Most Helpful Positive Review I loved this iron more than life. I owned my Chi for over ten years. Being nearly 20 years old now, and having it given to me when I was 8, I can say that I put this iron through the ringer. I have frizzy, curly hair that would wear out hair ties and snap them after one use. Over the years it has thinned a bit and swimming has fried the intense curl out a little, but I'm still snapping hair ties and it did the job all the same. In the hands of my aunt, the professional hairdresser who chose it for me, it took roughly fifteen to twenty minutes to cover my entire head of hair, that was at the time about three feet long. In my hands it took a while longer, but once I got the hang of of it, I never took longer than 20 minutes either. Over the many years, I've had my hair above my shoulders, at my shoulders, to mid back, lower back, but mostly it has been past my butt. Alwasy being tall and having hair I could sit on for most of my life, I can safely say that this iron took on a LOT of hair over the years. I can also say that this iron works well with all different lengths of hair. I'm embarrassed to say that it even lasted through accidentally being left on ALL day long about three times within the last year of its life. This iron worked well for me up until it died when I believe the swivel cord eventually wore out, seeing as the power would turn on and off as I moved it. The plates never scratched, the hinge never lost stability, and the heat never waned. (If it did it was so little I, who knew it very well, did not notice.) It held up being lugged around in suitcases, backpacks, and tote bags the same as it did when it lived (and fell off of) my bathroom counter.
Most Helpful Critical Review I am returning it to the store.. I bought a CHI ceramic hairstyling iron Original in the black box on September 26, 2006 from my hair salon. I had it till it just broke and would not turn on anymore, which was un-till August 11, 2013. I loved it because it would keep my hair and my daughters hair nice, silky and smooth looking. I have course hair that always looks frizzy if I don't use my CHI. I contemplated on buying a new one because they are so expensive and I have 4 children who need other things. My daughter told me she just absolutely had to have another one. Even though I loved the product, I was just apprehensive about spending the money. Needless to say I went to buy another one from the local Beauty Supply. It is supposedly the exact same one. I looked at the boxes to make sure. Although, they are not the same quality! The new one I bought on August 21,2013. It makes my hair frizzier, not silky smooth, and takes a long time to heat up, not to mention I have to run the iron through my hair a lot more times before it even remotely gets a little straighter. Also the outside of the Chi Flat Iron gets very hot to the touch. I asked my daughter about this and she said the same thing. She exclaimed we needed to take it back and get another brand. I am very disappointed in the quality of your chi. Is this something new you all have made. The quality of the old one compared to the new one is just not the same! The only reason why I bought a new one was because of my original experience. I used to recommend to friends that they needed to get one because it was awesome! But now I would never think on recommending your product. I am writing this letter just to inform you of this information. Over the years sometimes manufacturers make things cheaper and this to me is an example of it.

I used to think that metal plates + heat = straightener. The brand didn't matter. I got my 1st Chi seven or eight years ago and that all changed. With other straighteners..even those from the beauty supply stores..I have to run it over my wavy hair multiple times to get it straight. With Chi, it's one pass and done. I don't know what makes Chi different but it is. Maybe it has to do with heat distribution. I don't really even care. I just know that it works. My hair is healthy despite daily use (Chi Iron Guard is great btw) and I straighten my hair in one-third of the time. If you have waves or curls, invest in a good straightener to keep your hair healthy and to save time. The "original" is a good price and worth every penny.
(My old Chi still works! Unfortunately, I didn't take care of it so there is a lot of baked on product on the plates. I've traveled with it, dropped it many times and who knows what my teen has done to it when she used it but it still works. Keep your plates clean and it will last many years.)
I'll never buy a cheap flatiron again!!!! 5

I never realized how bad the cheap flatirons were until I used my first Chi!!!! It'll never not use a Chi!!!!

It does get the job done, yet is smells like something is burning while plugged in, and very easily leaves dent in my hair from the heat.

They don't make 'em the way they used to! 1

Bought this in February 2020 since my previous CHI I owned for 10+ years bit the dust. Bought the same size/model/brand and it works but not nearly as well as it's predecessor. I only use it to create waves and curls. It doesn't hold all day like it used to and it kinks if I hold it too tight. Hoping I can exchange it. Literally only used it maybe 10 times.
The flat iron is everything I wanted it to be. 5

I use the iron to curl and add the look of more volume. It works much better for me than my curling iron. The regular size is great for travel.
Worked once 1

Worked amazing in straightening my hair. However after one month and one use, it completely stopped heating up. It would still turn on and the light would turn on but no heat. I even tried leaving it on to warm up for an hour and still nothing
Love my hair after using this iron! 4

I have wavy to curly hair and it straightens my hair easily, without having to run it through my strands over and over. I've been loving my hair ever since I started using this iron. The only reason that I gave it 4 stars is because the cord is ridiculously long! Make it hard to manage it..
CHI straighteners are always the best 5

My first hair straightener I ever got in my life was a chi straightener. I got one back in like 2005, I was like 12. THIS SAME STRAIGHTENER will still work 15 years later. I've always kept it shoved back in the back of my bathroom cabinet as a plan b if my other straighteners fail. I got a Hot Tools straightener not too long ago. It lasted maybe a year and it barely heats up anymore, and if it does it takes A WHOLE HOUR to get up to 430°. I pull out my OG 15 year old CHI and this thing heats up like a champ everytime. It's older than some humans on this earth and it continues to be my fail safe. You can never go wrong with a CHI!
Definitely Not as Hot as the Original 3

I have the first CHI that came out, mine has a short in it. I replaced it and got the titanium, hated it. Ceramic works best for my hair. Then I purchased this one and it definitely does not heat as well as the first CHI line. A little disappointed but since I usually wear curls I'll hold onto it
Never again 1

I bought my mom this straightener for her birthday in May. A couple months later it stopped getting hot. But I was happy I was able to return it.

I love the original Chi. I've used one for years and I just had to purchase a new one. I use it every day and it works like charm on my thick and wavy hair. Great product.
I will never buy another brand 5

I wash hair every other day. The iron is so good I am able to use it every other day. Best iron ever, no cons.

I've had this straightener for 14-15 YEARS and it still works so, so amazing. I've dropped it more times than I can count and it stills heats up like a champ and does exactly what it needs without pulling my hairs out. Get it!!!

I do like to blow dry my hair straight before I straighten it to take away volume but even when I don't I blow dry it this straighter keeps my hair straight for a couple of days.
Awesome product 5

I use it to flat iron my short bob haircut. Works great and doesn't torch my hair like the Babyliss titanium flat iron.
Curled my hair nicely! 4
Denise from San Diego
The only complaint I have is that it's easy to touch hot spots on the tool. Otherwise, it makes such a nice curl.
Bad quality did not heat up enough, I do not recommend at al 1

Decent 3

Pretty decent straightener I preferred the Hot Tools straightener over this one and they are about the same price. I hardly used mine and it lasted for 4 years and now it will not turn on at all. Save your money.
