Most Helpful Positive Review Pretty Good Stuff It shouldn't be hard to find a decent high SPF mineral lip balm, but I looked high and low before stumbling onto this one. The few I found that weren't chemical SPF were drying, gritty, super expensive and / or tinted (that last one can be a plus or a minus).
This lip balm is simple in both form and function. It delivers both mineral SPF and moisturizer. It smells pleasant, like coconut and mango but not cloying or overpowering. Basically, it does what it's supposed to do.
I particularly like its texture on the lips, which is smooth and non-tacky. It doesn't feel like you just applied fly tape to your lips. The first couple of uses there was a tiny bit of grit, which is typical of mineral sunscreens. It quickly melted, and after that it wasn't an issue. I don't notice any white cast unless I really pile it on. It's a good one to wear either on its own or under lipstick. It's easy on your wallet too.
The two complaints I have are fairly minor. It doesn't last all that long before it disappears into my lips. Maybe a couple of hours. However... you're supposed to apply sunscreen every couple of hours, so that's not exactly a dealbreaker. The other is that I could use more hydration. My lips are like the Atacama Desert, which might be why it doesn't stay around. Keeping in mind once again that this is primarily a sunscreen, I'm not shattered over that either. When I am at home or at night I can use something more hydrating. No biggie.
A major plus for my husband who also suffers from dry lips (and whom I have trouble convincing to wear sunscreen of any sort) is that he can pilfer these lip balms from my stash and not have to carry a screaming pink floral- or strawberry bubblegum-scented lippie into the machine shop. I bought extras for just that reason. The packaging is plain and the scent is gender neutral, so feel free to share the love.
Most Helpful Critical Review Super drying "balm" Read a sponsored review so I purchased this balm. It is super drying and makes your lips crack and red. I used it for 2 days thinking that maybe my lips were just overly dry and I needed to reapply....I usually use Soft lips or Aquafor. I had to use Aquafor on my lips for 3 additional applications over the next week to get my lips soft and supple again....they hurt and were red just from a few days of use.

I've tried them all. Bum is the best for me by far!
that taste!!! 2

I liked the feel of this lip balm but the taste was nauseating. great moisture even after immediately wiping it off with my hand. It was the first balm I've tried with mineral sunscreen in it so I'm not sure if this taste just comes with the territory, but I had to throw it away after first use.
An okay product, but needs to be doubled up. 3

I love the smell of this and how nicely the balm melts and glides onto your lips. Also appreciate that it has SPF. The reason why I give it 3/5 though is because it does not keep your lips moisturized for long. As mentioned, it glides on lips so well but after 15-20 minutes, I notice my lips get dry again and I'd have to reapply. I spent a day with this and noticed my self constantly re-applying because it wasn't as moisturizing. I would say maybe use this for SPF and another chapstick for moisture?
Worth It. Best lip SPF! 5

Sun Bum has really created something special here and I highly recommend it. This product is an amazing lip SPF. I wanted to get their mineral lip over their chemical lip SPF after some research about the impact chemical SPFs have on the ocean. Zinc can often get demonized because of a "white cast" but this isn't the case here. There is the FAINTEST hint of a white and iridescent cast when you first apply it but if you smack your lips together it disappear. If you over apply it, there will be a little more cast but seriously, THE CAST FADES! You just have to dab it on or smack your lips together and it's gone in an instant. That's what most people don't realize about zinc formulas. You need to rub them together and then apply to deactivate that white case. Oh and the smell?! Like summer and bananas rolled into a tube! Smells amazing. And the ingredients include sweet almond oil right at the top of the list, which means it's formulated in high concentration. So it's super hydrating. Not dry like Fresh lip SPFs and others I've tried. I've brought another for backup and my purse. As I said before, Sun Bum has really created something special here and I highly recommend it.
Great formula but I'm allergic 3

I liked the smooth formula of this mineral lip balm. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to something in it & experienced burning & a swollen bottom lip. I have rosacea & many sensitivities.
Stay on well 5

I wore this for about 2 hours paddle boarding, through water and sweat it stayed on. It goes on white and has a white sheer to it on your lips.

I've never had a lip sunscreen I could call pleasant before. The chemical ones always taste like sunscreen and the mineral ones have always been chalky and gross. This one is FREAKING AMAZINGGGGG! It smells like the old Hawaiian Tropic tanning lotion...that ubiquitous "beach" scent...and it doesn't leave even a hint of white. AND it's super moisturizing which I've never ever had from a sunscreen balm before! I also tend to react to minerals due to cross reaction with my severe nickel allergy, so I only bought one to try. I loved it so much I bought more to stash all around.
Doesn't taste like sunscreen 5

The only spf lip balm that doesn't leave that unpleasant chemical sunscreen aftertaste.
The tint is so light that it is almost nonexistent. 3

Use it as daily neck and facial sunscreen
Great Product for the Price 4
Beauty Lover from SC
The texture is gritty (not smooth at all) and it is not very moisturizing, but it works well under lipstick or another lip blam. If you're just looking for natural sun protection and don't want to spend much money, this is a good inexpensive option.
Great balm 5
AK07 from NY
Great so far. It's long lasting and not drying. It does have a slightly white look when applied, but it's not that noticeable. It's a physical sunscreen, so the whiteness is expected. Just layer it on top of any other colored balm.
not good 1

Just okay 3

Leaves a white cast on lips which is expected with mineral sunscreen but wish it wasnt such an opaque white. Does smell good like coconut & bananas. Overall pretty moisturizing but kinda gritty when applying.

I used this lip balm all week in Florida in the hot sun, in the water of the pool and the ocean and it kept my lips moisturized and protected from the sun! Great product!

Great Lip Balm 5

I have always used a lip balm with sunscreen. I bought this and flavored Sun Bum lip balm. While the flavored one smells great, it was drying. I love this mineral SPF one. It goes on clear. It is smooth.
Love mineral SPF lip balms. I want the tint! 5
Kristina from Philly, PA
I love the tint that mineral spf gives to my lips! It smooths them out and makes them appear softer. I always liked a more natural 'light nude' look on my lips but I don't wear lip stick or colored lip gloss or anything like that. So I stick to lip balms just to keep my lips healthy. I love mineral spf everything, especially in my lip balms to get the desired look AND protection.
