I have super thick, frizzy, natural curly hair. I used to own a babyliss. The day I received I wash dried and sat down on my couch (yess I was tired and being lazy haha) to straighten my hair. My hair came out super straight for me not in front of a mirror. I Usually straighten my hair at night and then redo in the morning In order for it to be straight and frizz free. With this iron I done my hair that night before bed and only had to touch up in the morning! Completely Amazed!!!
When my Sedu Revolution (which Ulta no longer carries) died, I spent a lot of time comparing flat iron reviews on the Ulta website. Based on the reviews, plus hearing for years how wonderful Chis were, I went with the Chi Lava Ceramic. It's advertised that you can use it at lower temperatures than you'd normally use when using a flat iron. I did not find this to be the case AT ALL. My hair is wavy & thin on top. Because it's thin, I try to use a low temperature when straightening. With the Sedu I'd set the temperature to around 300F & it would straighten my hair. Tried the same temp with the Chi Lava. All it did was flatten my hair, not straighten it. Tried bumping up the temperature to see if that would help. Tried it on several temperatures & went all the way up to 400F. All it did was leave my hair flat. I get that it's a flat iron, so it might leave hair flat. What I DON'T expect is for a flat iron to not straighten my hair. I tried multiple passes on a small section of hair (at high temps I don't want to fry my hair, especially since it's so thin), but my hair was still wavy. It's going back. Super disappointed. Now I'll have to wait for another 20% coupon so I can afford a new flat iron :(

it worked fine to straighten my hair, but not any better than the really cheap ones I've tried. I bought this intending to frequently use it for adding waves to my hair.... not good for that. it pinches my hair a ton and the hinge seems to be loosening from using it for adding waves, which is making the pinching increasingly worse. the plates have lateral movement, if that makes sense. I've had it for maybe 18 months with light to moderate usage.

I purchased this flat iron exactly 21 days ago and it no longer works. This morning I was straightening my hair and it heard a pop. It scared the you know what out of me thinking it was going to go up in flames. I looked at the flat iron and it had died. I tried turning it back on again and nothing. I unplugged and plugged it back in and nothing. I plugged in my spare flat iron and it worked, so it's not the plug. Thankfully it's within 30 days of purchasing so it'll be going back to the store ASAP.
For the few days it did work, it was an OK flat iron. Nothing I'd write home about but I expected a little more for the money.

Heats up in a matter of seconds and makes my hair feel smooth and makes it look shiny with no frizz!

It does a decent job of straightening, but it pulled like crazy when I tried to do waves. There was also no extra shine or anything. I just felt like it wasn't worth the price and returned it.

I love this product. It's easy to use and heats up quickly.

i bought this cause I seen it was highly rated but it was okay. I have thick and somewhat wavy hair but it didn't work for me. I section out my hair in small sections and I had to go over it quite a bit just to see a little bit of straightness in my hair. I only did a quarter of my hair and just gave up. I've owned other irons and even cheaper irons work a lot better than this. I tried to love it but I am just going to return it.

Best straightener I've ever owned! Worth every penny

I've never been a CHI fan. I always thought their products were overhyped. Now, I not only own a CHI hair dryer, but just purchased this flat iron based on the stellar reviews. I'm very impressed so far. I went with the 1" even though my old Paul Mitchell was 1.5" and am happy with the purchase. My hair is much smoother and softer, it heats up super quick, and the only caveat I have is that I keep hitting the arrow up/down buttons when straightening my hair (but that's totally a "me" problem).

I love this flat iron! I used to have the purple chi air and decided after 5 years, it was time for an upgrade. this flat iron leave my hair so sleek and soft to the touch. Best of all? my hair is not too hot to touch after running it through the plates! make sure you pair it with your favorite heat protector.

I am totally impressed by this flat iron. I have always loved CHI straighteners but this is a whole new level of amazing. I have long thick wavy hair and I set the heat to 360 degrees since I read 400 or above can really damage your hair. It heated up to 360 in about 30 sec and was ready to use. The plates are smoother than my other CHI and just glide through my hair. I was done in about 2-3 minutes and my hair has never looked so shiny!! I've always used heat protection spray but the shine was all from this straightener. My hair feels so soft and healthy. I also love the auto shut off feature and it's the main reason I bought this one in the first place because I forget if I unplugged my straightener or not. Only downside to this is the plug doesn't have surge protection on it, so don't straighten your hair while barefoot on a wet floor or around water. Thankfully my husband installed outlets in our bathroom that have the surge protection buttons on them. Just something to be aware of. Otherwise, this hair tool is a no brainer. Best straightener I've owned so far!

This flat iron gets hot straightens hair fast but it created too much frizz for my fine hair and did not create shine I felt that it actually dried my hair, you can get really close to the root, it might work for someone with thicker hair.

Admittedly I've only ever had pretty low-budget irons before. Decided to treat myself to this for Christmas and I'm so glad I did. It heats up extremely fast, the plates don't stick to or pull my hair (an issue I've had at the stylist when she uses an ionizing straightener), and one to two passes can get my hair stick straight even at a low temp. I have very fine hair but a lot of it and I can easily straighten my entire head in twenty minutes or so at 350. I do think the low temperature is helping my hair stay healthier as after 2 months of biweekly use I feel like I have less breakage and split ends than I did with my old iron. Overall I would definitely recommend this straightener!

Tried this iron for the first time today and it left my hair super straight with no frizz! I used to have an original CHI that I used for years and decided to upgrade and Im so glad I did! I would buy again and recommend to anyone in need of a new straightener!

I love this straightener. I have long, thick, highlighted wavy hair that doesn't like being told what to do. This flat iron straightens it perfectly with zero frizz and great shine. it glides easily with no snagging. This is my favorite iron and I've used a LOT. I've used several titanium irons and this ceramic one is better than any of them.

I wanted something that straightened my hair that wouldn't damage. After years of hearing the hype, I took a chance and purchased this beauty. It makes my hair sleek and shiny!

I have long, thick, curly/ frizzy hair and this is the best straightener I have ever used and I've used a lot! I have always used chi but I will never use anything other than this chi again! Cut the time in half that it usually takes and this makes it REALLY straight AND NO FRIZZ!
BS3718 from Lubbock, TX
Really great straightner gets my thick and long hair the straightest it's ever been. I don't need to touch up my hair for a few days but if I do it is because my hair got wet or something other than that I straighten my hair and it lasts being straight for days! One really big down fall for me is the fact that my hair smells like really burnt hair it's a horrible smell and I can't get rid of it for what seems like forever even after I wash and put all kinds of smell good sprays.
Gabi from Chandler, AZ
I have chemically treated biracial hair that is thick and I have a lot! Not a problem for this straightener. It leaves my hair soft and shiny without the burnt smell! The fact that it doesn't need to be on high heat to straighten makes it worth every cent.

I don't get as much sleek and shine with anything else. And any bad reviews are haters or they don't know how to properly style hair. I use mine on my friends cause they ask me. It works amazing on all hair types. It's worth the money.

Quality! I have long thick hair and this made my hair so smooth and silky and so much more manageable. I can't say enough good things about this straightener. Worth every $$$.
