Most Helpful Positive Review Understand the Product A lot of these reviews are complaining about the tint, and saying this product doesn't absorb into the skin, but "sits on top of it." First, that's exactly what it's supposed to do. The reason this product is called City "Block" is that it is a true sunblock, a physical barrier between your skin and the sun. Read the description. It says it has no chemical sunscreens. The sunscreens that do absorb into your skin are able to do that because their SPF comes from chemicals. Not so with City Block. Its active ingredients are titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, which do sit on top of the skin to prevent the sun's rays from getting through. You know that white stuff you see on lifeguard's noses? That's titanium/zinc oxide. And it works. Physical barrier sunscreens are superior to chemical sunscreens, and if you're at all concerned about putting chemicals in your body, a physical barrier sunscreen--which is also natural and nontoxic--is the way to go. The tint is necessary because without it, you'd look like that lifeguard with the white stuff all over your face. Just smooth it on evenly and then go over it lightly with a mineral veil/makeup. I, for one, am very glad that Clinique offers a non-chemical sunscreen, and City Block is a great product.
Most Helpful Critical Review Not my fave City Block Sheer is just not one of my favorite products. And I have LOVED Clinique since high school. I wanted to like it since it is oil-free, but it flakes if you rub it in too much. I guess it's supposed to rest on surface of skin, but with make-up and then powder on top, especially with moisturizer underneath, it is just to much. I would maybe recommend it for someone with drier skin, or don't use with make-up too, just finish with powder.

I've been using this product for years, it's perfect for the summer. It's light, doesn't make my skin oily and has a little color in it. Please bring SPF 40 back.
not strong enough! 1
Deb from Rhode Island
Please bring back the SPF 40. I need that level of protection but the new product does not work for my sensitive skin.
I really warn City Block 40 SPF to come back!!!! 5
Karen from MA
I have used City Block for years and years! I'm an Equine Educator and am outside in the sun all day long! I have to say my skin is in really great shape for 62 years old, but it's due to the sun protection of City Block that has been my saving grace! Please bring it back!!!!

I am living in FL and every day I am driving towards East in the morning and towrds West in the afternoon. Consequently, each time I have the sun in my windshield. I bought this product in May and since then I noticed the difference. My face looks better, no new dark spots, and the old ones have diminished. I can say that I am happy I bought and used this product and I'll use it during the winter season as well.

Best Daily Face Protector 5

I love this face protector!!! It's lightweight, oil-free, SPF 25, has a hint of color, works great under makeup, and has no chemical sunscreens. I couldn't ask for more!!!
White Cast on Brown Skin 1
JDOT from CA
I have oily, acne-prone skin and have searched for an absorbent, lightweight sunscreen for an added barrier on my skin. While I enjoyed the texture of the product and how it felt on my skin, it left such a bad white cast. I am a brown-skinned woman and the cast was so evident. There was nothing "sheer" about this product.
Hard to blend and stings 1
Jane from NJ
Bought it because of the high rating and comments. When I opened it, the product came out in a weird texture, like part of the product settled out of the mixture. It felt slightly liquidy. It's difficult to blend on the face, need to apply small amount at a time. When I wore it today, it started to sting after my face sweated a bit :/
BRING BACK THE SUPER CITY BLOCK 40 SPF PLEASE!! 3
SadLittleBunny from California
This one pales in comparison and honestly the 40 SPF was the most amazing I've ever tried of all SPF's out there. Even the really expensive ones! Super city block 40 is hands down the best with the most amazing skin finish and perfect light coverage! I am devastated I cant have that any more! Why get rid of such an amazing product?!!?! Please, bring it back!!!

I am still waiting on my shipment, contacted Clinque and told it's been shipped.
So far so good 4
ashley from Iowa
Seems to work really well. It's a little thicker and harder to blend than I expected. But it is a sunscreen so it makes sense.
Brown Girls Beware 1

The white cast is terrible. If you have melanin in your skin, then you will look like a ghost.
Great but needs more spa! 5
Heidi from tennessee
After Clinique replaced my beloved city block 40 with their new version that did not work for me at all, I ordered this. It is lovely. Great for sensitive skin. It sinks in nicely, has a very subtle dew finish, is not greasy or slippery at all, is a great tint, blends in nicely. It is the closest thing I could find to city block 40, which was all the before mentioned but more sun protection. For others looking to replace the city block 40, here are the main differences-the tint for this is slightly paler, has the most subtle white tint, when compared to the city block 40. It has a dew finish like city block 40, but more subtle. Lastly, it blends in much easier, dries down faster, and is not as thick going on.

It's just like wearing sunscreen as a moisturizer.
Great Sunscreen for Sensitive Skin! 5
B from Maine
I have quite sensitive skin, and this sunscreen doesn't irritate my skin! I'm super impressed with the sun coverage and the way it blends easily. It's super lightweight and I can't feel it at all. A plus, plus, plus for having all mineral sunscreen ingredients! It exceeded my expectations!
Perfect primer! 5

I have been using this every morning for years. I love the way it preps my skin for foundation and protects from sun damage.
My dark spots have lightened some and I have not seen any new ones.
Feels light in your skin.
FAVORITE! 5
noangel1981 from california
A little thick going on so I use a good pea size on each section: forehead,L cheek, R cheek and neck. But once blended and absorbed it looks great(a little airbrushed) and feels weightless. I wait 10 minutes to fully absorb and then dust with a little tinted powder. no makeup needed.

BRING BACK THE SPF 40 1
HG from Arkansas
I am so disappointed that you have discontinued the SPF 40 version. I have used that product for nearly 15 years now and it was by far the best! I know you have created a "new and improved" product to take its place, but I was not impressed at all. Bring back the original!! From what I see on these reviews and reviews on other retailers you have a lot of unhappy longtime customers who all agree!
Feels SO good on my face! 5
SusieQT from Southeast US
An online chat consultant recommended this to me. I just got it so don't know if I will have breakouts from it, but love the way it feels on my skin. I have Beyond Perfecting foundation and I mixed just a little in with the City Block. Looks very natural. It goes a long way.

Best Tinted Sunscreen 5
Lipstick and Teacups from New Jersey
I adore this product. It goes on easily, and the slight tint helps even out any discoloration on my skin. I do wish Clinique hadn't discontinued the version of this that had SPF 40, since SPF 25 isn't enough protection from sun damage. I do have to wear an additional sunscreen under this, but since I use it as a sheer foundation I don't mind too much.
Non greasy and stays on 4
Ruby from Wisconsin
I love this product. It is non-greasy and stays on until you take it off. Great for every day use. I like to know that even when driving in my car I have protection from sun damage.
