Most Helpful Positive Review Works if you make certain to thoroughly wet your head It worked great on my fine, medium-high porosity, medium density, day 4 hair.
My roots were very oily this week and when that happens I have to shampoo twice, but I only needed to shampoo once with this. My hair felt clean but the product is gentle because it didn't strip out my semi-permanent, purple peekaboo layer of hair at all. Is the bottle on the more rigid side? Slightly, but the shampoo is extremely thick!
You must have a soaking wet head and spread a generous blob of shampoo between wet hands/warm it up (10-20 seconds) before applying to your scalp, then be prepared to to massage it around your scalp for a bit because as someone else pointed out, it does like to stay where it's applied. I switched from my fingers to a silicon nub scalp scrubber/massager which helped immensely, rinsed it out really thoroughly, and then followed up with the strength recipe multi-tasking conditioner with good results. My hair is definitely less frizzy than usual and feels moisturized.
Most Helpful Critical Review I wanted to like this so badly This was the first product I ever tried from Curlsmith. First, this product heavily depends on what your curls can handle. I am assuming it is heavily oil-based, and my hair gets oily super quickly. I had to wash my hair every day while using this. I did see some comments about how it doesn't lather, you have to wash your hair 2-3 times with it in order for it to 1, lather & 2, make your hair actually feel clean. When my hair dried, it smelled amazing, and my curls looked so good. It was not worth it though due to how quickly my hair would feel dirty- literally within 8 hours. The bottle also makes it extremely difficult to squeeze the product out.

I love the way my hair looks and feels since using this shampoo! I see a big difference. My hair is less frizzy and enhances the waves in my hair. It smells wonderful too!
Adds body to bleached curls 5
Fabiola from Undisclosed
I have bleached blonde hair that was very deflated, as in the curls were bouncy but elongated. The protein line helped my curls shrink up a bit and look more alive.
please consider modifying the packaging 2

This is my first time and most likely the last time using this shampoo. The smell is great, but holy moly the bottle is so hard to squeeze anything out! Can you imagine being in the shower, your hands are wet and slippery and trying to squeeze shampoo out?! I ended up taking the whole lid off and turn the bottle upside down just to get the shampoo out. It is also not very..soapy, it does requires a lot. I'm not a fan. With that being said, I can't talk on the quality of the shampoo as I feel I would need to use it a little longer to see the effect. The packaging really turned me off. Will be writing similar review for the condition lol
great for my wavy fine hair 5
Jen from San Francisco, ca
I have very fine wavy/curly hair that is super dry. This shampoo in conjunction with only washing my hair twice a week and trying not to use a curling iron too often has helped keep my hair from looking like straw!
Immensely helped my psoriasis but okay on curls 4
Veronica from Wilmington, DE
I got this to try on my curly hair after watching a tiktok of this girl with beautiful curls reviving her roommates hair. Not sure if it was just how I used it but it did not make my hair as amazingly more curly. My hair is usually very curly without me having to do anything but with the shampoo it kind of makes my hair dull. I would say though that I have psoriasis on my scalp and usually in the winter it is bad BUT once I started using this (and the conditioning mask) it has basically cleared it up entirely. Although I'm not a huge fan of the lack of curls I will continue to use this because my scalp hasn't been this clear since before I was diagnosed.
My favorite shampoo 5

This is my favorite shampoo along with the conditioner. For anyone saying the bottle is hard to squeeze, just take the lid off???

Awful! My hair might have less breakage but at what cost? I have never in my 3 year curly hair journey felt a shampoo or a conditioner (multi-tasking conditioner) leave my hair as bad as these products do. It dried out my hair, pulled out my curls, and left it with more frizz than ever. I couldn't say enough how badly I wanted to love this line but I don't. I will keep using LUS 3 step system and discontinue using the shampoo and conditioner as part of my routine. If I hadn't spent so much money on these products they would already be in the trash.
Love it! 5

I have shorter hair and didn't have to use a lot of product, bonu$. It really did feel like it melted away the dirt. I didnt worry that there wasn't a lot of lather, rather I used it as directed and along with my other new products from my quiz and still loving the results a month later so I trust that it is adequately clean. I'm also using Multitasking conditioner, Oil-in-Cream Conditioner, In-Shower Styler.
Loved the product but.... 3

I was really liking this product when I noticed my scalp was BURNING when I was using it. After reading the ingredient list I saw mushroom was listed. I have a mushroom allergy and have never come across it in a hair product before! (This is no fault to the company, just thought I'd warn others with the same allergy)
While my scalp was compromised, my hair looked great while using this product
Well worth it! 4

This gives my hair a good cleansing, which is great for product buildup. Not sure about the strength building, but I like how my hair feels after washing. Good scent!
NOT SAFE FOR COLORED HAIR 2
Mid20s Purple from VA
Loved the natural ingredients, loved that it said color safe so I ordered it to try. The amount of purple that washed out of my hair was easily 2-3x the amount of bleeding I usually get with my normal shampoo. Returning immediately
Barely lathers in my hair and need so much of it 3
Alissa from Ontario Canada
I am not a fan of this product. For the price, I would expect that this shampoo would last me for a while. But as I have been using it for months, the bottle is almost done because I have to use so much of it to even feel it on my scalp which is so odd (I have medium density). I have also noticed that almost every time I use this shampoo, I get dandruff. I am not sure why this product is recommended for people who wash their hair 2-3 times a week (I can only use it when I wash my hair once a week). I love Curlsmith but this product does not live up to its typical standard.
Packaging problem 3
Donna from Milwaukee, wi
I ordered this quite a while ago and I've only used it about 4 times, so I can't honestly speak to it's quality as a shampoo. I CAN say that this shampoo is nearly impossible to get out of the bottle. So much so that I dread trying to use it, and I don't anymore. I have practically a full bottle sitting in my shower that I can't use, but don't want to throw away. I love my other Curlsmith products and wholeheartedly recommend them to others. Unfortunately, this one doesn't live up to the standards I've come to expect from Curlsmith.
Left hair dry and tangled 1
Pam from Philadelphia
I was hopeful about this shampoo, but this is the second shampoo I've tried from Curlsmith, and am disappointed yet again. This left my hair incredibly dry and tangled despite using a moisturizing conditioner and my usual hair products afterward. My hair is 2C and high porosity, but it only has a teeny bit of shine because of my styling products.
Good product, but THE SMELL!! 3
mmofid from San Jose
Unfortunately, I will need to return the products as the perfume/fragrance used in all the products is so strong and unpleasant I can't use them. I had read similar reviews from other customers, but didn't think it would really be that intense. I was a bit surprised at the marketing for the products being based on the ingredients being all natural, vegan and plant based. Then, to have the perfume/fragrance be so unnaturally smelling seemed paradoxical. The smell is like Victoria Secret perfume mixed with bubble gum and cotton candy. Maybe consider an unscented line or more light, natural, plant -based smell. Having a light scent is especially important when you have customers layering 4 of your products on at once. It can get really, really intense!
Hair loves it. 5

My hair loves this shampoo. Nice lather and doesn't weight it down.
I would buy this product again but… 5

So I accidentally mistook this product as my vaginal wash and now my coochie has dandruff. I wonder if i should condition it now or if it will make it more itchy. Works great on my hair tho. All my product buildup is gone when I use this but my fupa is now drier than the sahara desert.
Perfect 5

My hair isn't damaged but I try to have a good moisture/protein balance and this just what my hair needed. Perfect for my coarse, medium porosity, looser curl pattern
Expect hair damage 1
Banana from Florida
I switched over to curlsmith thinking that maybe a more expensive brand would give my hair a new revamp but to my surprise i was wrong. Since using this shampoo i have lost a significant amount of hair, along with thinning which is ironic since this shampoo claims to 'strengthen' hair. I have 3b texture with low porosity and this shampoo leaves my hair dry, stringy, and rough. I gave it quite a few try's before coming to the conclusion that my hair loss was due to what ever horrific ingredients curlsmith has in their hair products. Along with hair damage be prepared to wrestle with the bottle in order to receive a drop of shampoo, nothing about this shampoo is convenient or useful. Please look elsewhere.
Great if you're strong enough to get it out of the bottle 2
La Iris from Montebello, CA
This product definitely works if you SOAK your hair before applying a "generous" amount of product. If you don't, then prepare to have rough, dry and stringy hair until maybe the 2nd or 3rd round followed by a very deeply moisturizing conditioner. That would seem pretty simple, yet exhausting, however the bottle makes it near IMPOSSIBLE to get any of the product out in order to "generously" apply it. As someone with carpal tunnel syndrome it is extremely painful and difficult to press the bottle between my chest/abdomen and my wrist/forearm multiple times while showering in order to get a "generous" amount to start my wash. Why is this packaging so horrible when the rest of your products are packaged greatly. Maybe if you change the packaging people could use the product correctly the first time and keep purchasing it versus giving it such a low rating due to incorrect application more than likely cause by the unsqueezable bottle you package it in. Just some food for thought from a consumer of this product.

I love almost all of the products I use by CurlSmith. Not this one, though. It's near impossible to get the shampoo out of the bottle. Why?! Once I manage to get a little out and start washing and rinsing, my hair feels dry, like a Brillo pad.

AMAZING! 5

I have fine curls and lately it's not wanting to cooperate. It's been dryer and unruly.
Second day hair used to be my best hair day but it just wasn't looking good at all.
I have a ton of moisturizing products and they just weren't working.
I kept seeing Curl Smith but was hesitant because I have tried other expensive brands that didn't do that well.
Previously I've been using some Shea Moisture, Hask, Not Your Mothers and All About Curls. I also take hair supplements.
So I just think my hair needed some protein maybe because it looks much better now! Second and third day great as well.
But I'm not sure if it was the shampoo or the conditioner but I will keep using for sure!

Great for Days off of Shampooing 5
Sam from PA
I love this product!! I have the co wash and this shampoo and then I use a typical shampoo once a week. On days where I feel like I need a little bit more of a cleanse than just a co wash, this shampoo is perfect! My hair feels clean, fresh, and soft.
