Most Helpful Positive Review effective protein treatment I have thin, porous loose curls. As a result, my hair loves protein. My hair is not damaged or color treated. I merely used this product for the protein boost. First I shampooed, then I squeezed the excess moisture from my hair and applied the reconstructer. I let it sit on my hair for roughly 5 minutes while I finished showering. Finally, I rinsed and applied my normal conditioner, detangled, then rinsed. When I styled my hair I could see that my curls were holding their shape better than normal. I even air dried 80% before diffusing for 10 minutes. I typically don't air dry because the water weight is too much for my fine hair and my curls get stretched out; however, the k-pak reconstructer gave my curls needed strength to hold their shape even while damp. I could definitely see myself using this once a week. I agree with others that you must balance moisture with this protein treatment. I used a rinse out conditioner and a small amount of curl cream to help balance the protein. having said that my hair needs A LOT more protein than moisture, so keep your own personal hair needs in mind.
Most Helpful Critical Review Not moisturizing Earlier this year when I had really dry hair I went in to Ulta and asked for a mask that would be moisturizing for dry hair. The rep brought me to single use and suggested the Joico k-pak. I loved it. When I went back last week it appeared they were recently sold out. When I asked I was told they were discontinued but they had the full size. There were several Joico mask options this time around to chose from and with the help of the Ulta rep picked this one. Either it was not the same one or they changed the formula but it was so bad I had to add my regular Pureology conditioner just to be able to get my fingers through my hair. It did not moisturize at all. It actually made it drier, plus it was pricey. I am super disappointed.

I recently got my hair lighter, idk if my stylist is using harsh products and my hair is dry to begin with, but everytime my hair is fried. I've used K-Pak before, and it works miracles.
Good but… 4

I love this product. I love the way it smells and the strength it gives my 4c hair. I will say, something is different about my hair. I'm not sure if it's the keratin but my hair is way looser in curl pattern than usual. Almost like I slightly chemically processed my hair. Not sure if this is a typical result but otherwise it's great.
Not What I expected 1
Marymill from Chicago, IL
I have very fine, long, & recently over processed hair. Which of course, left it damaged. I left this on for almost a half hour. Used it 2 x a week. For one week. After that I tossed it out. It made absolutely zero difference, even after rinsing it out. I couldn't get comb through my hair. Left it dull & weirdly thinner than it normally is.
Great hair mask. 5

Great product, leaves my hair smooth and manageable. I only use it once a month and that's enough for my hair. I alternate with a more moisturizing deep conditioner for perfect balance.
10/10 protein treatment! 5
bsooner from OKC
This is NOT a moisturizing product. This is a protein treatment. It will not make your hair soft. That said, it is an amazing protein treatment! It really helps make your hair stronger. I only use once every other week on fine, thin hair for ten minutes (unlike the five it says) It does smell like bananas, I don't mind it though.
Love this stuff! 5

I color and highlight my hair. I also have very hard water where I live. As a result, my hair is dry and damaged. I use this Joico reconstructor once or twice a week, and then use Kpak conditioner right after since it doesn't really detangle my fine hair. At first, it doesn't feel like it did anything, but once my hair is dry, it is soft and feels like normal healthy hair, instead of straw.
Smells terrible and wasn't any better than cheap conditioner 1
VNez from Cleveland ohio
The smell was bad. Like nasty oatmeal. It was lumpy. And it wasn't probably even as good as cheap $1 conditioner. I'm taking this back. I have used the Cake brand and it's a million times better.
Amazing 5

My hair was damaged from using this brands volumizing shampoo! This K-Pak has revived my hair and works amazing. I would def recommend this to anyone with damaged or distressed hair!
This product smells so unplesant! 1

I dislike the scent of this!!!! I'm returning it ASAP.
Holy grail 5

The negative comments are about this drying out your hair this is not a moisture mask!!! Use conditioner or a moisturizing hair mask after. This is to add protein to hair. It truly fixes damage quickly!!! I bleach my hair and over processed my bangs where they get stretchy when wet/break off easily, this has immediately remedied the ends and made my hair feel so much more healthy! This is a product you should use once or twice monthly at most as too much protein is bad for your hair- if your looking for moisture this brand has the most AMAZING moisture mask. It's in a purple bottle.
SO Good. 5

My fine, wavy/curly hair was limp and lifeless before this magic was introduced to me a few weeks ago. I will never go without it again! I clarify and then used once weekly at first, followed with the Intense Hydrator. Will reduce to once per month once my hair's health is fully restored.

Help is on the way! 5

At least 10 years ago, my former stylist recommended this treatment and I've been using it ever since both when my hair was in great condition and when it needed help due to hormonal changes. It is one of the best protein treatments available, must be used only once or twice a month, and followed with a "super" moisturizer like a previous customer stated in her review. I use Joico's Moisture Recovery (and the two products used only once a month) have done wonders for my mildly relaxed medium-long hair. From what I've learned over the years from the pros, hair needs a balance between protein and moisture.
Adds protein,not moisture 5
Breesie from Nebraska
I love this reconstructor for my bleached blonde hair. I use it twice a month, and it leaves my hair noticeably stronger and smoother. Based on some of the negative reviews, I realized customers may not know what this product is and what it isn't.
What it is: A protein reconstructor, that adds protein, strengthens hair, smooths the cuticle and restores the natural balance of the hair
What it isn't: A deep moisturizing treatment. Protein reconstructors do NOT add moisture to the hair . With protein reconstructors, there IS too much of a good thing. Adding too much protein will leave hair brittle and dry.
So use sparingly (only once or twice a month), and after rinsing, follow with a conditioner or a moisture mask.
Definitely would buy again 5

Awful product 1
Prettygirl from Kentucky
I was pretty excited to see this product was half off, and I hadn't used it for at least 10years. From what I remember, this line is pretty effective!! I was wrong. I used this twice, and it stunk, it came out of the bottle thick and creamy, by the time I was combing through my hair, it was thin and water like, I let it set for 5-6 minutes. When I rinsed, it was like nothing eas there. It did not feel conditioned or moisturized. I had to use double the detangler to get my brush through my hair. I'm pretty bummed about this product.
My favorite reconstructive conditioner 5
Miranda from McPherson, KS.
I've used this reconstructor since I was 18 years old. It's the only thing that can bring my hair back from the edge. I use this as a deep conditioner mask, with heat for at least an hr. And it's like night and day. It's my go to and I tell everyone about it. I wear fashion colors so I need to take care of my hair regularly and this is in my kit of conditioners. Highly recommend.
I would definetley buy this again! 5

Not for me 1

They stuff was terrible. I have used this before and like this brands other products. Not sure if I just got a bad batch or what. Really did nothing for the dryness and my hair smelled terrible.
You'll buy it again! 5
CM from Oregon
The smell is Devine! The consistency is thinner than you will expect however you don't need much. Leaves my hair much more manageable and hassle free. Combing is a breeze! Highly recommend.
I have used this for years and will continue to 5

MY HAIR HAS RECENTLY BEEN COMING OUT IN CLUMPS AND IS VERY DAMAGED AND OVER PROCESSED. AFTER WASHING MY HAIR I APPLIED IT AND PUT PLASTIC BAG ON MY HEAD FOR ABOUT 30 MIN. THEN RINSED OUT AND APPLIED MY OTHER CONDITIONERS. RINSED OUT IN SHOWER AND USED MY HAIR SERUMS BEFORE BLOWING OUT MY HAIR. MY HAIR IS SOFT SHINY AND SILKY NOW. LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!!
Life changer!!!!! 5
Archie D from Columbus, Georgia
I sought this hoping to stop my week thin hair from breaking. In one use this worked! My hair is also sooo smooth. Maybe too smooth as it has decreased the density of my hair. I will continue to purchase this wonderful reconstructor.
