I recently bought this shampoo from Ulta and it listed the Pyrithione Zinc at 1.5%. The shampoo has worked wonders for my scalp in the last few days so I went to buy a large size bottle and I see that some bottles list the Pyrithione Zinc as 1% while others say 1.5%. Has the strength of the active ingredient been decreased in newer bottles? And if so, why would you do that!?
- Asked by L
- Official Answer By Nioxin - Brand EngageIt was relaunched this year with 1% Pyrithione Zinc as opposed to 2% in the previous formula. Was this answer helpful to you

Someone recently asked if you changed the formula (see previous Q&A below). You responded "no, only the packaging about 2 years ago." But you absolutely did change it - along WITH the new packaging. The list of ingredients literally changed, removing some of the minerals, adding a different thickener, moving sodium chloride up to near top of the list. Even the medication content increased by 50%. So, I'll ask the same question & maybe the second time will be the charm: Did you change the formula?
- Asked by Rome
- Official Answer By Nioxin - Brand EngagePer the Brand Manager- We made a regulatory change from 2% of ZPT to 1%. We had to adjust the formula because the regulation changed So it has less ZPT, which is the Pyrithione Zinc. We, as a company, have no control over the regulation of the % of this ingredient that can be used in OTC products. We recommend the addition of the Purifying Exfoliator to help control seborrheic dermatitis. Was this answer helpful to you

The Nioxin MEDICATED Shampoo is it safe to use on color treated hair? I have flakes and itchy scalp but I color my hair often..I want to check if the Medicated Shampoo will strip my color??
- Asked by Patricia
- Official Answer By Nioxin - Brand EngageIt is not marketed as a color safe shampoo, however it is gentle on color treated hair. You may want to start with the scalp recovery soothing serum and see if that works for you. It is applied directly to the scalp 1-4 times a day as needed and many people love this product with the shampoo and conditioner or as a stand alone product. Was this answer helpful to you

This product really works
Two to three years ago I started having seasonal itchy dry scalp problems. Every winter as the air would start to get dry, the problem would worsen and become almost unbearable by January and February. My scalp was so itchy that it would become inflamed and even get small scabs in some places from m...

I have very sensitive scalp. This product helped me a lot!
The formula HAS changed.
This new nioxin formula, contrary to what the bottle says, HAS changed. It was the ONLY thing that ever worked for my severe dry scalp and scalp psoriasis and now it hardly does anything. Im so, so disappointed in this product and will not be repurchasing.

I've used the shampoo before, and it works very well if you have a dandruff or scalp problems. I haven't tried the new bottle again. They did change the bottle. Hopefully they didn't change the formula of the shampoo.
The only thing that worked
Ive struggles with psoriasis for 4 years and have tried everything. Nothing has helped until i started using this. I will say there are all still flakes on my head but it's totally manageable. I tend to use the conditioner on my scalp and then use a traditional conditioner on my ends since it doesnt make my hair as silky as i prefer.
