love this foundation but it is a no from me.
UPDATE 1
Sara from FL
Gave it four stars at first and said it was good but oily but NOW this foundation does work well with dry skin it just starts separating and peels off badly !! Looks great when applying and all but I don't know just didn't work for me!! Don't let my review of it change yours by wanting to try it out!! Your thoughts may be different from mine .
Not for me 2
Jasmyn from South Dakota
I wanted to love this foundation, and was simply disappointed in the end. I let myself try it out for a few days thinking the first day it wasn't wearing well from my application or primer. In the end this was simply not for me, it became patchy in my t-zone and was uncomfortable on the face feeling somewhat heavy. I would not recommend this for combo oily skin, with pores. I will be returning.
Def full coverage 2
Booklover81 from Illinois
if you want a full coverage foundation, this is it. You don't even need a lot because it's very thick and Cakey. One small pump is enough to do my whole face. It does get dry on my face. I haven't had much luck with Tarte foundations.

This is my all time favorite foundation. I've never had anything work like this and I've bought cheap and expensive. It works for my skin. Hides my flaws. Leaves my skin smooth. I will buy again and a again.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! 1
Farheen from IL
This foundation DOES NOT LAST long, it's so thick. after 2 hours of wearing it, it separates so bad on the skin, especially on acne. Creases very bad, coverage is great but this is just cakey and not a flawless look
Thick as Glue 3
Bobbie from Thornton CO
This makeup is thick as glue and hard to spread. If you think you're going to dot it on all over then blend with a sponge, think again. It sets fast. I tried everything; doe foot foundation brush, reg. foundation brush, fingers, sponge...the best application is a flat head kabuki foundation brush starting at your forehead and T-zone spreading out quickly as possible one area at a time with light swirling then very short strokes followed by stippling. Do NOT use a primer, just moisturizer or you will never get it to blend. Set with a very fine milled WHITE translucent setting powder and BIG fluffy powder brush using patting motion or it will grab the foundation and gum up your powder brush. Using anything else will add color and thickness like spackle.
Going back to my Revlon Colorstay Matte.
Dry skin types- RUN 3
Desert Rat from CA
I wanted something that could conceal my pinky pigmentation and it does that job great. But I hate how this looks on dry skin. I live in Phoenix (dry climate) and I have dry skin type. So this was a no go for me. If I still lived in NC where it gets swampy outside, this may have worked better for me! Coverage was great. But my skin looked old n crusty by the end of the day. :(
Finally found a foundation that matches! 5
x_StrawberrySoda_x from California
I tried so many drugstore and other high end foundations and everything is so off. But this foundation in "27S Light-Medium Sand" is very close! In some lighting, it appears a tad too pink for me, it's barely noticeable. And as for the foundation itself, it is full coverage and easy to blend! It does get all shiny after 10 hours without blotting or applying powder, but that happens with every foundation I use since I have extremely oily skin. I also love how it has the type of pump that rises up the more you use it, so that when you use it up, you'll have a clean bottle. More foundations should come with this type of pump so that we don't waste product!
Terrible 1
Jenjo82 from Weed, Ca
Tarte completely missed the mark on this one. It's cakey and barely lasts 8hrs.
Beautiful coverage! 5
Amanda from USA
I was a longtime hardcore fan of Clinique foundation and decided to try something new and this product did not disappoint!! I'm so glad I switched!! It gives excellent full coverage and gives you a beautiful complexion!! I look fantastic when I wear this! It gives me a flawless look even when I have blemishes. I highly recommend this foundation!
Flawless Skin 5
Skin for the Win from Houston, TX
When I wear this foundation people frequently tell me my skin looks "flawless," and ask which products I use. I never need concealer - this stuff is totally opaque.
I apply moisturizer (wait 5 mins) and wipe it off. Then apply product to face with fingers (making sure to blend in where it creases - this is a must). I use a big brush to apply Anastasia setting powder over the foundation (helps foundation stay on and reduces impact from sweating). Finally, contour with bronzer, adding a little bronzer on eyelids.
Pointer: 1. Apply less product (or remove later) where eyeliner would be placed (unless adding eyeshadow or eyeliner there) to avoid looking like you're wearing a mask or skin suit. 2. I have found that this product does not play well with other liquid products (e.g., primers and oily moisturizers). 3. The product does transfer (be careful when hugging) but will not affect the way your makeup looks.
I would not buy this again! 1
lisa from lacey, wa
Honestly ulta has bad foudnation options. I was hoping this would work for me, and it didn't. It's too thick, and it doesn't blend well, even with using a high end beauty blender and primer. I also don't like how it doesn't already have sunscreen in it.
Ehh 2
Doll from Phoenix, AZ
I use this on the daily for going out and going to work. I had received a sample of this in a color that matched me quite well (I was buying some that were a bit too fair, and it allowed me to embrace my natural color). I like that it's full coverage and a little goes a long way; however, after just a couple of hours I tend to get a sticky and oily texture despite using powder to set. It goes on great at first and looks smooth, but by the end of the day it looks cakey on me. I have normal skin and I tend to go for matte/satin foundations, and over time this foundation just didn't cut it for me anymore. I live in AZ, so humidity wasn't a factor here.
I love the full coverage 5
Megs from Easley, SC
This is my first time buying this product and I love it. I love the full coverage it provides and it leaves me matte all day.
