Straddles the line between designer mass appeal and niche
I received this product in exchange for a review, and it took a few wears for me to decide my overall opinion. Final verdict is that this does a good job of straddling the line between niche/designer and puts a bit of depth and a quality bump to a familiar scent profile. When I first sprayed this scent it smelled very similar to my memory of Azzaro Chrome (I haven't tried that in a decade so take that comparison with a grain of salt), seeming very metallic. While not a terrible scent, I'm glad the dry down after a few minutes is more complex and less synthetic given this price point. Once you get the dry down much of the metallic scent remains, but you can distinguish the black pepper and thyme as the root of the sensation vs. it smelling entirely synthetic and superficial. Even at this stage you can smell the aromatic background scent from the clary sage and geranium behind a strong "clean" or "fresh" scent profile. That said the smell even with 1 spray is very strong for the first 30 minutes and feels a bit more synthetic than some of the more recent EDPs I've smelled from brands like Givenchy or Prada. After about an hour the black pepper and thyme opening begin to wear off on me, leaving the scent strength a bit more tolerable (personal preference as someone who only ever uses 1 spray of a cologne and for stronger scents won't spray directly on the skin). I'd describe the remaining scent as a clean aromatic scent, but not very green. Three hours in at least 60-70% of the potency had worn off to the point where I had to bring my wrist (where I'd sprayed it) up to my nose to smell the scent and while the fresh/cleanness/pepper was still present it was more balanced with the aromatics making the smell my favorite portion of the wear. This lasts potency lasted for a few hours before fading away fully without additional changes to the scent. As with any scent I recommend giving this a test run and allowing time for at least a dry down before forming your opinion.
