Most Helpful Positive Review Well done Cerave
I started using this about 3 weeks ago, and I'm loving it. I'm 48, have hyperpigmentation, redness, and pores the size of UFO's. In 3 weeks, I have seen my pores shrink, my skin brighten, and the redness is significantly reduced. On top of that, my skin is as soft as a baby's behind ! It can be a bit drying, so if you have dry skin, this may not be for you. My skin is like the Exxon Valdez oil spill, so this has even lessened oiliness for me. I wish women would read the instructions on the box. You don't need to poke it open yourself, you remove the white ring, screw the cap back on, and it self punctures. You also don't take the entire cap off to apply it, there are two caps. The ridged cap stays in place and the smooth part of the cap twists off. Come on ladies, I know you're smarter than this, read the directions, and stop complaining about the product oxidizing. Had you followed the directions, and not continued to take the entire cap off, you would not have these problems. Cerave made an exceptionally well packaged product, your inability to follow directions isn't a reason to criticize their product.
Most Helpful Critical Review Couldn't wait to finish
I was so glad when I finally finished my tube of this. Like a lot of skincare enthusiasts, I love trying out different vitamin c products, and after hearing so much praise be given to the whole Cerave brand, I decided to purchase one of these.
Objectively speaking, this isn't a bad product: it contains 10% pure vitamin c, ceramides, and several moisturizing and hydrating ingredients like panthenol and hyaluronic acid. The packaging is practical for such an unstable ingredient like vitamin c, because it gets no light exposure and minimal exposure to oxygen before you squeeze the product out. Cerave also uses their patented MVE Technology to better allow the vitamin C to be absorbed by our skin. From what I understand, this means the vitamin C is encapsulated and is released after it's already penetrated the skin, making it more effective. There are actual studies on this delivery system found on PubMed, so it's not just marketing.
With all that said, I just didn't get joy out of using this serum. In addition to using skincare to address issues I have, skincare is also a hobby and a self-care thing for me. The experience of using a product is important to me. Cerave is a brand that markets itself in a very dull way. This product looks like some kind of ointment tube. If I were someone with severe skin issues and only interested in seeing results, or maybe just someone who doesn't care much about the experience of using a product, I'd probably love Cerave. That's not the case, though, so I don't see myself buying again from the company on a regular basis. Ultimately the most disappointing thing about this serum is that I didn't notice any difference in my skin's brightness or dark spots left by acne.

Smells so bad I couldn't use it
I can see a difference

I tried this because I wanted an affordable and gentle option. I am about halfway through with the tube using consistently day and night. I have noticed a big difference in the tone and softness of my skin. I feel more even and this doesn't irritate me at all. It's in my cart to repurchase!!!

This is by far the best vitamin c serum for the price. It has reduced my fine lines, eliminated red spots, and lightened and almost eliminated the dark spots on my forehead. You only need 3 drops for the whole face. The reviewers that talk about "pilling" are using too much. Follow it with a small amount of moisturizer. Works beautifully under makeup. All vitamin c serums have a faint metallic smell (ascorbic acid!), but this one is less than other brands. I spent a lot of money on Clinique Fresh Pressed, and results were similar with this at a fraction of the cost.
Probaly reccomend a different brand

I literally just bought this and tried it out. It peels off in lil pills if you rub your face and I only had moisturizer on top of this. Will not work great with makeup.
I recommend this.

I saw a difference in about a week. My complexion looks more even and my sun spots have gotten lighter. It has alcohol in it so it is drying. Make sure you moisturize after. Can't beat the price for what it does.
Working to heal dry red spots

I tried this because I have/had two red peeling spots from car window sun damage on my face that no moisturizer was able to help and I figured why not? I use it at night because it does pill up under makeup and I cant get away without makeup. I have been using this for about 3 weeks and my two red spots are no longer peeling and the redness is greatly reduced. I let it sink in and then top off with one of my many moisturizers.

This is the first vitamin C product I have ever used, and after some research, I decided to combine it with a niacinamide serum and apply them both in the morning to clean skin, then follow up with the Tula sunscreen. I have noticed improvement in my dark spots from cystic acne which is great. However. This cannot be worn under makeup. I have tried multiple things to prevent the severe pilling that occurs but nothing has helped. I tried no serum underneath, I tried two different serums underneath, I tried applying less, letting each layer dry, mixing the products (which made pilling worse), applying to damp ski, applying to dry skin, nothing helps. And this happens even on days I am not wearing sunscreen. I notice it pill under my mask from friction or if i rub my face. Very frustrating. I wanted to like this because it works, but if you ever want to put makeup over your skincare or even sunscreen (which you should because vitamin C can make you photosensitive) you need to find a different product.

I returned mine. It smelled way too (and I mean WAY, like unbearably) metallic-y. I had to wash it off. Maybe a younger me would have dealt with it, but I know now that vitamin c doesn't have to oxidize upon opening. Other options exist!
Use it the right way

1st store it in the fridge as it won't yellow and will keep it potent. If you have flare ups like pimples or bumps, then back off using for a week and then start again. Some may need to work up gradually for daily use. Be patient. This product works. If your skin feels sunburnt don't use this product until that clears up.

This is the first vitamin c I have tried. I chose it because Cerave is a product I trust. I haven't noticed any changes in my skin, but I've only been using it for a few weeks. I will probably not repurchase this product and will try another brand next time.
Never buying this product again

Bumps on my forehead
Liz from Columbus, OH
I've used other cerave products in the past and had good results, but this one leaves little bumps on my forehead. Wouldn't recommend for sensitive skin.
Not for me
User from California
Burnt my skin after an hour of applying. Also dried it to where it was peeling in splotches. I have pretty tolerable skin so this is new for me. My face is still burning after applying aloe
Wasn't for me.

This made me breakout horribly. I thought maybe I was just 'purging', continued using for about a month and was still breaking out horribly. This did make my face feel super soft, just didn't work for me.
So far so good!

Went in looking for something to help repair my skins moisture barrier and the employee suggested this vitamin c serum. It's gentle for my sensitive skin and a great price! It makes my skin so soft and smooth.
Ash from Yuba City
I love this brand with all my heart, but this one was a huge miss for me. The cap was either screwed on too tightly or just too loose and product would be caked around the bottom each time I pulled it from the drawer. I'm also not happy that pure alcohol is so high on the ingredients list.
No harm so no foul, but won't buy again

I'm a newbie to skincare and wanted to try adding vitamin C to my routine. For the first month I was doing it in the evening, but I switched over to doing it in the morning after doing some reading. I noticed it starting to change color about 10 days after opening the product. Two months after opening it, it's yellow. I have no idea if the efficacy was impacted, because I've never been able to tell if it's actually doing anything. However, I don't think it caused me to break out or experience dry skin or irritation, so I can't be too mad at it. Definitely will not be re-buying again though. Like other reviewers mentioned, this stuff pills like crazy under makeup, especially if you apply any products with your fingers, so in that regard it's probably less of an annoyance to use at night.
Makes my skin feel smooth! Did have a minor breakout

Enjoyed the product, but had a minor breakout tho ? Love the price more than the extra expensive stuff
Not worth the money

I bought this with on sale, as soon as i opened it it had already oxidized, it works for some pigmentation but it makes my skincare and make up pills on my face. I would suggest buying the ordinary or the only list before buying this.
Brit from Louisville, KY
Very hydrating and no scent. I haven't used it long enough to observe any dark spot improvements, but I will keep using it for the hydration. I have dry and sensitive skin.
Broke Me Out
Layla from Aurora, CO
I love cerave so I was very disappointed when I used this product and it cause me to break out so much on my cheeks and chin. I have tiny little bumps as well as a few whiteheads, and have never in my life broken out like this. I was sad that it didn't work because I was looking for a good vitamin c serum. Just make sure to patch test it before use, maybe it just isn't a good fit for my skin.

This was my first try at Vitamin C Serum and I was disappointed. I love Cerave products but this oxidized super fast. Wouldn't recommend and won't buy again.

Good Effects, Gross Smell
Ryan from Springfield, MO.
I like the light-proof packaging, lightweight texture, and skin-brightening effects. However, it has an off-putting smell that gets worse as the product gets older.
LGKW from Brockton MA
I like that it has both vitamin C and hyaluronic acid. Saves money in that I don't have to buy two separate products.
