How To Use

  1. Start with dry hair and section into manageable areas to work with
  2. Set iron to the desired temperature for your hair type
  3. Starting with a single section (about 1"), take iron and open the clamp. Starting at the top (use caution near the scalp), place the section between the barrel & clamp, then close
  4. With the clamp still closed, twist the iron in an outward direction (away from the face) and continue twisting as you move down the section until it's fully wrapped around the barrel
  5. PRO TIP: Stop wrapping when you reach the section's last ¼ - ½" so that some ends stay uncurled. This gives you a beachy feel
  6. Hold the section for 4-8 seconds (depending on hair type) then open the clamp and release
  7. PRO TIP: Once the section is released from iron, grab section from the bottom with your hand and reform the curl. Either hold it or pin it until it's cool. This helps styles last even longer
  8. Repeat with remaining sections

Great iron but questionable extended barrel

Some things I love about the Hot Tools 1 ¼ extended barrel curling iron are: quick heat-up time, swivel cord, multiple heat settings, and it created a beautiful loose curl or beachy wave that lasted all day. My main con is that for being called an extended barrel, I did not find it to be much longer...

I've had my hot tools iron for well over 2 years and i love it so much i use it just about everyday, the only "con" i have about it is the clamp does sometimes get stuck where its a little open and its not an issue unless i'm curling small strands but other than that its in perfect condition!

Hot Tools have made a change for the worse

Submitted 15 days ago

By Amy

From MS

I have used and loved my Hot Tools curling irons for years, but the last two that I purchased have not held up. I bought a new one in Nov 2024 and by July, the spring broke, so it would no longer hold my hair. I waited for them to go on sale and purchased another one in Sept. 2025, and just today, the same thing happened. My older ones in different sizes are still great, but the newer models simply do not hold up. I have short, thin hair just above my shoulders, so it's definitely not from overuse. The spring components have changed and are simply no good. I will search for a different brand. Sad I wasted my money, and sad a trusted brand has cheapened their products.

I would not buy again

Submitted 1 month ago

By Susan

From Atlanta

I bought this 5 months ago (1-1/2) to replace another iron that I had for 5 years that broke while on vacation. Since purchase, the spring that opens and closes the clamp has lost its springiness. This means the clamp does not close all the way. Thus my hair slips out EVERY time. Since I work from home, I don't use this iron every day. It's the spring, rendering the iron semi useless. Before the spring failure, the iron was awesome. Needless to say, I'm buying another iron, but it won't be this same iron, actually it will likely be another brand.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend
