Most Helpful Positive Review Highly Versatile! Originally I purchased this in Constructavist to be a strong base colour for my darker shadows and it worked beautifully. It wasn't till I tried the shade Painterly, however, that the product's full potential was revealed. I now use that shade as my only eyelid primer. It creates a smooth base that hides any unwanted pigmentation or imperfections and helps all eyeshadow stick and be more vibrant. It works better than other eyelid primers and even has a third effect as a under-eye concealer (not it's best function mind you, but in a pinch it gets the job done).
Most Helpful Critical Review Colors, texture coverage vary I purchased three of these a couple of weeks ago after having previously tried some colors. Overall here is the review of each color I have:
Painterly- Good basic eye base or for those days when you want bare but not red eyelids. It has no sparkle but doesn't give a matte dry look. Works well under other powder eyeshadow as it is a true neutral.
Constructivist- Great brown color that goes on beautifully with a finger tip and less so with a brush. This is the color that caused me to experiment with these things instead of powder eyeshadow. Good Brown, not red, not muddy. With sheen but not annoyingly sparkly
Vintage Selection- Kind of reminds me of All that Glitters; this paint pot has a sheer finish with gleam, not sparkles. I use this on its own, or as the base with a layer of anything else. I like this, the color is more Champagne, but not too pink or yellow- once again right in the middle.
Frozen Violet- While I like the color is is so sparkly someone that sees me everyday commented on it. The color is a medium, sheer plum, but once again, it has those sparkles that you cannot seem to get off your face everywhere you touch.
I ordered all of these (except the Constructivist- which I guess was limited series) off the MAC Pro website. So I did take a risk, but oh well. I would say NONE of the colors have a coverage that is like a matte- say Blanc Type, but if you are a natural girl they should work okay for you and of course you can layer. Just beware these do set fairly quickly. I find a fingertip application gives the nicest result. The synthetic brushes I have for some reason I hold on to the color and it applies unevenly.
Good Luck!
Also, I want to say I have been purchasing MAC since they first came to the US with Nordstrom (1989).

I've always heard good things about mac paint pots, but if did not work out for me at all. My eyelids are deep-set and usually oily, and this did nothing to make my eyeshadow last. I've used good quality eyeshadows from pat mcgrath and limecrime with it and the shadow totally melts off my crease after 4-5 hrs. This happened multiple times even when my skin/eyelids weren't that oily. It's also way too thick in my opinion. I'd recommend $7 etude house eye primer over this any day since my eyeshadow remains perfect ALL DAY with that primer. Or even urban decay which is basically the same price as mac paint pot.

I like that it makes my shadow pop and it doesn't crease halfway through my work day. It just has a really chemically smell to it. It bought another one in a different shade that does Not smell like this. May be I just got a bad one....

Provides a good base for shadow and you can definitely cut a crease with it. It definitely makes your eyeshadow last longer.

I bought this specifically to use as an eyeshadow primer/base. This did not disappoint! It covers veins and dark circles perfectly and makes my eyeshadow last all day. I would definitely recommend!

Syl from AZ
I loveeeeeee this product as an eyeshadow base. I saw one of my favorite YouTubers recommend it, so I decided to try it. I was not disappointed. It lasted my 10-hour shift without creasing, smudging or moving around. I will definitely repurchase.
Too Thick & difficult to smudge onto eyelid 1
BusyMellybee from Charlotte, NC
As an eyeshadow base this was too thick to apply comfortably. I had to smudge roughly across the lid and it felt too thick (couldn't even get to a point of eyeshadow application) No thank you

BEST! 5
Toria77 from California
I love this as a lid primer and a shadow. I have very crepe-ey lids and this turns them in a very good canvas. I apply with a firm brush and it stays on for hours.
Great coverage 4
Cinnamon from Lawrenceburg, KY
I use this as a base shadow. Covers well and doesn't crease which was what I was looking for. Goes on smoothly, just enough color to provide enough base.
Great for oily eye lids 5
Yang from Tulsa
I have oily eye lids. My eye lids are oily and my eyeshadows and eyeliner always smudge after a few hours. This keep my eyeshadows and eyeliner smudge free. I even tested the same eye products without the primer and it smudged. When I use this, it's smudge free. I definitely recommend this product.
This has become my favorite 5

I've been looking for cream eyeshadow and this is my first time using paint pot. I love how creamy and easy it is to apply and it gives a natural look on me. This is great if I'm just wanting something simple or I can use it underneath my shadows if I'm wanting more. I've already purchased another color.
Lovely product 5

Lovely and smooth going on. I didn't realize it wasn't for use with a brush, at first, but it's nice anyway.

I use this to even out my eyelid and help to keep my eyeliners on all day.
Miss information 2
AyyTayy21 from Grand Blanc, MI
So the product itself is defiantly unique.. but I'm not sure how to apply to eyelid and they didn't offer any assistance in finding such. I use my finger now and it sort of cakes on... or doesn't apply at all. No happy medium. Doesn't last all day either but is a nice base for other shadows
Unbelievably amazing!!!! 5
jeger from Newport, PA
I was skeptical....and now I am amazed. This really does hold your eye shadow. I have hooded eyes and my eye shadow never lasts, always creases within an hour. But, with this paint pot product, my eye shadow doesn't not crease!
Love Paint Pot 5
René in the South from Alabama
I have used the paint pots for at least 10 years, I love this color too! Great base color, I use this to set my shadow b/c it lasts all day and I also use as my highlight shadow color. Easy to apply, creamy and smooth. Surprised when I read some of the other reviews this didn't receive 5 stars across the board. Please do not discontinue this product or color. That's my biggest complaint abt MAC. Still waiting for FRENZY lip color to come back!
Look no more 5
Leslieniqole from Alamogordo nm
This keeps eyeshadow in place all day. NO lid crease whatsoever and best of all, a little goes a long way. I use it also to help cover blemishes before I put on foundation. Also helps with my waterline and keeps liner from running as much.
Lipstick doesn't bleed into lines now! 5
Golden from Salt Lake City
I dabbed around my lips and on my eye lids and my makeup doesn't move into fine lines any more. This stuff is awesome!
Paint pots 5
Kristen from Sumter, SC
I love the paint pots! They are great to use alone or under eyeshadow. I am wondering what happened to all the other colors though? I have been watching some youtube videos and they have several colors that are not listed. Did MAC just do away with some colors?
The best -- eyeshadow and primer in one! 5
Manaism from CO
I use the color Painterly. It works with every eyeshadow I own. I especially love it because I can also wear it alone on those "no makeup" days.
