Can any top coat be used or do you need a specific one. Also, do you need a base coat first?

Ok, so I always get chipped nails. Like ALWAYS. Apparently I have really oily nails. Go figure! Even my gel nails get chipped if the salons do not follow certain steps to really remove any excess oil from my nails (though I must admit that Essie Gels never got chipped - but not all salons can affor...

Chips on fifth day
Pretty color, great brush, but it didn't last anywhere near 14 days. Also it's shrunk so much anyway from the cuticle and the tips I couldn't wear it much longer even if it didn't chip. I did wash some dishes so I didn't expect it to last 14 days but expected more than 4.

Best polish for healthcare workers!
I work in healthcare and i wash and sanitize my hands ALL DAY. This is the ONLY polish I've found that can stand up to that! And it dries seriously quick so i can quick apply the top coat right before my shift starts to protect it, especially when I'm a week in. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!
Not long lasting
Bought this particular brand to see if it was any better than others. Went on smoothly and dried fast, but in a couple of days, it was already chipping.

Pretty color but....
This polish NEVER dries. No matter how thin your coats are, no matter how many hours you let it dry between coats, it ALWAYS smudges. It's such a shame because this is the most perfect red :(
