Has this product been tested by Paul Mitchell as a leave-in conditioner? There are many African American women using this product as a leave in because it really adds moisture and makes detangling easier. However, I notice it has sodium hydroxide as an ingredient. Is that the same thing as lye? If so, is it SAFE for African American hair to use this as a leave in?

Worst conditioner I've ever used
Hair Type Straight Hair
I have thick fine hair and usually use The Conditioner for color treated hair but Ulta was out. So I thought I would try this Detandler conditioner. It is horrible. My hair turns into a mat that I can't work my fingers through much less a comb. My hair feels squeaky clean and I have to rip the comb through it literally breaking hair. I have no idea why it is called a detangler. The new packaging had me worried that my favorite PM conditioner had been discontinued. Alas my hairdresser found it at her beauty supply store. Thank goodness. Now I have my mono back and am able to comb thru hair again. I would not recommend this product.

Have used for many years in lieu of conditioner. It is an essential for me. I might add packaging changes not necessary. Manufacturing staff need to ensure products can be used easily by all age groups and abilities. Regardless, I like it so much, will continue to use!

I found this detangler to be pretty good. From a week in the sun I needed a product to help restore moisture. This one did it for me. It didn't feel as silky once I rinsed it out if that is what you are looking for, which I did.

Product has a light and fresh clean scent. Size of the bottle is on the smaller side but is nice because a little product goes a long way. Consistency of conditioner is not runny and is nice and creamy. I have used this a few times now on my thicker hair and the moisture leaves my hair feeling very soft throughout the day without an oily scalp.
