Most Helpful Positive Review Perfect for my extremely dry skin! Not for oily!
I bought this primer because I have extremely dry skin and I was looking for a nice hydrating drug store primer. I have no clue what it is, but ever since I started using this primer and the Smashbox Primer Water (which I just recently repurchased after the 21 days of beauty sale) my foundation has looked FLAWLESS! It's crazy! I went from having horrible dry patches and literally looking crusty lmao to looking super luminous and healthy! It is pretty oily so I wouldn't recommend for anyone other than dry skin.
Most Helpful Critical Review Whipped Vaseline: Greasy and Destroys Makeup
I have very dry skin, especially on my nose. After seeing reviews I thought this would be a miracle product. Far from it. Its like whipped Vaseline. One pump and it covers your whole face, neck, and somehow even the lips. Like a grease film. Yuck... After I finish doing my makeup, even after applying powder and setting spray, THIS primer makes my makeup SLIDE around. I can take my finger and literally wipe away my entire eyebrow or eyeliner from how greasy this product is. I shouldn't be afraid of wiping off my makeup in the middle of the day by accident; especially when before I used this my makeup would be bulletproof stuck on my face. I'll stick to applying eczema lotion to my face every night before bed., that alone works okay for me. I'm just sad that I had hopes for this product when ELF is usually amazing beyond expectations.

This always made my foundation slip off and I have very dry skin. Breaks up, turns into chunky jelly. Instant return
This product sucks!!!!!!!!!!! It smells disgusting

Dont buy this product, you can buy a better face primer at the same price. Save your money!
Not worth it

It does nothing and just smells like old olive oil!

This smells absolutely disgusting.

I put this on before my foundation and it's not greasy, its smooth and I would recommend this product.
Ashley from TX
I really like this primer. It works really well in smoothing out my skin and helping create an even canvas to put my makeup on. For the price, this is a must-have now. It reminds me a lot of another primer I have, which I spent a ton for.
Do not purchase!

This was super tacky and had a horrible smell. J got a second one thinking I got a bad one and it was the same thing. Not a great one but at least it works.

allows for very smooth makeup application
Made My Dry Skin Oily
Calista from Oregon
I have dry skin and i was super excited to try this because I've been needing a primer to help make my makeup less cakey, however, this did not work. The texture of this is similar to vaseline and it smells much worse. This didn't make my makeup slip and slide like some others, but it made it oily for once. I noticed a lot new breakouts and I was upset about it. My skin has always been dry and my skin was oily for a while after.

This primer has the weirdest smell and feel to it. It feels slippery and waxy once you put it on. It just has a terrible feel to it! It also smells like pee so that's extremely gross! Would not recommend!!!!!
DEFINITELY ONLY FOR *DRY* SKIN
MandiJayOkay from Okc
I just purchased this because I have very dry skin! It stinks very much but it goes away. It helps me a lot and makes my foundation look more natural. The consistency is very greasy. But does hydrate dry skin.

I have dry sensitive skin and was so excited to try it that I bought it twice. But each time I could not get past the smell! This smells like a tire factory and a methane gas plant had a baby! I thought that I'd just got a bad batch so I waited a couple of weeks and went to an entirely different chain to buy it again. Only to find that's just how it smells. So if you trust putting such strong smelling unnatural chemicals on your skin go for it I guess.
**McDonalds fryer oil—DON'T waste your money!!**
Ashley from Kansas City, MO
I kept my makeup in a shoebox and somehow it miraculously disappeared, so I was on the hunt for a cheap primer as I had to replace all my makeup. This primer is like putting fryer oil on your face. First time I tried it, I did 2 pumps as I was expecting it to be more like lotion. Definitely not the case. The next day I used 1 pump and still managed to cover my whole face, neck, and everything else. Over the next 2 days, I used 1/3-1/2 pump. And even with this minimal amount, my makeup still did not stay on and would wipe right off. I am usually pleased with elf products as they are wallet friendly for a great product, but this was a complete waste. I have dry skin and this was absolutely terrible. I have since then bought the elf primer putty and am absolutely in love with it!
too oily even for dry combo skin

felt ok on skin but smells BAD and makes me oily and I have combo skin on the dry side. would not recommend.

This really caught me by surprised and I absolutely love it. It's very hydrating and my skin feels such a relief. This is strictly made for dry skin and I would only recommend it for that.
Chelsea DJ from Beaverton, OR
I love how effective this primer is. The comments about it being akin to Vaseline, are silly to an extent but it is hydrating and very silicone like. I've tried MANY primers and this has proved to be the best for me.
This was my saving grace!

**This is for people who have extremely dry skin**.
No matter was foundation I used it always looked cake-y cause of my dry skin. This product has saved my face and my $$. I've used other primers to combat my dry skin and nothing had ever helped. This product covers my face evenly, and when I put on liquid foundation, it glides on smooth. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ it. In other reviews, someone complained about a rubbery smell. I smell nothing. There's no smell.

- cruelty free
- Didn't react poorly with my skin or skin care products
- Made my makeup slip and slide everywhere.
Keep in mind this is for those with VERY dry skin.

I suffer from many health issues which leave my skin very dry and irritated. Everytime I try a product it makes me break out, burn, or just dries me out more. This has made it impossible to wear my makeup out and feel confident that it looks okay. Since using this item my skin is so much better, and YES it is a product that feels a lot like oil but does not stay oily on the skin first those who use it properly and have dry skin. I am finally able to look at my natural skin and not see dry flaking skin. Not only has it helped with being able to wear makeup but it helps with my skin as a whole. This for me is a must!
I like this

It makes my face soft. It helps for dry skin
only primer that doesn't cling to my dry patches
Emily F. from Georgia
I use prescription topicals and have very patchy, dry, irritated skin from it. This is makes it so that I can use my beloved mineral powder foundation again! I do let the primer "set" for a few minutes while I do my hair before putting any other makeup on top of it, which helps with the greasiness other reviewers have mentioned. Once it settles it is a divine barrier for sensitive and dry skin. Also I did not notice any weird smell, but fragrance and botanical oils are highly irritating anyway so I'm glad it's not delicious smelling.
For very dry skin, this is a godsend!
ScruffDaPup from Lexington, KY
Ok, boys and girls, this is what you must know: THIS IS AN OIL PRIMER ! This is for when you have tired winter skin that no amount of prep will save. When your skin is sucking up all of your foundation and cracking it up because it gets so dry throughout the day. It only takes a very small amount. I have also used it OVER foundations that get too dry at the end of the day. I have mixed it with matte longwearing foundations that my arid skin would devour within an hour of application. It won't help keep foundations from sliding off and it won't help oily girls with anything, but it will help preserve a foundation's nice finish if winter dry air is having it's way with you. You can also put it (lightly) over anywhere (lines) your foundation is cracking or looking patchy. Excellent versatile product that has lots of uses!
P.S. No, it doesn't smell girly. But that lack of fragrance is what makes it extremely hypoallergenic. Thank you Elf for erring on the side of what's best for our skin!

blended out okay, but has an AWFUL smell and is so oily
I wouldn't ever use this again
Leablaze from Brunswick ga
I love elf but this is literally one of the worst primers I've ever felt, would not ever put that on anyone's skin. It smells exactly like cooking oil. There's no way that could be good for anyone's skin.
NOPE. NOPE. AND NOPE.
Nia from Somewhere in the US
BOYYYYY oh boy oh boy oh boy oh BOY. So to start off the primer is okay. It does help keep my makeup in place - I've worn it for 11 hours straight with no problems. One star for that. HOWEVER... that's basically all that's good about this primer. It has an awful rubbery smell that I absolutely cannot stand (mind you I'm not sensitive to fragrances). It also feels extremely greasy when applying and leaves a film on your fingers. ALSO... THIS CONTAINER IS NOT A FULL OUNCE. The container LOOKS full, but after noticing that the packaging stated that there were 0.47 ounces I opened up the container and... sure enough there was only HALF OF THE AMOUNT OF PRODUCT THAT THERE APPEARS TO BE. THE CONTAINER IS DECEIVING AND MAKES IT LOOK LIKE THERE IS MORE PRODUCT THAN THERE REALLY IS. I do not recommend this primer - I actually grabbed this by accident and meant to grab the E.L.F soothing face primer. After the size mishap I am never buying another E.L.F primer (at least not the ones in this type of container). I'm going to try the Milani Prime Light or Pacifica Crystal primers next - but this is definitely not going to be a repurchase, even though it helps my makeup last.
