Most Helpful Positive Review Amazing!
I have VERY coarse, thick dry hair that gets frizzy easily. I read reviews about this flat iron and decided I just HAD to try it. I walked into Ulta with a mission.....walking directly to the flat irons and searching for the GHD platinum pro. I initially couldn't find it and asked a store manager if she could help me locate it. She found it for me, but said something that really took me by surprise. She said "this is a good flat iron, but do you want to save some money? I would buy the Drybar flat iron instead. It's THE BEST". I was really shocked she recommended a flat iron that's literally half the price of the GHD. I figured she must be giving an honest opinion if she wasn't trying to sell a more expensive product. So then I was VERY indecisive and didn't know what to do. The Drybar flat iron is this bright highlighter yellow that isn't very appealing to the eye. But really all I care about is that it works well, so I looked past that. However, the raving reviews about the GHD iron was still in my head which really had me wanting to at least try it. So I did what I usually do in this situation. I bought BOTH to compare them over the next week or two. They told me it was perfectly fine to try them out and return the one I decided I didn't want. I got home and immediately wanted to try them out. So far (and this is only after one day of using them both) I would say they are both truly VERY good products. The GHD heats up in literally 10 seconds. I couldn't believe it! This thing just glides through your hair like butter! I love the way it feels in my hand and how well the plates hold on to my hair without snagging or pulling. It straightened my hair quickly and looked AMAZING after using it. And it felt really soft & healthier! I am IN LOVE with this flat iron! Although the other one works quite well also. So I'll have to update my review after using it a couple weeks. But so far the GHD is a winner in my book! It's pricey, but worth it!

I bought because it was the most expensive so I thought would be the best. The sedu and dry bar work faster. Took me so long to straighten my hair. The grip also hurt my fingers.

I have waist length, fine textured but very thick wavy hair and am experienced with flatironing. After hearing buzz about this tool and watching several online reviews, I decided to try it. It's fabulous. my hair is smooth and glossy without any product, and didn't get fried. I also didn't have to go over sections more than once, so it was faster than with the Chi iron I've been using for years. This is the best iron I've ever used, beats my beloved old Solano Sapphire and the Chi hands down. Heats up FAST and is also the only iron that can successfully curl my hair as well. Getting rid of my old standbys, this is the new standard.
THE straightener everyone needs
Aprmn from Saint Paul, MN
I use this most days just to fix flyaway hairs and weird cowlicks in my hair but it's also perfect for curling !
Returned my Dyson for this one and I'm IN LOVE

Very light and works WONDERS on my 3C curly hair.... tried the Dyson first and couldn't be happier to have exchanged it for this one.

If you're thinking about buying this straightener.. DO IT! It's a game changer. Well worth the money. I have very thick hair and it keeps my hair straight all day long.
I wouldn't buy this if you have really thick/curly hair
Katy from Atlanta, Ga
I have pretty thick and curly course hair. It's only an inch or 2 under my shoulder. It didn't take me more then hour or so to straighten my hair, but when I was finished I realized it didn't even do the job all the way. And I had to go through my hair pretty slow for it to actually do anything. For the price I expected a lot better. My bed head straightener I've had for about 10 years did a better job before it started dying.
Worth every penny

I normally don't post reviews, but this straightener is with every penny.. It heats up within seconds and straightened my curly thick hair seamlessly.. I only needed one pass thru.. I have tried Chi, BaBYliss and a few others and they don't even remotely compare to this one.. Highly recommend..
Breaks after a year

Keep your receipt, this is a good straightener until it breaks about a year this is the second I buy and will not buy another. It has a 3 year warranty keep your receipt and hope GHD sends you a new one. For the price I expect to last longer.

I was expecting this to be magical for the price, but it's nothing special. It works like any other GHD straighter. I only bought this one because Ulta's been out of the one I wanted which is half the price. Unfortunately, I will be returning as I can't justify spending this much to get the same results as a less expensive straightener.
Absolutely the best flat iron I've ever owned

I have been flattening my hair for dozens of years and have tried everything from the top of the line to hot tools, the Platinum GHD is the best, bar none. My hair looks and feels incredible!
Hot yo the touch
Astrid from GA
I bought this flat iron based on thousands of good reviews, I was counting down the days to be delivered and... I got it this morning and it disappointed me, I have wavy hair and it didn't straight my hair like my other flat iron (Sedu), the outside of this GHD gets extremely hot to the touch (I wonder if mine is defective), I tried to curl my hair (I'm an expert on making curls with a flat iron, I've done it a million times with my Sedu and my Babyliss) and I couldn't get a decent curl with this. I also noticed it pulls my hair a lot (that's the 2nd reason I think I might have gotten a defective one. .) .. I'm soooo confused! Where are all these good reviews coming from?!?!?!
Its ok not amazing

For the money you expect it to last longer after a less then a year of use it doesn't get as hot and the hair doesn't glide like when it was new. Same thing with the original.

I was very disappointed with this straightener. It was way too expensive and did not get my hair very straight. I did use it one day to put waves in my hair and it did look a little better than straight, but again it did not get hot enough to do much.
I love this flat iron
Queeny from Glendale,CA
You just have to wait till the flat iron beeps so you can start. With one pass it's almost straight. So I give it two passes to get my hair where I want it .

I do think my hair is healthier with this flat iron. I don't think it gets my hair any straighter, smothering, or sleeker than any other iron I have used. I wish it was a little more curved to make it easier to get closer to your root. I don't feel like it gets as hot as it says. But maybe that's a good thing for the sake of the health of my hair. It does heat up sooooo fast... like 30 seconds and it's ready to go. Which is incredible to me. I also love the automatic turn off feature and the rubber guard that it comes with so my kids don't grab it while it's hot. I'm happy with it, I'm not disappointed. Don't know if I would get another one when the time comes.
Worth The Money

I was hesitant to purchase this but when I was told I had 60 days to try it and return it, I figured there was nothing to lose. My hair feels healthier after only a week of using it. It makes my hair shine and my hair doesnt feel super hot after I use it compared to my old ceramic one. The 3 year warranty also gave me peace of mind.
Great Flat Iron

My favorite flat iron so far. Was able to style my thick frizzy hair in half the time as my old Chi.
Not worth the money.

I received this as a gift for Mother's Day. I had never heard of this straightener so when I looked into it I was kind of shocked by the price. I tried it out and thought it worked pretty well but I had already straightened my hair because I don't wash my hair every day due to it being dry and frizzy. When I did wash it and tried to straighten my hair with it, i found it took much longer than my straightener I normally use, L'ange Le Reve, which I love. This straightener also only has one setting where as most have multiple temperature settings. I'm sure if you have fine or medium hair and its not that frizzy and you don't have naturally curly hair this is probably a pretty decent straightener. However, if you have thick hair that is dry/frizzy and you have naturally curly/wavy hair, I would seriously recommend saving the money and purchasing a different straightener. The L'ange Le Reve is literally less than half the cost of this and does a much better job. Before I got my L'ange, I used to by the Conair Infiniti Pro which is a very affordable straightener and does a better job than this as well. I found myself having to make multiple passes with this straightener to get all of the frizz and waves out and had to do much smaller sections than i normally do.
Worth the money

I wasn't sure at first about getting it. I had a cheap flat iron and I was looking to getting a better one. Then I read reviews on the ghd and there was a fair amount of good and bad. I decided to give it a try and I'm so glad I did. It left my hair so silky and smooth even the next day. I didn't have that burn smelly scent my old one would leave. Overall I'm loving it and it was worth the price.
Skeptical at first
Bundysmom from Las vegas
I own the original 1" straightener before my bleaching days and it was fab on virgin hair. When I went from a level 2 to 10 in one session I wanted something that was specifically for my hair. I splurged on this and while it took time for me to get used to the results, years later I love this thing. Compared to my 1" straightener, this one is a lot less damaging and bc the heat is controlled at 365 degrees it doesn't damage my white silver strands like it's predecessor on my color treated hair with breakage and burning. I actually do 2 passes and the results are smooth, shiny, & soft. It heats up super fast & stays consistent. Easy to manipulate with my arthritic hands & I love the chord length, especially when travelled & the hotel plugs are in the wrong place.
Heats up fast, worth the Price
longhairdontcare from Maryland
I absolutely love this straightener. I thought I'd treat myself to a nice one, and chose this. There is only one button on this product, and it heats it up to the perfect temperature in like 8 seconds. High price tag for a high quality product you'll use for many many years.
Not worth the Money

I wouldn't recomend this product becuase other flat irons at a lower price work just as good or better in my opinon.. it worked.. but not the best for nice sleek straight hair.
Best Straightener I Have Ever Used
Rebecca from Indianapolis
I purchased this about a year ago after researching and reviewing many higher end straighteners. There was a bit of a sticker shock at first when deciding to buy GHD Platinum but it is worth every penny. My hair is so soft after using this. I do use a heat protectant on my hair that adds shine but this straightener makes my hair glossy and soft to the touch after one pass. I have thick hair and corse hair but it only takes me 15 minutes to get sleek/smooth hair. One of the best things about this tool though is how fast it heats up.
Not really for me
Christy from Indianapolis
I like the design and all but I dont like that it doesn't have a higher heat setting or that i cant change the setting and i have thick hair so it takes to long for me to straight or curl my hair. good product for thoes with thinner hair than mine. Sorry will be returning soon.
It pulled my hair out every time
J from NH
I really wanted to love this. I'm the type who will spend the money for something that will save my hair and keep it as healthy as possible. but this would pull out strands of hair at a time with each pass through my hair. For the record, my hair is naturally pretty straight on its own. And it did the shop well of making my hair feel soft and sleek. but I couldn't handle having my hair pulled out almost to the Roots and then having tiny strands sticking up. It was awful. I returned it and purchased the Bio ionic pro and I am IN LOVE.
Love love love
Liz from Norwalk
I have natural wavy/curly hair, some strands are very curly and spiral and others are just waves. So I love my hair and I try to avoid too much heat. This iron is amazing because I can straighten or curl a section with just one pass. I don't have to re-expose it to heat because it heats up to the perfect appropriate level for my hair.
