    How To Use

    • Step 1: To create the best blank canvas for your color, we recommend that you first, lighten your hair with our easy-to-use GDY Lightening Kit. This is because our semi-permanent dye shows up best on level 9 or 10 light blonde hair. You can use DYEposit in Platinum to pre-tone the hair to remove any yellow tones.

    • Step 2: Squeeze your color into the GDY Biodegradable Tool Kit. Remember: wear gloves to prevent staining on your hands.

    • Step 3: Do a strand test on a piece of hair in the lower back portion of your head before applying the color all over your hair to ensure you love the look!

    • Step 4: Divide your hair into 4 equal sections and apply dye directly onto dry hair. Make sure the color is fully saturated throughout each section by applying a dollop of color for every two inch portion of your hair. Gently emulsify/massage into the hair to ensure coverage.

    • Step 5: Let the color sit on your hair for at least 30 minutes.

    • Step 6: Rinse very well with cool water only. If desired, use Color Kind Wash and Rinse to remove any residual dye. Shampoo and conditioner are not required, however.

    • Step 7: Style your freshly dyed locks just the way you like.

I absolutely adore Good Dye Young and it's my go to for colorful hair. I just wish more shades were available along with the hair care products (I love the scrub)! I must say though if you're having issues with longevity then I would recommend looking into hair care tips for direct semi permanent dy...

Inconsistent Application | Out in 1 Wash

Envious of the reviewer who said theirs wouldn't wash out - mine did after 1 wash (Matrix color safe shampoo) T_T after also applying unevenly on my hair (waited required duration - 35 - 40 mins) ✊ the uneven part wasn't too big of a deal - looked cute it if would have stayed put, albeit weird since...

Baddie color doesn't match the box at all!!

    Submitted 6 months ago

    By Nana

    From Wisconsin

    Hair Type Straight Hair

Once I took it out of the box, I realized that it was an extremely pale light pink. Didn't match the box at all. Don't buy the baddie pink. It didnt stick on my hair at all either!! Extremely disappointing.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

    Works on brunette hair!

    Submitted 8 months ago

    By Jessie

    From Seattle, WA

Bought this & the arctic fox one in hot pink and test dyed both. I wasn't very hopeful since i have darker brunette hair. Let it sit for a few hours then washed it out in the shower. I will preface this by saying i had 6-8 month old highlights so was able to cling to that to dye! Says it washes out in x anount of washes but its been 4 full months and its still in! So many compliments on it - both when I did it and now that it's grown out! I really want to get another color to try

    A new favorite dye brand

    From wi

I've used kawabunga, Rose Mocha, and All in This Together so far and they've all lasted about two months while washing with warm water doing my version of the curly girl method (so not washing every day and using a cowash a lot.) arctic fox, manic panic, and iroiro don't last as long in my hair, but everyones hair is different. I dye over bleached hair, usually after a shampoo but no conditioner, and on dry hair. if I'm doing the same color/color family/depth I don't bleach I just let it fade and go over the old and it looks great both ways. This does stain my face for the first few weeks where I sweat (but so does arctic fox) and I make sure to have designated hair towels because it stains (but again, they all do.) color wise, this brand has colors that really work for my vibe and my skin tone (fair olive neutral.) the smell is subtle and kind of like fruity pebbles. its thicker, and I fins I need more vs other brands. I wish ulta carried more of their colors.

    Q
Do these need developer ? Its my first time purchasing this product. ): i dont see anything about developer being needed
    Asked by Angel
Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand Engage
Thanks for reaching out. Our semi-permanent colors do not need to be mixed with a developer. You can use the color straight from the tube. You may seal the unused portion and use it later. The product will last up to 12 months after opening. For best results, we do recommend you pre-lighten your hair. In general, virgin hair (hair that has never been pre-lightened or dyed with developer-based color) is the strongest and least porous hair and therefore, will most likely need to be pre-lightened before you choose to dye it with a semi-permanent brand. We understand pre-lightening is not the path for everyone for many different reasons. If you have dark hair, here are some colors that may work for you. Ex-Girl, All In This Together, Rock Lobster, PPL Eater, Dream BigWas this answer helpful to you
    Q
Will the Blue show up my dark hair?
    Asked by Denim Queen
Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand Engage
Thanks for reaching out. While our blue semi-perms tend to be very pigmented shades, results depend on your starting level and hair health. Good Dye Young Semi-Permanent color does not use any harsh chemicals like hydrogen peroxide or ammonia to change your hair color. It acts as a stain, taking the scariness and damage out of dying your hair. In general you can expect the following results from our blue dyes. Blue Ruin: can be applied to levels 5 through 10. On levels 5-7, Blue Ruin will appear as a dark blue that's more visible in the sunlight. This is our most pigmented blue. Dream Big: can be applied to levels 3 through 8. On levels 3-7, Dream Big will darken hair, and add a slight blue tint. Was this answer helpful to you
    Q
    Will it cover grey?
    Asked by MizzDomina
Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand Engage
Thanks for reaching out. Some semi-perm our colors may add a tint to grey hair, but for the most part semi-permanent dye does not cover grey hair because cuticles tend to be closed. Semi-permanent dye molecules are larger and will sit on the outer portion of the cuticle if not pre-lightened, resulting in a less vibrant color. The farther the dye is pushed into the cuticle, the more vibrancy and longevity it will have. Pre-Lightening natural or virgin hair before a Good Dye Young application allows the cuticle to open so the dye molecules soak into the hair better. We understand that pre-lightening might not be your preference. If that’s the case, we recommend colors like Ex-Girl, Narwhal, PPL Eater, Dream Big, and All In This Together on your virgin grey hair for a less-vibrant final result. Was this answer helpful to you
    Q
How many bottles would I need for my full head?
    Asked by gabby
Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand Engage
Hi! If you plan on dyeing your full head, the number of tubes you'll need depends on the length, thickness and texture of your hair. The average hair length will most likely need 2 bottles of dye for their hair. If your hair is longer or thicker than average, you would then adjust accordingly. Was this answer helpful to you
    Q
How would I take care of it on my hair I have very curly hair and I still want to know if I can use it on my hair without causing any bad damage.
    Asked by emmy
Official Answer By Good Dye Young - Brand Engage
Good Dye Young Semi-Permanent color does not use any harsh chemicals like hydrogen peroxide or ammonia to change your hair color. It acts as a stain, taking the scariness and damage out of dying your hair. Our semi-permanent color is safe for your curls. We do have recommended starting levels for each shade, so you can find a shade that can work over your current level. If you are considering lightening your hair, some lightening products can dry out your hair depending on the hair's health when you start the lightening process. Our Lightening Kit it formulated with conditioning ingredients like Aloe Vera, Coconut Oil, and Soy Protein that help keep hair feeling soft, strong, and nourished. To maintain your vibrant color, re-apply the color every 10-20 washes, and use cool water and heat protection for the most vibrant results. Was this answer helpful to you
