There are serious issues with the spring that allows you to open and close the iron to curl. It's like the spring gets too hot, softens, and ends up stuck and the iron won't close all the way to secure the hair. I use the tool the way it is intended. Broke both times!
After purchasing my first one, the clamp got stuck open so I returned it, only to have the new one do the same thing 3 months later. It also pulls your hair at the end of the barrel.

I did a lot of research and decided on the Bio Ionic after a hairdresser used it when styling my hair. The longer barrel is a godsend and cuts down the time my hair is on the heat, which will decrease damage (I hope). I love the heat settings they've chosen and how light the iron is. I ended up getting both the 1 inch and the 1 and 1/4.
