Most Helpful Positive Review Great Protection, Rosacea Relief
Wearing sunscreen is the most effective way to prevent against skin cancer, premature skin aging, and loss of firmness. I wear sunscreen on my face and neck every day, and I always opt for a high SPF because most people (myself included) do not apply the recommended amount of SPF to get the full protection on the product label. I usually wear mineral sunscreens because my skin is sensitive to chemical formulations and it irritates my rosacea, and also because there is some evidence to suggest that zinc oxide is beneficial for reducing the redness and irritation from acne rosacea, acne vulgaris, and papopustular rosacea. I am thirty years old and have struggled with acne, closed comedones, and now rosacea--I can't catch a break!
I really enjoy this COOLA sunscreen because I can comfortably use it on my face and body, so I don't need separate products and can save money. I also enjoy how it doesn't irritate my skin and it helps cover some of the redness on my rosacea-prone skin. Fragrance-free is important to me as it is highly irritating, and I have enough red bumps and texture on skin already! I find that it wears well under makeup or on its own and it doesn't sting near my eyes. Even better, this sunscreen is reef safe, which I appreciate to help protect marine ecosystems.
Of course, it does have a bit of a white cast (all mineral sunscreens do), but I don't mind because it helps cover some of my rosacea, and I also find that the cast goes away after about an hour. I know this is not ideal for everyone, particularly people of color, but if you have a lighter complexion you might consider wearing this under your color-corrector or foundation. I find that the COOLA is creamy, doesn't require much rubbing to apply, and protects me from burning. I have tried other dermatologist recommended sunscreens and have found them unbearably chalky and heavy and they don't wear well under my makeup.
My only downside is the price, but considering I can use this safely on both face and body it is a good price per ounce compared to other face-specific formulas.
I will definitely continue to buy as long as they continue this formula! Thanks, COOLA!
Most Helpful Critical Review No no no no no no -- NO
First of all, this product does not absorb well into the skin AT ALL. It's thick and sits on top like a weird paste. That being said, it made my skin look ashy and I moisturize every single day, cold and hot weather from head-to-toe. But this sunscreen made my skin look flaky and scaly. Oh, and it also made my skin feel really chalky. Just not an overall good look or feeling.
To make matters worse, despite the constant ashiness, I got a massive sun burn while wearing it. I made sure to apply this to all exposed areas before going to the park just a couple of days ago. When I got home, I had ridiculous tan lines -- unattractive sunburnt ones -- all over my shoulders. And I don't even burn that much. It's so sensitive that wearing a purse on my shoulder is uncomfortable...a bra strap...even if I LIGHTLY rub it.
This sunscreen was returned IMMEDIATELY after my massive burn. (I had been trying it out for about a month, but this was the first time I was ever in an area with open exposure.)

First mineral sunscreen I could find for my sensitive dry skin that doesn't leave a noticeable white cast.
Mineral Sunscreen for sensitive skin
Martina P. from undisclosed
After finishing my Classic Body Sunscreen that I ordered in Guava Mango by accident instead of unscented, I really wanted the Mineral one because I researched that it's the best for sensitive skin and for the environment. I really wanted to like it more but I actually like the classic one more. This one leaves the white film that I have to really rub in well and also I did still end up with some form of reaction to the sun and turned red and random spots. I will give it another try and use it until finished.
There is not enough zinc
Callie B. from undisclosed
There is not enough zinc in this product to protect. I applied liberally and I still got burned. It needs a higher percentage of zinc.
Best mineral sunscreen out there! Non chalky or drying!
Karam K. from undisclosed
Tried a lot of mineral sunscreens but all were very chalky and drying. Finally found this one by Coola which is perfect.
Really nice, normally get spf 30
Paula E. from undisclosed
Normally I purchase the SPF unscented 30 version, but they were out and I certainly don't mind the extra spf. I was worried about the 50 being a "daily" sunscreen and harder to wear but being at home more (and totally out of the 30) I decided to risk it. The 50 is great! You do have to be a tad more patient rubbing this in, but it ends up having the same texture as the 30 on dry down. I used some light oil or lotion before applying and that helped. It may have slightly more cast (I have olive skin and lots of tattoos) but nothing that I mind unless I was being super fancy or something. I haven't used this on my face, and I did sometimes use the 30 on my face in a pinch. All in all I think this is a great purchase for the extra spf that isn't greasy and still something one could wear as a daily.
Nice sunscreen and feels good

Nice sunscreen and feels good on the skin. And it's not greasy.
Moisturzing plus protection

Nourishing plant oils that help with moisturizing but also keeps me from burning. Wonder spf!
Pretty good, although thick with a white film
Rachel C. from undisclosed
I liked this sunscreen! It did leave a little bit of a white residue so I suppose it's more of a physical barrier. Definitely better for sports, which is fine because I got it for my outdoor runs. It went on smoothly and I didn't have difficulties getting it off in the shower so that was a plus. I think I'll try some other varieties too, I know there was a silkier sunscreen offered by Coola that felt amazing!
Great sunscreen. Doesn't just sit

Great sunscreen. Doesn't just sit on top and stay white on skin. Overall, would recommend.

I like it it is pretty good !it takes a little bit to stand all over the body but not too bad!! Another concern is a little bit pricey.
Not the same as formula as last year
Anne O. from undisclosed
I ordered again this summer because I loved this sunscreen for our whole family last summer, but this formula is different. Same packaging, but not the same as it was. Now leaves us all white, does not look sheer like our last order. Disappointed.

I wouldn't order this again as it leaves you looking white and it is very drying to the skin. I guess when I ordered I didn't realize what the mineral meant.
A must have!

I use this for myself AND my 1 year old! This is better than any baby sunscreen out there!

I like this sunscreen! It rubs in well for me but my husband it does not - maybe because the hair on his arms and legs? I might try another kind for him but I do like this sunscreen a lot!

I recently tried this product after seeing Dr. Rhonda Patrick rave about it and i see why. It goes on easy, it last even in water and my kids love the smell of it and they have extremely sensitive skin and we had no problems with it. Will be ordering again.
Good for certain areas

I am happy that it rubs in quickly and doesn't feel greasy. However, it made my arms break out. So right now I am just using it on my hands and chest.

I wish I could give this 0 stars. I read on one of my pregnancy apps that this was considered a pregnancy safe sunscreen so I figured I would give it a shot. It's literally the most useless thing I've ever used. My face and body are burnt to a crisp wherever I put this on. My husband sprayed my back with Coppertone SPF 30 and that's the only place that's not burnt. I'm honestly so mad about it. Can't wait to get my money back and literally buy any other brand.
Good for you, good for the planet
Maggie B. from undisclosed
This sunscreen takes a bit of rubbing in, but it's worth it. It sticks around and protects better than a lot of chemical sunscreens, and has little to no waiting period before it's fully protecting you. It's reef friendly and skin friendly, and even the unscented version doesn't have an unpleasant smell!
I was rewarded with extra COOLA rewards points for my honest product review, but that has no effect on my opinion. Love everything I've tried from the COOLA product line.

Leaves a white cast
Catherine S. from undisclosed
I do like this sunscreen, especially for my young kids who don't care if it leaves a mild white cast on their faces/bodies, but for me, I really wish it didn't. I love the safe ingredients which is why I like this sunscreen, but I'm going to keep searching (within the Coola brand) for something else for me.
Everyone needs this
Dani K. from undisclosed
Without a doubt, I apply this to my body everyday. It's easy to carry and apply before driving or eating outside. Knowing that it's mineral, there is extra rubbing that takes place in order for the sunscreen to be absorbed. The bottle size is fair.
Good coverage without the sticky feeling
Rebecca L. from undisclosed
I hate using sunscreen because I can't stand the feeling on my hands and skin. Not with Coola. It goes on smooth and rubs in nice like a thick lotion. A bottle won't last me long but it's good stuff.
Stephanie K. from undisclosed
Bought for our kids to use. As with all mineral sunscreen it goes on white but rubbed in well. No weird smell and so far seems to do the job!
Nice and lightweight

I love that this is fragrance free. It spreads easily and does what it claims. I highly recommend it!
