Wrap hair in a microfiber towel to soak up excess watter. Apply this product to damp hair. My hair is down to my bra and I use approximately a bit less than a half dollar but bigger than a quarter. I rub it in my hand and then distribute evenly by colbing through my hair with my fingers and gathering all of my hair in my hands similar to a ponytail and geently run my hands over my damp hair.
I have naturally curly hair (3a high porosity, medium density and fine width-for all of you who are familiar w/ naturally curly website). Over the years I have tried hundreds of products from the cheapest I could find to 40 bucks a bottle. I always come back to this product though.
I have had 3 friends try it (none of which who are into fixing their hair-I personally don't like to look like i licked a light socket so I use it everytime I wash my hair which is only twice/week) and I noticed improved frizz control in their hair as well-It wasn't just my imaginiation either. I thought I noticed a difference about a week after she bought it and asked if she was using it and she said yes (this was the first time she used it-again not big into her hair so took her a week before she used it). But she doesn't use it regularly so I notice when she doesn't use it.
I looove this for fighting frizz and flyaways. It works great for when I wear my hair curly and when I flat iron it. Very noticeable when curly though. It pairs up great with the Curls Rock Amplifier which I love for curl definition. I am open to try any products that people recommend to me and if I see someone with nice curly hair -not light socket curls;) I ask her what products she uses and I may try them if I haven't already.
There really isn't anything bad I have to say about Control Freak I highly recommend it!
I advise playing around with it if you use other hair poducts. When I try a new product I substitute it for the one that I think it might be replacing and see if I notice any difference. For example I have tried using this as my first product on my hiar and i have tried using it 2nd as well. I t works better as the first product on my hair vs the 2nd product and I also one time tried combining Control Freak with the Curls rock at the same time and the was a BAD idea! the Curls rock and the Control freak do not mix well together at the same time apply them seperately!
I have very thick and curly hair, so frizz is enemy #1... but this product did the opposite of what it was supposed to do.
I gave it several chances... (always applied while still damp) tried using it after different shampoo/conditioner combos, different product combos, even tried it by itself (BIG mistake). Every single time, once it dried, it made my hair a giant poofy mess. It made my hair feel brittle, dry, and not smooth at all. Makes your hands sticky when you go to put your hair in a bun because this WILL give you a bad hair day.
The smell is ok... a bit too much of a chemical scent, not enough fragrance. I felt like I was smelling the glitter. It left a lot of dry-product residue as well that appeared hours later.
Why do they call this a "serum" when the consistency is that of a gel?
Dianna from PA
Pur in freshly washed, towel dried hair, style as usual. I blow dry and flat iron.

I have used hair serums to protect my hair from heat since I was young since it is so fine. I also have frizzy and curly hair so it can be challenging to tame it if the products are not a . This product is by far the worst experience I have had with a hair serum and/or heat protectant. I do not even believe it should be called a serum. The consistency is that of a HAIR GEL, and dries almost faster than a hair gel, this makes the application incredibly difficult when the instructions say to "work it through your hair", which then got more knotted than if I had not done anything with it for over 4 days. I pushed on though to attempt to straighten my hair, which it did not feel like it was protecting anything. It did not help with frizz either, it made it worse than it normally is. I will never use this product again, may not even give the company's products a second chance either. So sad that it was such a waste of money.

IT made my hair sticky and crispy.

I use this product after every time I wash my hair. It really gives me a lot of control and helps fight the frizz of my natural curl that's only realistically a weird wave.
my hair has curl & kink & straight from St Paul MN
I am 52, and had straight hair until a couple of years ago - thank you hormones, now it's curly and kinky on the lower half of my head, and straight to wavy on the top half of my head. I got a packet sample of this product as a bonus in a recent Ulta shipment, and tried it today. I used a liberal amount (whole packet, maybe 2 Tablespoons) on my "below shoulder but not to my chest" length hair. Blew it dry with an ionic dryer with full stretch on a round brush. Wow! Very shiny locks like I have not seen in forever. No frizz. This is not a high hold product, more like a straighten and smoothing gel with a bit of shine enhancing. I would buy this now, and I'm pretty loyal to L'anza all natural products. 💜

It says it gives your hair s shine and controls frizz. It does neither.
Dominican curly hair from Atlanta
I washed my hair like normal, applied the product on my damp hair and tried to blow dry as instructed. "This right here ain't it sis", not only does it feel like gel, this product smells like alcohol and chemicals. When I applied it on my damp curly hair it immediately made my hair feel dry and tangled. I couldn't even blow dry properly because I had to keep untangling my hair (when normally my hair is soft and I don't have this issue). After I finished drying, my hair felt dry and brittle. My hair was shiny but at the same time it looked dull and straw like. (Which again isn't an issue for me).

Read the reviews before I purchased this product, so I figured I'd give it a try for my frizzy hair and heat treatment. Yeah....It doesn't work whatsoever for frizz. As far as treatment for heat, I guess it works fine. I use a blow dryer and straightener everyday. The shimmer in the serum is strictly a selling point. It doesn't show when you apply the product (I didn't buy it for the sparkle).

Works beautifully as a detangling serum as well as taming fly aways. which is why i bought it, to touch up at the beach or on the go. HOWEVER, the name "control freak" is semi-deceiving. The hold is very light so to all those that want a strong hold this is NOT it. BUT this product smells so delicious, which is a MUST for all of my hair products. For me and my curly hair, this works great as a styling BASE and then i add my Cantu curling cream throughout the rest of my hair. I found doing it that way it holds very nice n smells so good all day long. Also, this product makes my hair super soft.
All in all, this product smells great, tames fly aways, and is great for on-the-go touch ups.

I love this stuff! It worked really well. I put it on damp hair and then after blow drying it. It really helped for humidity and fly away hairs. I wish I would have had this when I went to Cancun Mexico.

I've tried everything to tame my naturally frizzy, wavy hair. (Shampoos, pomades, leave I'm conditioners to list the least) but nothing compares to this serum! Along with getting rid of my frizz it perfectly straightened my hair which I didn't think was possible without a flat iron! Tip: this product is best used with an argan oil and blow dried with a round brush and diffuser!
Hannahcoco from Portland, OR
My hair is wavy to straight, but still has that messy dry sticky appearance. This product TOTALLY made it lay down and shine. Smells yummy, kind of like watermelons? 10/10 recommend.
Robyn from Arkansas
Doesn't work on wavy, frizzy, hair.
Bits from Flower Mound, TX
Perfect product for my short hair. Gives just enough hold without being stiff or sticky. With my short hair, I only use a dab about the size of a nickel, so it lasts a long time.
Kim B from Houston
I used a little on my damp hair and then blew dry. I didn't feel that I had much body and left my hair very greasy.
Rosie from NC
I have thin, fine hair. This product controls frizz all day. It smells great too.
Danna from Ga
It controls flyaway hair it smoothes my hair enough to get a comb though it.
New from Buford, Ga
Have used this product for about a year and love it! I buy it when it's on sale because it is expensive for the amount in the bottle!
Nuttydar from Redford, MI
I run this product in my hair before blow drying.
Hails from Fort Wayne, IN
I use this right after the shower. Leaves my hair smelling great and the flyaways tamed. Overall great product
Dee Jay from Panama City Beach, FL
I love this product. I'm 54 with medium length wavy blonde hair, medium texture, a bit dry. When I straighten my hair, Control Freak gives me sleek shiny locks like in a shampoo commercial. When I go natural, I get bouncy beachy waves. I like Tigi products anyway, but Control Freak is now my go-to. It's light, so if you have thick or coarse hair your results may vary.

I have 3a/b curls and I live in hot, humid north Texas. I use this stuff layered over a curl cream while I'm still in the shower and my hair is sipping wet. I scrunch it in to form the curls, get out of the shower, then scrunch with a basic t shirt to remove the excess water. I almost always air dry, my hair is dry within 2 1/2 hours (that's short compared to curl gels that cause my hair to take 3-4 hrs to dry!) and then I scrunch the crunch out. And make no mistake, you do have to scrunch out the crunch if you're air drying or your hair will be a stringy crunchy mess. After all of this, my hair looks amazing. Perfect ringlet curls that flow in the wind and spring when I walk. It hasn't dried my hair out, it doesn't leave a film, I'm able to get 3-4 days of curls every time I use this stuff. I knocked off a star because it only seems to work when I use it with a specific curl cream that is very expensive. The curl cream only seems to work when I pair it with this, too, so they seem to be a great pair! It has been great for my winter hair, I guess I'll have to see how it works as the temps start to sky rocket.

Does not work for my natural hair
Julie from New Jersey
Works on all hairstyles. It is very simple to use - the bottle helps control how much comes out at a time. I have been using it to control very frizzy hair and it's been great.
