Most Helpful Positive Review Seems to work
I really hesitated to buy this because of the price and I wasn't sure how it would work but Ulta has such a libral return policy I thought I would try it. I used this when my hair had a lot of gray roots and I should have been using a box color like I usually do so this was a pretty tough test of the product. I washed my hair first and then applied the "stain". I used a lot it seemed and concentrated on my most gray areas. I left it in 2 hours because I wanted maximum color. My hands were stained with the warm brown color and did not come clean with soap and water. I used sink cleaner with bleach and it took the stain right off. I rinsed the product out after 2 hours (cleaned my house while it was processing), applied my normal stying products and blow dried my hair. My hair is very thick and coarse and does not usually hold color well. My hair came out feeling very silky and soft. I could tell a difference in color too. My hair seemed more of a rich tone. I would say this product is like a deep conditioner with a color stain. It did not totally cover my gray but blended it pretty well. Not sure how long it will last as I just used this product.
Most Helpful Critical Review Does not work!
Discovered this at Ulta by accident. I was excited about this product. I'm getting tired of root touch ups every 2 weeks. Well it did nothing. I left it on for 40 mins. As I was waiting, it looked like my roots were turning golden brown. I needed darker, but I would have been fine with it. Washed it out and was really disappointed. Did NOTHING!!! Returning!!!

Product was okay my hair looked blotchy and color didn't look even
Very Drying, Frizzy Mess
Bridget from New York
I was hoping to get something that would give my (dyed) dirty brunette tailbone-length hair a little extra shine for a photoshoot, so I picked up the sheer version. Instead, it totally dried out my locks. I've never seen my hair so frizzy! The ends are almost crunchy, and it's even duller than when I just use my regular shampoo and conditioner. Dull, dry, frizzy nightmare. Avoid!
Not black, but did tone and add shine
El from Maryland
I have naturally very dark brown hair that was fading a little bit and pulling a little too red. I got the black gloss to tone the red and make my hair overall darker. I used this on dry hair for 25 minutes. It was definitely messy to apply and took a decent amount of product but I expected that because my hair is very thick and about waist length. It gets on the shower tub a little bit but it's easy to wash off with water. The color payoff was ok, I could see a difference and it was less orange and a little bit darker, but DEFINITELY not black. It did the job for me, but if you want a deep dark black, this didn't do the trick. It might be darker if I had left it on longer, so if you really want to try this and see intense results, maybe leave it on for an hour or so. My hair does seem pretty shiny. I also didn't love the smell, and I'm not particularly picky about fragrances usually. Make sure to use the gloves and wash any spots off your neck too!
If you're looking for natural red, do NOT choose Copper
Amber from Kentucky
While my hair feels amazing and looks shiny, Copper was definitely not the right choice for me. I was looking for something to help maintain a natural-looking red in between salon visits. I look like a firetruck. I'll give Strawberry a try next time.
Worth the money!
MiaN from Kansas City
I have dark brown hair and like it darker and this is great product to use instead of dying it. It also leaves my hair so soft and healthy feeling. I have recommended this to everyone because I think so highly of it.
Not true to color
Melodi from Arlington, TX
I bought the dark brown to make my brown hair darker. I left it in for the full 20 mins into freshly clean, damp hair. After my hair fully air dryed I compared it to my pictures in the exact same light. It is glossier and for some reason it is redder. No hint of darkening.
Toned Down Highlights
Jayne from Charlotte, NC
Love this product! I got highlights done on my dark brown (permanently dyed) hair and they came out way too orange and brassy. I applied this product to damp hair and let it sit for 20 minutes then washed out. I realized some pieces weren't completely covered so I went in for another 20 min application making sure to saturate my roots. The results were great! It toned my highlights to a nice auburn shade and made my already dark hair shiny and looking refreshed. I used the dark brown gloss and still have about 3/4 of the bottle after applying on medium length hair. It also made my highlighted hair feel so much healthier and smooth.
Medium brown was perfect! Great results.
Erica from Kentucky
I used the medium brown and left on towel dried hair for 25 mins then rinsed. Left hair silky and healthy. I will use this in between Color treatments. It adds depth and shine to my color treated neutral medium/dark brown hair and makes the color more vibrant. It didn't take as well to my natural blonde roots but did help blend them in.
I love it!
laulau from IL
If you crave the thrill of dying your own hair on a whim but are worried about difficult application/risk of damage then this is the stuff for you (I've typically used henna but won't go back after using this) It has little/no smell, short and easy application, leaves a pretty accurate color to what you see on the chart if left on long enough, and the color stays in your hair if you wash it with color safe shampoo! Best of all is the SHINE it gives your hair, even if you don't want color just get this as a conditioner because it is beautiful.
Notes: I have very fine, straight light brown hair. I used the dark brown dye and I did two applications to get rid of any brassy/red tones. Your hair will likely turn red before going to brown if it's a light color so don't be afraid to let it sit for the full 20 mins and do two rounds of color!
Amazing - covers up grown out balayage!!! + ultimate shine
Jess from San Jose, CA
I'm a natural level 4 and my balayage was so grown out. I had previously went to a hair stylist to tone my hair darker because it was so grown out and I couldn't justify spending $100 to tone it darker and I didn't want to put my hair through more color and damaging it. I decided to try the dark brown gloss on my ends to cover up the blonde and it worked perfectly!! Yes, my ends absorbed the color right up so my ends were darker than my roots but this is perfect if you don't want to continue chemically damaging your hair and want to cover up bleach. ALSO this brings ultimate shine. 10/10 recommend
Not worth the price
Jency from Texas
No shine just color and no deep conditioning, it actually left my hair feeling so dry and looking dull after my hair dried. Only worth it if you use it as color depositing conditioner EVERY time you wash. I've bought 3 colors, the first washed out quickly, luckily i had made an appointment at a salon just as fast. The second and third time (used them at the same time different sides of my hair), I tried to wait for the water to run clear, as you do with any hair coloring item, but it never did. By the time i was out the shower after my second wash, my hair was almost back to what it looked like before i used it. Will not buy again, ion semi permanent is a quarter the price and leaves my hair feeling happy and healthy.
Best hair gloss I've ever used
Jaime from Connecticut
Hands down - this beats any other hair gloss I've ever used (Amika shine mask, John Frieda, etc). I have dark brown hair and it was getting dull this winter. This gave it an INCREDIBLE shine and only a hint of richer color. Will recommend to any of my friends with dark brown hair.
Not for my gray hair
Petite A from Houston
I bought this to cover my gray hairs. Unfortunately it didn't cover mine. I have naturally medium-dark brown hair.
The dye did not have a strong smell like most dyes. However it didn't help my gray stands.
redstyleguide from San Francisco
I recently had balayage and it was too blonde. My hair is reddish with caramel colors, blonde and strawberry. I used the strawberry blonde and it toned the blonde PERFECTLY. Added incredible shine and boosted the red, but naturally so. Being a life long redhead, I have had so many salon mistakes on the color side, that I'm just shocked to have found a near perfect color in a bottle.

This works just as it says. Lifesaver to grayish color gray. Great color toner and conditioner!
HaileyMNRN from Pewaukee, Wi
I used this before showering, left it on for only about 5 minutes because I was nervous about how the color would turn out— I thought hey if I like it at 5 minutes I can always leave it on longer next time. There will be no next time, it turned my hair a really unflattering orangey brown and was very streaky despite my very careful application. I will definitely be returning this.
perfect for redheads
Elise from San Bernadino
I recently went back to red and only wash my hair 2x a week. this treatment is PERFECT for maintaining red hair colors!!!! its been 2 months since I got my hair done and my color is still a deep red because I use this every other wash. WARNING IT WILL STAIN CLOTHES AND SKIN AFTER HAIR IS DRIED. it leaves a pigment like purple or blue hair dye.
It adds color not condition
Kassbene30 from Bronx, NY
These product really works. I use a plastic cap I leave the product on for 20 minutes under dryer. After that I rinse it out. After that I use my detangling conditioner.
Totally worth it

Dark Brown turn my natural dark but dull hair the dark brown and glossy! Love it
do not use!!!
Olivia from Baton Rouge
I have damaged hair that does not hold onto color well, so I got this to use for in between washes and it damaged my hair even more..
Not worth it
Queen from Pa
I have platinum hair and the light blonde had no visible affect. I don't think it was really shiner or softer. It's way too expensive. You can buy 3 ion semi permanents for this price and get a better result. Did no harm. Basically was like conditioner.
The best for a believable red
Junebug from Michigan
I see a lot of the negative reviews are people trying to use this on virgin hair. This type of coloring works best on previously dyed or bleached hair. You can leave cheap shampoo sit on just the virgin hair to open up cuticles if looking to blend between salon visits. For home colorists you can open them with a hair color toner treatment, too. I use a few pumps of the strawberry in a handfull of conditioner on my waist length hair to give a believable red better than the salon. Sometimes I add a pump of the copper to make it a bit redder. Have not been to a salon in well over a year and get complements.
Conditioning - but blondes beware of copper!!
Lynsey from Madison, WI
Very conditioning my hair feels soft and hydrated. I bought the copper - I'm a natural strawberry blonde and was looking to enhance the copper tones in my hair. It turned it BRIGHT red. It's fine because it will fade and I'm not going anywhere, but it is not subtle. I would buy again, but in clear next time.
No glass effect
Charl from Albuquerque
I used this hoping for some shine. Left it on 20 minutes and my hair turned very dry and no shine really. Some color coating. Disappointed.
I will but this again, I just wish...
lahairoi from Ar;ington, Texas
I bought this to help "hide" my hair hair since my hair appointment was still a week away. It did not cover it, but it was definitely less noticeable.
