My son is a 15 yo male with inflammatory acne—more concentrated on the temples/forehead. He is using this wash daily. The acne seems to be worsening. Any other suggestions for a skin care routine that may help?
- Asked by Rene
- Official Answer By Dermalogica US - Brand EngageHello, thank you for contacting Dermalogica. For teenagers, we recommend a Clear Start routine. Cleanse: Start with the Breakout Clearing Foaming Wash to deep clean and purify your skin. Use it morning and night. Exfoliate: Use the Breakout Clearing Liquid Peel 1-2 times per week in the evening after cleansing. Apply a generous amount all over your face and neck, leave it on for 7-10 minutes, and then rinse. Target Treatment: Apply the Breakout Clearing Booster directly to blemishes or breakout areas, or use it as a thin layer all over the face after toner and before moisturizer. Moisturize: Skin Soothing Hydrating Lotion is a lightweight moisturizer to help soothe discomfort and hydrate areas that feel dry, making it suitable for younger, breakout-prone skin. This routine is designed to help clear breakouts and maintain healthy-looking skin. Best Wishes, The Dermalogica TeamWas this answer helpful to you

Great product if used as instructed
I've had breakouts since middle school. As I got older, the breakouts changed, but I would get them. After tying a number of other products, I was introduced to Dermalogica. This was before the acne line was released. I was told that if I used the products in the order that I was told, it would work...

Not effective!
I've been using this product religiously now for over a month and I've seen my acne only increasing. Due to the great reputation of this company, along with the recommendation of my dermatologist, I thought I would give it a try, in spite of the expense of the product. I have naturally oily skin and...

I'm on my second bottle of this
This is absolutely worth the price! I have dry skin, rosacea and acne. This helps a lot with keeping my skin clear, but my face never feels tight or dried out from it. It seems to help soothe the rosacea a little too. Do use caution around the eyes, it has a light menthol fragrance and feel which can make your eyes burn a little if you get it too close.
Does work but don't use right before a big event
I've been using this face wash for over a month now and I have to say that my face is clearer and smoother than it's ever been. BUT! I experienced some MAJOR purging. my acne tends to be hard bumps under the skin and with that being said, the first time I used this, I had hard filliments coming out of my pores. I have a medium sized scar on my face and the pores around that area are enlarged. I've taken a black head tool to that area, pore strips, black head masks, and nothing worked until this cleanser on the first day! very gross but also very satisfying. I was purging in my typical acne prone areas, but the "pimples" would disappear within a day or immediately pop and be gone. hence the purging and not actually breaking me out. it took about 3 weeks for the purging to stop. l used some extra rounds of the Ordinary's 30% acid peel mask followed by a clay mask to help assist the purging effects. I've had some bad acne most of my life and even after turning 30, that hasn't changed for me. this cleanser has really transformed my skin. I do use a vitamin c serum during the day and a retinol at night and this cleanser does not sensitize my face before going in with my actives. I use it morning and night. I cannot say how this removes makeup as I use an oil cleanser to remove makeup and then this cleanser afterwards. the cleanser does have menthol in it. my skin is usually irritated with menthol products, but this one does not irritate my skin at all. if you are sensitive to smells, it does have a mild medicinal menthol scent but I don't find that it lingers or bothers my scenes. If you have the time and social calendar to give it a few weeks to work it's magic, then I would give it a try!
Not sure yet
Ive been using this for 3 weeks. My face is alot worse and burning. Im not sure if this is purging or not. Im stuck on to keep trying it or give up.
Cleared me and my daughter's skin
I have very sensative skin, and redness around my nose amd cheeks, but after using this for a week, my redness went away. Nothing worked for me, but after using this product, I was stunned. Now my daughter has very bad acne. We have tried so manyndodferent brands on her. She started using this, and at first, she broke out a little more. But, I told her to give it awhile before she tosses it out. Glad I did, because her face cleared up. It took her a month for her entire face to clear, but she wqs consistant with washing it day and night, also minimal makeup wear. Im so glad we found a formula that dinally works. We have tried so mamy brands, even top brands, and this is the winner!
Saved my skin

UserMy acne ended up getting so bad. I had it as a teenager, and then it went away. Around the age of 25, it came back full force. I was so insecure, and tried so many face washes. I finally decided to spend the extra money on a good brand after doing a lot of research. AND THIS PRODUCT SAVED MY SKIN. I washed my face religiously every morning when I woke, and every evening before bed. At first, it seemed as though my acne was getting so much worse. But I was persistent. I started to get actually puss filled zits. But I started to pay attention to where they were forming, and I realized they were coming from my small white heads that were reluctant to go away before. I had some of them for months. Maybe even a year. And this product forced the sebum to the surface, causing those zits. Once they came to the surface and popped, they never came back. I am sooooo thankful I didn't stop when I first believed it was getting worse. It looked worse, BUT IT WAS ACTUALLY GETTING BETTER. Those stubborn white heads finally went away. I've heard people say that kind of skin purging only last a few weeks, but mine personally lasted about 6 months until almost all of the impossible white heads finally disappeared. I also use their multi active toner. Seriously a life saver. If your skin gets worse at first, DONT GIVE UP. Because i am soooo grateful that I didn't and that I stuck it through
