I give it 5 stars! Wow I'm glad I did not read the reviews before purchasing as I would have been skeptical. The older formula did not work for me as I need full coverage for my melasma. This gives me my full coverage WITHOUGHT having to layer it on. It really looks very nice and as skin like as pos...sible when wearing full coverage trying to cover what I have! I say little is more. Start off using the minimal and build up only where needed either with the foundation or with a concealer. Depending on your skin type, you need to prep accordingly. I notice if I prep skin with a glossy hydrating moisturizer it will look less matte, but never oily. If I use a not so hydrating moisturizer it looks matte but not drying. I do not go heavy. I go in directly with the Tarte plastic tube and just squeeze a tad on my cheeks, forehead and chin straight from the tube. Since I require full coverage I use a flat dense kubuki brush to pat it in all over my face....not smearing but stipulating it all in and whatever is not covered I put a dab more on those areas. I find that I really do not need to set it if its a nice not so hot and humid day, but when the weather is hot and muggy, I just lightly set it with a light weight and non drying loose setting powder (initials HG) and it really locks in the fresh look I have for HOURS...like 16 hrs! I do apply my loose powder differently then most as I get a nice non heavy no powder look the way I do it. I use a RT (look up initals) ORANGE sponge and lightly spray it with my DB (look up initials) setting spray and then dip the flat part of the sponge in the HG loose powder and stipple it all over my face. I just press and pounce the powder all in (no need to cover the entire flat part of the sponge, only a little is needed) and I use the pointy part of the sponge for my under eyes (also spraying the sponge prior). I tell you I really like this foundation alot. 42N matches my skin color and tone to the T, blurs my pores (but they are still visible) and makes my makeup look as natural as possible but still meets my needs. It starts off as full coverage. For most people building it up will not be necessary. I'm a Medium Tan Sand in the Tarte Loose Powder Foundation. In the Shape Tape concealer, the color Tan matches my face. In the Shape Tape concealer for my under eyes Medium works. Hopefully referencing will help someone decide what color works for them. I have light tan neutral skin with black hair and dark brown eyes.
