Fantastic slip and scent—product layering is a MUST!

[I received this product in exchange for my honest review] I tested the Mielle Kalahari Melon & Aloe Vera Curl Forming Glaze on freshly washed, soaking-wet hair. The first photo is my hair completely clean with no product. The second photo is after applying the glaze. First, let's talk about the te...xture and feel. This glaze has a lot of slip, which genuinely surprised me. Products in this category almost always flake or feel sticky on my hair, but this one did not flake at all. It spreads easily, feels smooth going on, and never turned gummy or crunchy. Huge plus. The scent is another standout. It smells heavenly. Fresh, clean, and slightly sweet without being overpowering. If you care about how your hair smells throughout the day, this one delivers. Now for the important part. This product does not work alone for my hair type. I have 3C, low-porosity hair that is very prone to dryness. When I used this glaze by itself, my hair felt dry by the next day. Not immediately, but enough to notice. This lines up with what I usually experience with aloe- and humectant-heavy products. They look great at first, then my hair feels depleted later. That said, when layered correctly, this product shines. As the label recommends, this glaze works best with oil, and if you have low porosity hair prone to dryness like me, it works even better over a solid leave-in conditioner. When I layered it over a rich leave-in and sealed with oil, my hair stayed soft, defined, and moisturized much longer. One thing to be very clear about: This glaze does not create curls. It does not transform your curl pattern or force definition where it doesn't exist. What it does is define the curls you already have. If your curls are present but need smoothing, clumping, and light hold, this does that well. If you're expecting curl formation from scratch, this isn't that product. Overall, I'd describe this as a definition enhancer and finisher, not a standalone styler or moisturizer. Used the right way, it's a really nice addition. Used alone, it's not enough. Honest, pretty results, but layering is non-negotiable for hair like mine.
