Comments about L'Oréal Root Cover Up:

For my Halloween costume I needed to make my hair from light brown to dark brown. One year I went with a "temporary" hair dye that ended up lasting for months. I did not want to do that again so started looking into temporary options. I decided to use this product to spray all of my hair to make it darker. I have shoulder length hair which is relatively thin, but I have a lot of it. I used the entire can to get the look that I desired, but it looked perfect! The product itself would stain my fingers throughout the night (but it was also raining so it could have something to do with that), and completely washed out in the morning! I would recommend using this method for a very temporary hair dye without any commitment.

Does a good job if you are in between coloring, and need a quick touch up especially if you're getting that skunk line. I bought another product that was over twice as expensive and didn't work as well. Also had my hair stylist try it on me and she was impressed. So a great product at a great price.

Comments about L'Oréal Root Cover Up:

If I could give this product zero stars I would. I realize it's for gray coverage, but I used the blond spray on my bangs to do a "Ginger Spice" look for Halloween. For one, hardly any color was distributed. Spots of yellow came out intermittently, but when I tried to brush my hair through, the color would dissipate. Once it dried, it was impossible to put a brush through my hair. It was like a sticky, dry, straw-like feeling. I didn't have time to redo my hair, so I left it in. 2 days later, I washed my hair and it was so tough to get out. I washed my hair 3 times with shampoo, even used apple cider vinegar to strip any residue. It's out for the most part, but I could tell the rest of my hair felt normal and soft. Hoping it feels better when my hair dries. Also, I really didn't like how this product kinda froze the scalp- almost like freezing off a wart or something. It hurt when I sprayed it near my scalp, which is odd bc 'root cover up' would require it to be sprayed close to the root.

We used the Magic Root Touch Up to darken my son's hair for Halloween because it said that it washed out in one shampoo. He showered this evening and shampooed twice with almost no change. Is there something you recommend to get the color out of his hair? He's blonde and we used the medium brown.

                      Thank you for your help.

Does L'Oreall root cover-up cover dark color roots? I have darker hair and I color it blond with highlights and my roots come out dark -this L'Oreal product is marketed for gray roots growing out here and I don't have gray hair just dark colored roots- will it work on hair that is not gray but just dark roots in between highlights and coloring ?

Hello Martinigirl! Unfortunately, Root Cover Up in a blonde shade will not cover up dark brown roots. It is made to cover gray or white hair. We have a permanent haircolor product called Root Rescue for root touch-ups, but it is not going to be able to lift a dark brown to a blonde shade. You would need bleach to do that. Thank you for your question!

Hi, Danielle! Since the Root Cover Up is temporary, you can always remove the product with a wet towel. If you are more susceptible to staining, we recommend applying a light layer of petroleum jelly around the hairline and at the nape of the neck to easily wipe any stain. We also recommend spraying at least 4-6 inches away from the scalp and if you apply in layers, wait a few minutes for the product to dry before applying another layer. Once you applied the product, brush out any excess. We hope this helps!

Hello! We are sorry you are experiencing a buildup of Root Cover Up. Although we have not tested any of our shampoos to remove buildup specifically, Root Cover Up shouldn't be difficult to remove as long as you are thoroughly washing it out each time after use. We recommend leaving a shampoo on your scalp for a few minutes before rinsing! We hope this helps!
